Game not recognising items in inventory after returning from China
« on: September 07, 2012, 12:54:12 AM »
Okay, I sent my fairy on a trip to Shang Simla to collect some rocks. I got back yesterday game time and went to make dinner. I noticed at that point that the opportunity I had to get 3 dragon fish didn't register as complete though I'd gotten 7 when I was in China, and also that fish and chips and sushi both would cost me 8 simoleans to make even though I have a lot of fish. After dinner I sent off all my ore to be smelted and analysed my space rocks and went to bed. When she woke up this morning and finished gardening I clicked on the gem cutter to get all her gems cut and the option is greyed out with a hover over text telling me I need gems in my inventory to use this item.

I've just quit and reloaded the game which didn't work, I guess next I'll try putting them in someone else's inventory, seeing if they register, then moving them back. However I would love to know if anyone's experienced this and might know a fix?

eta: moving them to another sim did not work, nor did resetting the sim who was holding them. if I collect more gems, those ones register, but still not the old ones. it seems I CAN use them directly out of inventory, which should work for the gems, but not to cook food using the fish or to hand in my dragon fish opportunity.

There has been a known glitch that fish don't make it through the traveling.  Any fish you caught in China would probably disappear from your inventory, unless this was repaired in the patch that came out with Supernatural.  Do you actually see the fish in your Sim's inventory when you click on that tab?

Oooooh, you're right. None of my fish survived, including the ones I already had :( Guess it's a good thing I didn't take the extra time to get 10 each of dragon fish and tancho koi like I was considering, but very annoying coz I wanted to stock a pond of them like I have in other games.

I guess that means I'm able to fully work around the glitch (unless it turns out the stores don't recognise me having the books I want to sell or the alchemy station thinks I don't have any ingredients, though it seems I am able to donate my insects by clicking on the science lab which is a good sign) by cutting gems straight from inventory but fixing it would still be nice if I can figure out how.

So, do you mean that you can click on the inventory tab and see all those things?  Or is the inventory completely empty when you look at it?

Yes I can see all of it (except the fish) but the gem cutter insisted the gems didn't exist when I clicked on it, even when I gave them to another controlled sim.

I managed to get around it by clicking on the gems themselves to get an option to cut them with the machine then sold them all.

I did come up with an idea to legitimately work around the fish problem for longer challenges: send your cat/s fishing. Once you have two of what you want, put them in aquariums to breed until you have 10, then stock a pond with them.

If you aren't in a challenge just go to buydebug and get the China fish spawners, put them in a lake or pond and fish to your hearts content.  Otherwise, it's as Chuckels said.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
