Homeless Sims
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:11:28 PM »
Again I hope this is placed right  :-X

I have just discovered today there are a ton of homeless sims in each town.

Why this is I have no idea.. It seems a bit silly to me and aside from the fact that it is probably adding to the pathing problems , and wondering how it is that they eat aside from stealing..

I was thinking in each town I could make a community lot with beds and restrooms and cribs ect..
But...

Is there a way to make the fridge free? I guess all quick meals are free..The drinks from the bar seem free, the cappuccino seems free.  How would I feed them in this new .. center?
Thanks!

It bothers me that there are homeless sims.. As in the case of having sims need to urinate I think EA has gone over the top in realism.. If I wanted that kind of realism I would walk outside!

Anyway..

Thanks for any helps..

The "homeless" sims are the pool from which the game draws the NPCs, the maids, newpaper delivery people, etc. There really isn't anything you can do for them. Even the Sims who actually live in houses don't eat or sleep unless you're paying attention to them. There are beds, showers, etc. at the fire station, but you'll never see any of the homeless sims there. It's kind of you to worry about them, but aside from asking them to join your household, there's not much you can do. And even then, the game would just generate more.

Homeless Sims aren't exactly homeless just so you know.   It just means that where they live isn't "in town."  These sims get all the rest they need unless you distract them all night and they eat just like everyone else in town.  They'll visit the gym, the diner, the bistro or "go home".   Sometimes these Sims will move into a vacant lot actually in town through story progression.   These Sims are not to be pitied in any way.  They just travel a little farther to come see you.   In fact what you're calling a homeless Sim is basically a Sim that according to the paper "moved away from the hustle & bustle."    If you want to make a community project,  a fridge provides free meals like cereal and ice cream.  Homeless Sims actually have money because most of them have jobs around town and that's why they're there to fill the voids that your game needs filling.   These are the people that are your co-workers, your paparazzi, mixologists, bouncers, consignment clerks, register attendees, tattoo artists, etc.   You see them in every game.  The word homeless is only used because this means if you chose to marry one, you guys would have to stay in your house because you can't get to theirs.

As for Sims needing to potty, my  brother in law is getting locally known for saying "everyone poops.  they wrote a book about it."

It looks like MarianT and Ricalynn answered from two different points of view.  Both are correct in their own way, so what we really need to know is who exactly are you referring to, SpiritedTreasure, when you say "homeless Sims."  Are you talking about the maids, repairmen, police, firemen who provide services?  Or are you talking about a different group of people.  Nobody in the Sims 3 is actually homeless.

I think she was referring to non-NPC characters that don't officially live in a home at the start of the game. Like Dorthy DeMayo, or Sunny Bakshi.

I discovered another type of homeless sim in China the other day.  I needed to complete the tournement and the next sim in line kept saying he was coming, but never turned up.  So, I went to edit town mode to see if I could find where he lived and guess what, he wasn't in any of the houses.  In the end, my game was ruined because he never arrived and so I could not complete the tornement which I had to do for one of the adventures.  I guess this was just a game glitch as I have completed the tournement several times before.
