Right now my husband has the highest level in the police career and my wife is working on her medical  she is at about level 8 she started off in the science field but has a high cooking level as well .. the children want to become a doctor (this is the youngest child their little girl who is their actual child) and the boy (was adopted so a few of his traits were already there) wants to became the evil something or other ... I do however plan on having my sims go for all jobs through out the generations since I am working on completing All of the karma stuff :)

Hmmm.... it depends on my overall goal for the game, I guess.

I usually have at least one household member that is Neat, one that is Handy, one with a Green Thumb, one that is a Natural Cook.  Sometimes I'll put all 4 of those traits on one Sim, and use that Sim as the stay-at-home household support Sim.

I also tend to lean more toward the non-career ways of earning money rather than have regular jobs.  It is helpful, though, to get some of the job reward/bonuses - like the cop car, special fridge, etc. - so sometimes I will run Sims through careers just for those rewards.

I've played with various jobs. presently, my sim is in the music career. she's reached Pop Icon. A sim week after reaching Rock star, I'll have her quit and go for "Hit movie composer". Then, she'll quit and go into acting and become a "Superstar Actor". Then she'll quit and become a director.
isn't that what happens normally? Rock star write music for movies, then they go into acting, then they decide to direct their own movies.
After that she'll raise a bunch of bratty kids and paint and write her memoirs!

I always choose jobs according to the sim's traits. Although, I have had lots of sims earn their money as painters, that's my old standby. lol

I play on Xbox 360, but with the Sims 3 and also Sims Pets, I chose the military and culinary careers.  This is because I want my sims to have that Kelvin Minus One fridge(for the chef LTW) and my miltary sim only ends up working one day a week when he reaches level 10.  With the raises, he makes alot of money, but the downside is because the hours are 7am-1am, he gets really tired!

Yes - and seriously stressed, too.

I had one who had just come home from the astronaut's workday, and I sent her right to bed - but she got up after a couple of hours because she was too stressed to sleep.  After some playtime, she was able to go back to bed, but it took me a couple of Sim days to straighten out her waking/sleeping cycles.

The ideal, of course, is to send the astronaut to work with all of the bars as full as possible.  It takes some trial and error to figure out exactly what time to put them to bed in order to accomplish that.

Yes, I even thought that giving my astronaut sim the workaholic trait would help.  But it really hasn't.  I noticed around 8pm he starts to fatigue.  And when he became an elder I just made him retire.

I usually change the job between Sims. For example, Daddy Sim works as an astronaut, Mommy Sim works as painters/Writers at home. Later on, i chose a completely different job for the kids, like Bussiness or Sport. :)

I tried to keep 'em varied.

Ive always liked the science career because I generally choose green thumb for my main sim and there are no requirements to be friends with your co-workers. I really like to perform experiments on my furniture so that each room gets an extra boost, I was going to keep changing my sim but she just earns too much money ( up to 743 an hour now) and just keeps getting raises!!
I tend to have the male spouse in Law Enforcement, Military or Sports (something manly) and the Female spouse in Science, Journalism and more recently Singer. I usually have the kids in a differant job from the parents to keep things interesting...

I always like culinary career ever since I'm playing Sims 2. But I do prefer culinary in sims 3 more for its occasional free food.

I love the medical career just for the money at the top level, my last sim ended up loaded. But I really like making money gardening. And the cool fridge from the culinary career is pretty sweet.

I have the sims 3 pets for ps3, but the career I pick is random, pretty much what I'm in the mood to have my sim be.  It also depends on the traits I give them and lifetime wishes.
