Collection helper for ps3

I'm not sure if this topic has been entered before, but I'm having trouble working out the collection helper. I'm using the ps3 and playing sims 3 (not pets). I've brought the collection helper, but it will only allow me to place it on the ground around my house. I can't click on it once it's been placed and if I put it in my inventory, I can't find it when I'm out collecting because it's in the household. So my question is do I use it?

I have been out collecting with my child once before and random butterflies do pop up in his action list but when he tries to go there, he can't walk and they go away but always pop back up. I can't stand to see my child so frustrated by not being able to do his action list. Help!

When it's placed on your sims lot in build mode select the storage icon and store it, from the storage inventory choose to move it and it should move to your sims inventory. Once it's in your sims inventory you should have an option when clicking on one of your sims to set what to search for.
