I'm feeling a bit mystified by the gambling skill and how it works.  My Sim has been going to the casino for an hour or two most days for a couple of weeks.  He hasn't gained any skill points, even though he's spent much more time than I've ever seen it take to develop any other skill.  On the positive side, even though he has yet to gain any skill in gambling, he doesn't seem to need it as he wins every time.  I'm talking about the slot machines, not the blackjack table which I gave up on after reading from Ricalynn that the skill seemed to increase faster on the slots.  When he makes small wagers, he wins a little bit.  The last few times, now that he has a little more money to spare, I've been having him wager larger amounts.  Both times he's done that, he's won $5000 jackpots.  The slot machine really seems to like him.  I'm wondering if his Lucky trait could have anything to do with him always winning.

Btw Schipperke, your Sim should have a learning bar above his head, which goes up a little each time he plays. But maybe you already know this, since your last message was a while ago

I bought Lucky Palms last week and I am trying to place the casino. I can't figure out which community lot type to use in order to place it. Visitors Allowed isn't working, and I am using a 64x64 lot.

I've always used the lot specifically for the Casino on the other side of the mountains from the business center and stadium.  It was already a community lot so you shouldn't have had to change it's lot type.    Which lot are you trying to place it on?

It won't place on that lot either. That lot is marked Big Show Venue. I try to place a copy an no icons pop up for placeable lots anywhere.

Change the lot type to No Visitors Allowed and see if that makes a difference.  Did you have a big show venue there before or did you change it to that?

The casino was originally planned on the 60x60 lot on Casinoboulevard 150 (at least that's the Dutch streetname). I believe it is the only 60x60 lot.
The lot is located somewhat to the left of the business center. Across the road is the Loera household.
If you start the game the lot type is on Public/Community Lot (don't know the exact English name) & Choose Lot Type, but No Visitors Allowed like Ricalynn suggested should also work. Visitors Allowed also works by the way.

Edit: I just tried and you can also place it on a 64x64 lot, which makes sense 'cause you can always place smaller buildings on bigger lots. As long as you change the lot type first of course.

I finally found the right lot, but my casino STILL would not place!

So I did some troubleshooting. I opened a brand new game of Lucky Palms, and I was able to place the casino just fine. My old game was bugged somehow. So I am going to start a legacy Dreamer game in this new Lucky Palms game with casino intact.

I'll move my Leora Family with the twins over to Appaloosa Plains or Union Cove or somewhere interesting and play them elsewhere. I hate to lose them but I need to scrap that version of Lucky Palms. I wonder what happened.

Yes, I assumed it would be the same as all the other skills.  I haven't played that game recently, but the skill learning bar never showed up at all, and the gambling skill never showed in his skill journal either.  His lack of skill didn't seem to matter, as he routinely won big at the slot machine - one or more $5000 jackpots an evening, depending on how long he was there.

I know my Sim won 5,000 Simoleans the first day she used the slot machine. When she used the Blackjack table she won 6,000 Simoleans, she risked 10,000 Simoleans.  Why have a job, they can earn enough money with gambling, so unlike real life but I love it. My Sim has a bar above her head when she gambles, it isn't always there, but she's learning the skill.
