Tracking issue with foundation-style basement
« on: June 30, 2012, 10:49:58 PM »
I just made a foundation-style basement for the first time (removing the foundation inside the house to create a basement), but now when my sims walk into the house, they get "stuck" until I tell them to use the stairs - then they sort of glide-walk straight through the floor to the basement level, where they proceed to walk up the stairs and use the house more or less normally, until they are on the edge of the house (where there is still foundation), at which point they seem to think they are on the basement floor again and I have to send them to use the stairs.

I think I must have done something wrong while building, but looking at pictures and re-reading, I can't think what. Help?!

Hmm, I take it no one has seen this issue or knows how to solve it?

For now I have eliminated the basement and added foundation back in, but the house doesn't lend itself well to upward or outward expansion. I am looking for a place to get rid of a square of foundation and build down from there, but I'm having a hard fitting it naturally into the house... a spiral staircase really would have been ideal... Any helpful ideas?

You could try putting your house in the clipboard and then placing back where it was before, and reseting it as the active household.

Sweetwater Cafe and Nectary
Growing Family Home
Sunset Valley Fire Department
Savey Simoleon Mall
I welcome suggestions and constructive criticism about any of my builds on their threads.

I have seen similar issues in my own game, but I think Galena's idea should fix it. That and resetsim. I think resetsim usually fixes issues that I have like that. I think it happens when I use MOO and move a sim out of the way to build.

Thanks to both of you! I tried resetsim, it didn't help, but I also used MOO to move all my sims out of the way to build, so that could very well be what did it... I'll try to get them all out of the house without MOO next time and see if that helps. I spent hours building the perfect house just to have it not work, so it may be a couple days before I'm ready to try again, but if it happens again after avoiding MOO I'll also try the clipboard idea. If anyone's interested, I'm happy to post the results after I try it. :)

Yeah, the sinking is result of using MOO on a sim. I stopped moving them that way because it creeped me out (I'm always a little nervous about gamefile corruption). At least whenever I've used it on a sim, they sink trough the floor if they try any interaction, resulting on that feet stomping route failure. I'm sure the fault is not in your building. :)

I re-did the basement without using MOO (so hard to coax seven sims out of a house!) and it seems to be working just fine now. Thanks to everyone who answered - I'd never have guessed it was MOO, and I couldn't find the answer anywhere!
