Sims moving to a new house..
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:56:34 PM »
I recently installed Showtime and updated to the most recent patch. I had my family use the phone to move to a new house. After they arrived at the house, I tried to go into Buy Mode to place the furniture, but I got the message that I wasn't able to go into Build/Buy Mode while my family's move was in process. I've never had this problem before. I've tried resetting the sims and deleting my cache files, but to no avail.

Also, sometimes when I quit the game, I get a blue screen with the game UI. The game won't actually quit. I have to CTRL + ALT + DLT and end the game from there. This isn't as much as a problem because my game saves but it just won't quit "properly". Just thought maybe someone might know a fix for this issue.

When you move you have to wait a little while before you can buy or build. It's not a long time, only a sim hour or so (it might not even be that long) Obviously, you must have tried as soon as they arrived on the lot. It also happens while there is a birthday happening.

Hi,

Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, waiting didn't help. I waited two sim hours and I still wasn't able to go into Build/Buy Mode. There are only two sims in the household and both were at the house.

Also, today I tried loading my game, and I go a message that an error occurred and to restart the application (the save not the game). I did and then got the same message. I tried restarting the whole game, and I got the same message. I then did a factory reset and was able to load my save. After the reset I still wasn't able to go into Build/Buy and my sims weren't able to communicate. One could heckle and had the "mean" menu option. Both sims had the nraas options, but they had no other way to communicate.

Is this even fixable, or should I just start another family? I don't want to lose them, but I've never had this problem and don't know what to do. My games have been glitchy but never to this extent.

It might just be a glitched save file.  I don't know a lot about glitches, that's why I come to the technical help board, so don't trust me to much about that.  Also, if you get your game working again,  and get all of your other problems fixed, you might need to wait until the icon with the feet is gone for every sim.

Hi, Clcole345

I don't know much about your game glitch either. But do have an idea to offer. You could save off the household, and create a new game for them.

Go to Edit Town, Click on household you want to save.  You can either save as household only or save household with house to "household" library, or share - which then saves the household as a .Sims3Pack file in your Exports folder. If you choose Share, it will automatically put a copy of the household in your "household" library.

After you've created a new game. Move your Sims in. If you've previously saved them, they should be in your household library.

I hope this helps, :)

You can also try using Edit Town to evict the family, then place them right back into the house.  That might be enough to get rid of the glitch.  Do you happen to have a backup save from before the move?  If so, go back to it and do the move again.  Be sure to wait plenty of time before trying to enter Build/Buy mode.

I just wanted to emphasize what others have said about waiting until all family members have finished moving. As long as the "feet icon" is still up in the corner of the screen, they are still in the process of moving. I like to fix up the new house right away and I have received that error message/warning when I have tried to enter Build mode too soon.
