My sim has gone crazy
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:15:20 PM »
I've been playing my current game for a few hours (maybe 30 -- i don't really know). Recently, one of my sims has started to delay doing things in his queue, and instead runs off to find another Sim, point and laugh at them. I don't really know what to make of this - he didn't always do that.

Also, at times I will send him to bed. He will get into bed, then immediately decide he's had enough sleep and get up. I can then send him back to bed and he sleeps through the night.

The pointing and laughing thing is getting to be very annoying. He wastes 20-60 minutes to run across the house, go up or down the stairs, just to point and laugh at someone.

Traits: Love the Outdoors, Over Emotional, Nurturing, Friendly, and Lucky. He's not inappropriate, insane, a light sleeper, or any trait that I think would cause these problems. And it's only started happening recently.

I am using a few of Nrass's mods. Saver, Error Trap, and OverWatch. Also using a thing I found on MTS from velocitygrass to eliminate the memory system which I hate.

I can post the save game somewhere if requested. I have all the EPs through Showtime and SPs through Katy Perry. I'm playing in Appaloosa Plains.

Thanks for any suggestions.

When you say you've been playing this current game for maybe 30 hours, do you mean 30 hours without exiting the game at all?

Also, I'm moving this over to the Miscellaneous Help board.  It's more about game play issues than game mechanics.

This might be a very stupid question, but... have you tried reseting your sim? Also, have you cleaned your cache files? That has helped me a few times. I think it helps more with technical issues than glitches or gameplay issues, but it's worth giving it a try I guess?

@Pam - 30 hours over the course of a couple weeks, not 30 hours non-stop.

@Frey - Yes, I have reset the sim. I just got a new laptop, so everything is clean. Full reinstall of everything with only the game save preserved.

I had to ask  ;D.

I used a lot of mods with TS2 but I have almost no experience with them in TS3, so I'm not sure, but it could be a mod thing. I've heard that Nraas' mods are very good and safe, but they could still cause minor glitches I guess. Do you have any custum content other than the mods?

I would try asking Nraas about this. You can do that here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/

I don't have any custom content. I was trying out Union Cove, but when I packed up my desktop and switched to my laptop, the game wouldn't save anymore. Something about a glitched Sim Gnubb set somewhere in town. I spent a couple hours trying to fix it and couldn't, so I went back to the game I had prior to moving towns.

I didn't notice his lunacy in Union Cove. Maybe a new game would help, but I don't really want to lose my progress. Maybe as a last resort.

I think the sleep glitch is related to the pointing and laughing glitch. If he goes to bed first, then the other one, he always wakes up. If the other one goes to bed first, then he sleeps fine. An odd behavioral reaction to his husband.

It could be one of the mods. I can't say for sure. Maybe I will go ask on the nraas forums later.

Now that I think about it, I had a weird issue with a bed once. It was not pointing and laughing, but my sim would wake up short after going to bed, stand beside the bed and do nothing. Then I would send him back to bed and he would sleep trough the night. I have no idea if it's the same bug so maybe it won't work for you, but I solved the issue buying a new bed. Apparently the old one was bugged somehow. You could give it a try if you haven't yet, it might work for you too  :)

Changing the bed didn't help.

I adopted a Baby, and my problems got worse. The baby won't sleep.

I was about to start over, but I tried setting up a new game in Union Cove and I don't think my computer is good enough to run it. It was taking over 3 minutes to save a game, and I just couldn't take that.

I decided to change my Sim's traits. The Sim who will sleep had Easily Impressed, so I replaced that with Disciplined. I changed the non-sleeper Sim too. I removed Friendly, Nurturing, and Over Emotional, and replaced them with Good, Good Sense of Humor, and Genius.

nraas Error Watch mod told me there was an error with my new baby's imaginary friend doll. I thought this might be the problem with the baby sleeping. So I used nraas Master Controller mod to reset everything in town.

Since then, I haven't had any problems with anyone sleeping or acting weird since, but it's only been a day.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Cool! I knew Master Controller could fix some issues but I didn't think of it. I will keep it in mind myself, could be a great help! Maybe I will install again, I removed it before installing Showtime and didn't download it again.

Frey: My game is having the same glitch/bug. I do not have any custom content or use any mods. So I think the problem is some new bug or glitch. In my game all of the sims in my household, visitors and many sims around town will run and point and laugh at her. I thought maybe it was a glitch related to her if she was a famous sim, like a rock star or something, but she is not. She is a surgeon and has never had any other career. Her spouse will do the same thing with going to bed as your sim. He starts off sleeping and when she comes to bed he will wake up and stand there and look at her until I que him to go back to sleep. The same happens if she is asleep first and he goes to bed after her. The other thing I noticed with this bug is that wherever she is all of the sims around her turn towards her and their thought bubbles have her picture in them. It is so annoying!

I have tried resetting her and the whole town several times. I have even exited the game and restarted my computer many times. I could go back to a earlier save file before this started to happen, but I have progressed so far with this sim family and decided to just try and ignore it. After I finish up with a few more of the wishes and skills in this sim family I plan to switch households and experiment with the glitch by visiting her and seeing what happens.

If anybody can figure this out or have any new ideas or suggestions, please share. Thanks!

Did you try deleting the bed? That work for me, but my sims didn't laugh or point at others or anything like that, they just wouldn't stay in bed. You could try anyway, I guess.

You could also try creating a new game file and seeing what happens there. I would say try the same world, and if it's bugged too, try another one. I've had Appaloosa Plains and Barnacle Bay get permanently bugged while the others are fine, so it could be just a world-specific thing I guess. If that works, you could try moving your family to a world that works.

You could also try a factory reset, as explained here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,7507.0.html. You can just move your save files to another folder in your computer and then put them back and see what happens, so that you don't lose your progress.

I am no computer expert whatsoever, but I've had pretty much every bug, glitch and issue you can think of in the game. So my advice is not very scientifical, it's more about what has helped me before. Anyways, I hope this will work. If not, maybe you should consider downloading Nraas Master Controller, specially if jdratlif says it worked. But you should do that responsibly, reading the stickies in the mod board  :) mods can be really helpful if used correctly, but they can also mess up things even more!

Yes I have tried replacing the bed and have even moved into new houses. The same thing happens. I haven't moved to a new town because I just started a fresh game in the town I'm in. I have never used mods and do not have enough knowledge about computers to trust myself to install or use them. I have Sons who are great with computers and will help me with the mods eventually, but for now I just play the game and ignore the glitch. Thanks for the reply and suggestions though :)

Your welcome! But what I mean is that you could create a new game file, without deleting the one you're playing, just to check if the bug is affecting the whole game or just that file. You do that by clicking on the + button in the main menu. Then select a town and load it, choose a random family and see what happens. You can even exit without saving afterwards, but it will help you make sure if it's the whole game that's bugged or not.

If you're okay with trying a mod, you might use nraas's Master Controller mod. You can then click on the computer or the city hall, then town, then reset everything. It will do a reset on every object in town.

This is what I think fixed me. Haven't had anymore pointing/laughing or sleeping problems. 3 hours without issues so far...
