Inventing Bench Explosions

Hello! I just have a question about the inventing bench's explosions, do they damage any other sims/objects other than the sim who was on the bench? I've only had one explosion so far, and while it didn't damage anything except my sim, I also managed to pause right as the explosion was at it's largest and saw that it didn't hit anything else. The bench was also outside, does that have anything to do with it? Thank you!

I've had countless inventors exploding themselves with no damage to anything else.
