Question - Keep family ties after sim moves out?

Question - Keep family ties after sim moves out?

I was wondering if there's away to keep the family ties in tact when a sim person moves out?

For example, I was hoping to play a game where I had a family of brother/sister. -- Sister has a son, and brother has girlfriend with daughter. Move the sister out, while the nephew stays with the brother. And keeps their family ties.

I created the relationship ties with Master Controller, but they broke when I either moved the sister out or killed her off.

I saved a game of the family for testing purposes in hopes that someone will be able to keep the family ties even if one of the sims moves out.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Family ties shouldn't break when you move a sim outside the household, or s/he dies normally. Do you mean this when you talk about moving out, or do you mean emigration (a sim moving out of town due story progression)? I think the latter removes family ties, as it's basically the same than removing the sim from the game file.

How did you kill the sister? If you used Master Controller's total annihilation, it removes all traces of that sim, as if s/he never existed. (I think - I have not used that function yet)

edit. to add that you should be able to reconnect the sister-brother tie with MC even if the sis is no longer living in the same house. But I still think it *shouldn't* be cut in the first place...

Yep, it does. I annihilated a Sim that Overwatch had recovered from Boarding School (and I didn't really like her anyway. :P). She's gone.

I just now found out that splitting the household in Edit Town mode may cut the family ties. So if you did that, it might be the reason. I always use the phone to move in Live mode and my have had my families intact. Still, I just read this somewhere, not tested in my game, so it may or may not be true.

If that is indeed the case, you encountered an error.  Moving sims around town, either via Edit Town or using the Phone interactions, should never detach family tree connections. :)

This is going to sound bad of me, but I can't remember how I killed the sister off. But I do remember trying aging up till elder. She dided of old age. The family ties broke then from both Uncle/Nephew, and Brother/Sister. :(

What family ties I was hoping to keep was the Uncle/Nephew.

We're testing the family out again to see what results we get. I'll post again to give results.

After testing things out, here's what we found out. Move the mother/sister out and leave everyone in the same town. Otherwise, the family loses their relationship. Hubby thinks it's because the Sim no longer exists in the game and it's the mother/sister relationship that ties the uncle/nephew relationship.

Thanks for the help!! I really appreciate it!!  Maybe now I can finally play this family the way I was hoping to play it. :)
