Invisible Babies In Ambitions
« on: June 21, 2010, 09:57:07 PM »
When I start a new town I go into my library and pull familiar Sims and just plop them into spots around town. I don't intend to really play them but every once in a while I do a switch active household and check on them. I like to see what they might have done on their own. To my surprise I've found two of them have had invisible babies. The moodlet hangs over the crib, the parents pick up the babies and interact with them, they are just invisible.

Just curious to see if this has happened to anyone else.

If you have any third party content, it could be causing this problem.  Even if you didn't download it correctly, it can get into your game from Sim families and houses that you download from the Exchange.

In the past I've downloaded some items from TSR but not from the exchange.  However it's been quite a while and I've played a lot of games since the last time I did with no strange effects.

Actually, that's one of the major problems with mods and third party content and part of the reason why we strongly discourage their use.  Many times when EA updates the game, it's no longer compatible with the third party content and the problems start.  If this has started for you with the installation of Ambitions, that could very well be the problem.  I suggest you remove all third party content via the launcher and learn to live without it.  :)

I was wondering about that. I installed Ambitions on June 1 but I didn't have the first problem until 3 weeks later. Is it possible I downloaded something in that three week time span that made the game go kaflooie?  The last baby that was born was quite a shock. There was a fully developed, headless female wearing a bathing suit and white knee high boots just standing the the crib. I came back later and the baby was just invisible again. I aged the baby to toddler to see if that might change. It sure did! I've now uninstalled and reinstalled everything. I'm waiting to see if the babies are nornal again.

Yes, if you downloaded anything at all from the Exchange, you might have gotten this crazy infection in your game.  That's almost exactly the thing I saw when it happened to me months ago.  If you've downloaded a Sim family or a house that has Sims in it, that's almost definitely what caused the problem.  I absolutely never download Sims from the Exchange and I'm extremely cautious when downloading a house.  It's important to find a builder who doesn't use any third party custom content.

What is worse is, Custom Content can still get in your re-installed game! >:( It gets deep into the Saved Games, thus being in the whole game. So to completely get rid of it you need to uninstall and start over, without old games. A bit tricky when you have a Five Generation Legacy...  :-\

True.  The best way to get rid of all custom content is to wipe the game from your computer and don't save your files.  You can start clean with a fresh new game, but you lose your existing families.  When I reinstall the game, that's what I do.  I no longer have my 13 generation legacy family.  They got sacrificed for the good of the game.

That's what I did. I found that the regular old uninstall that comes with windows 7 does a through job of cleaning out everything. I checked in my program files and all other places files can hide and they had all been deleted. The only thing I had to manually delete was the files in documents.

Yeah, maybe I'll mess with this stuff when I'm truly bored with the game after the final patch for some compilation like the Sims 3 Complete Platinum package. Then play with custom content tailored for that final version. At that point 5 years down the road we'll probably have a mod section with some quality stuff. For now, I just can't stomach the potential headaches of using this stuff. But man, the hair is sweet. I am sure a fashion stuff pack is in the cards :)
