Library Sims remember their parents even if not the original?
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:00:48 PM »
Sorry for the vagueness of the subject, it was hard to describe what I found.

I'm not sure if this is new but this is definitely the first time this has happened to me. I discovered that moving Library Sims into a new town by themselves remember their parents if they're there! Let me try to explain this.

I created Sim A (Father), and Sim B is a descendant from a file I made (Mother). She was a 7th generation sim. They're both in Sunset Valley.

They create Sim C (Daughter), who, after aging up to YA, I save a copy of her into my library.

Then I made a fresh new neighborhood, Sunset Valley 2, lets call it.  I moved the ORIGINAL Sim A (not the one from the file in the first Sunset Valley - he's an old man now) into the neighborhood, as well as the copy of Sim C (his daughter) into the neighborhood - NOT in the same household. However, when I checked both of their relationship tabs, they still consider each other to be father-daughter! How strange is that?

In a way, Sim A in SV2 had never had kids - he was just created! However, in SV2, it already shows that he has a daughter - possibly Sim C is older than he is!

This is really interesting. I wonder if I save Sim B in the original file (who's an elder now) into the library and move her in, will it show that Sim C is still her daughter? Sim C also had siblings, what if I brought them in as well? Would she still be related to her family still even though they are at different stages of their lives?

Here's an attempt to show what the family tree looked like.

SV (original file)
Sim A (created) ------ Sim B (Not created - born)

Sim C (born)

By now, Sim A and Sim B are old and Sim C is YA. I save Sim C to the library. And this is what I do.

SV2

Sim A (original created - still YA) (house 1)
Sim C (saved copy in the library) (house 2)

and yet they still show up related. So I wonder, how much will this game remember? What if we do grandmother (when she was a YA)  - mother (when she was a YA) - daughter? Will the game remember that as well?

Interesting.

I found a non cheat fix for this.

1) Save family to library
2) Switch to another town
3) Move them in
4) Save them to library again

Moving them to another town will sever family ties. I use this method for Sims I upload to the swapshop here so they can be used in any town without issue.
