I want to pre-order Supernatural

I got 2 questions and I did not want to make separate threads.

I am sorry to post so many questions recently. I want to pre-order supernatural but there are few things that worry me. Firstly I don't know if I can buy it if I am not in US, secondly all my sims games and expancion packs were bought via Steam on 50% sale. I have Original, nightlife, adventures, generations and show time. I read somewhere that someone bought an expansion pack from steam but it would not go with her sims original game since she had bought it somewhere else, what if it's the same the other way round? Supernatural is not out for pre-order on Steam so I was hoping to buy it off official sims website. But then again I downloaded Riverview  and it worked and I have downloaded some cc's from that site and it worked fine too. ANyone here uses steam? what do you suggest?

Second question is: do you download game updates? is it mandatory? if so there are so many have no clue which ones to download. Or is it only if you are having some problems?

The Origin (or physical) version of the game and the Steam version of the game are completely incompatible with each other. If you want to preorder Supernatural, you'll have to add all of your game keys to Origin and redownload the game from there. Here is a link to the website where you will enter your codes. You can find these codes by selecting The Sims 3 in your library page and clicking on the CD Key button on the right side of the screen. Copy + paste into the EA page and voila! You'll be able to download and install from Origin.

As for updates, the Steam version auto-updates, so you're automatically running the latest version of the game as it is. The non-Steam version will have a notice in the game launcher when a new update is available. Whether or not you upgrade is a matter of personal preference. Each patch fixes some bugs while creating others.

I always download updates for a couple of reasons.  First, it's required for playing any of the challenges here on our Forum.  Secondly, it's way too much to try to keep up with if you want to just pick and choose which updates you want.  If EA releases an update for the game, then I think it should be downloaded.  Ultimately, I think it would be better to have everything installed so you at least have the most current bugs.
