I had a similar problem last night.  Everything was all right until I went to save and quit and then the game just kind of froze and I got a box saying there was a saving error and it would not save.  That happened twice and then I just gave up and tried to quit the game and it just froze on a black screen.  I eventually just restarted my computer because it would not even force quit or anything.  I haven't tried playing yet today so I do not know if it will happen again.

Before just quitting the game, if you get an error (code 12?) during a "save and quit" trying doing a "save" first instead. If that takes, then you can just exit the game.

I used to have those issues, now I always save first, and then exit without saving (since I just saved!)

Yes that is what happened and what I ended up doing last night and it saved fine.  I have not had any problems other than that, thank goodness.  :)

For band gigs, I know they have to have a guitar, a keyboard, a bass and a drum set.  You may need to to put in buydebug crowd spots on the ground and a showtime stage in order for performers to also get gigs there.

For the band, I know they need those things; but, what is considered necessary for a performer. Do I have to put some stupid looking prop on the stage? or would just lights do?

I think I'm just not going to patch my game with this at all for now because of all the reports of crashes, freezing, and new bugs. But has anyone noticed any of the old bugs being fixed with this?
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

Ever since the new patch, I haven't been able to skip the video that appears when loading the game. The only way I've been able to skip it is by clicking a lot, then pressing the start button so I can go back to the desktop. But, it takes ages for the game to reappear again after I clicked it on the task bar (the bar on the bottom of the desktop for Windows 7).
Has anyone else had this bug?
Also, the game seems a little slow. Maybe that's just because my computer was suddenly slow before the new patch, who knows.  :-\

I'm not quite understanding what you mean.  If this is something you would like some help with, it would be a good idea to start a new topic on the Technical Help board.  Be sure to put a very specific subject line and describe the problem in detail.

I know exactly what you mean. I had this same issue - but it's not that you can't skip the game or it requires a lot of clicks, it's just that there is a little bit a lag time from when you click to when it skips the loading screen (it was about 5-6 seconds for me). I fixed this issue by cleaning out the cache files and such.

Here's a link to the guide for this site on how to do this and which files to delete:

I've also had this problem sinse patching the game. When it gets to the intro movie and I click to bypass it, it'll still play for up to 10 seconds before it skips it. And I clean my cache files every time I start the game.

Thank you Ellenser and grimsoul. I cleaned my cache files about a week ago, so it's sort of overdue. And thank you for telling me about the 6-10 second lag, I'll keep that in mind the next time I play the Sims.

I cannot seem to get my game to patch up to 1.36. Every time I open the launcher it says there is a new patch available, but even after installing multiple times, quitting the game, and restarting my laptop, the game version number at the bottom left of the screen never changes. The most recent expansion I have installed is Pets, but the little game icons at the bottom of the screen for games released after Pets are not showing up.

Opening the file (Applications > The Sims 3 > Right-Click > Show Package Contents > Contents > Info.plist) show the most recent patch installed to be 1.26.

S3Launcher.exe</string>
   <key>CiderBuild</key>
   <string>7040</string>
   <key>ClientBuild</key>
   <string>1.26.89.013001</string>

1.26 was released on October 17, 2011. Pets was released on October 18, 2011. I'm worried about trying to play my game without being able to install the rest of the patches because this means Pets HAS NOT been patched and will surely be filled with bugs.

Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

EDIT: I found Information on how to install patches manually on thesims3.com Mac Help forum. The Info.plist file now shows Version 1.36.

However... The Launcher still says Version 10.0.96.017001. Is that what it is supposed to say?

I'm a little confused about the whole showtime/LN thing - say, for example, I wanted MN8 in SS to also act as a dance club, after I added the professional bar would I change the lot type to Dance Club? Or keep it as Live Show Venue? Or doesn't it matter? I really want a proper selection of drinks in the venues in SS, but I'm not sure how to go about it!  :-\

Since this patch my photography is borked. In one file, I had taken 12 photos of landmarks, but it was only registering 7, and not completing the challenge. In a new file, I have taken eight total photos, (4 of which were nothing photos just to complete a wish) but somehow have captured twelve landmarks?!! Also I suspect, but have not not confirmed, that the appreciation for my paintings and photos may be affected too.

Wish they would fix the ghosts-driving-away glitch!

I downloaded this patch. It downloaded quicker than usual and was installed correctly and quickly.
But - after the install screen, that popped away and something regarding "dfc-gorilla" turned up and updated my game.

I Googled it and it seemed legitimate, but I've never seen this before. Is it just me?

I think it's just the patch installer. EA has used a similar patch installer since the original Sims 1 series. It was also used at the beginning of Sims 3 for a short time, if I remember correctly.
