Can't find a graphics card.
« on: August 20, 2012, 01:04:17 PM »
When I first installed The Sims 3 a note appeared in my game saying that my graphics card is not supported and there might be some side effects when playing. I continued playing with my low graphics for many months and I didn't have any actual problem with it. But now that I installed Pets the animals are deformed and kinda appear like ghosts. And I must say that I'm sick of that low quality of my graphics now! So I decided to buy a new and better gpu for my pc.

Well, as most of you know The Sims 3 requires a GPU with at least 128MB which supports Pixel Shader 2.0. I did a huge research trying to find a good card but the only thing I found was that all cards above 128MB support Pixel Shader 2. The thing is I can't find a card for my fairly old pc. The info what you might ask in order to be able to help me is the following(hopefully): my PC is a Dell Optiplex 320, system is Windows XP, it has a low-profile PCI Express x16 slot(where I suppose the GPU must be located) and other information that might be helpful: Intel Pentimum 4 CPU 3.07Ghz, 1,98GB RAM.

Okay if you know anything about video cards, computers and stuff I hope you'll help me out. I wouldn't like a really great card but anything good for my PC, The Sims 3 and money :P I'd like a sufficient card between 50-150 € if possible.

Thank you  ::)

A quick glance shows the Radeon HD 6670 (price comparison link) has decent performance and is around 80 to 85 Euros. Just be warned that the card can run hot if your case doesn't have adequate airflow.

The HD 7750 (same source) is another good low profile card. It runs between 105 and 120 Euros.

Note: I haven't purchased anything from these companies listed, so please research them online before ordering. :)

Hope this helps.
