Loner trait and Hidden Springs
« on: June 11, 2012, 03:16:44 PM »
I hope I have placed this correctly.  :o

I have given a new sim the loner trait, with the intention that she will be my main adventuring sim. It's way easier to adventure with a single sim, as opposed to multiple sims..

I've noticed that even though she is a loner, her social bar goes down. This happens even though she has the moodlet "enjoying solitude"

Is this normal? I thought Loner sims never needed to speak with others?

-edit-
I've never played with a loner sim so this is why I ask.
=========

When I created her I moved her into the new town Hidden Springs.. I'm noticing the same type of lagging I had in China.. (Not nearly as badly) I read that when a sim is stuck the game will try to figure out how to path them out and that is when the game freezes.. I've also noticed Hidden Springs is pretty empty.

Are there pathing issues? Does anyone know where they might be getting stuck at? I solved my China issues by making two lots no visitors allowed.. Now my China is smooth as silk..I would like this new town to also be lag free.

Thank you -s-

Yes, that is normal for the social to go down slower than normal sims. I hope that helps!

A bit offtopic: My China is also lagging. What lots did you set as 'no visitors allowed'?

Sea Unicorn: It doesn't seem to be going down "slower" It seems the same as my other sims.

Lemon Pie: Both the springs.. Hot springs and cold springs are right together.. One of them has the name Dragon in it..
Just use my Dear Carl post as a guide how -s-

I think it has too many hills .. My own sim got stuck at one of them.

As SeaUnicorn said, Loner Sims still have to have social interaction, just not as often as other Sims.  If you want a Sim who will be really happy on his/her own, have you considered an Insane Sim?  I once had one who did a lot of adventuring, and it was always easy to keep both his Social and Fun needs met just by having him talk to himself.  Of all the Sims I've taken adventuring, he was the easiest one in terms of meeting his needs.  And it was hilarious watching him, which helped keep my own Fun bar filled.  ;D

There are indeed issues in Hidden Springs that I think are related to pathing issues but I have never found where the pathing problem is.  I just kept using resetSim * on the whole town every morning around 6 am or right before bed if it was particularly bad.  Hidden Springs seems to be worse if you have pets because the Unicorn spawns in a rock and it just bogs down really easily.  I don't remember having half of these problems before Pets.

I don't have pets yet but I will in a few days.. Thanks for the tip..
This is a real bummer!  I'll keep searching and try to find the trouble spots.

Ricalynn, could I conclude from what you've said that there IS a way to make hidden springs less laggy? I actually gave up on playing there because of the lag spikes..

Back on topic, whatever their use, there is always a reason to have insane sims. Insane + loners are the best adventurers you'll find.(except, maybe, those with the adventurous trait..)

I gave up on Hidden Springs due to it's lagging and glitches. Same reason before I gave up on Riverview. they were towns created with too many routing issues.

Loner sims freak when surrounded by others. What other traits have you given your sim? My sim invited a loner sim on a group outing with 5 others. She panicked after 10 sim minutes, and said "there's too many people here for me to handle". My sim still got an increased relationship from inviting her though.

You don't need the loner trait for adventuring. If you give them something to do while they are "entombed", like playing a guitar, or they can call a friend, they don't get lonely.

I've never used the loner trait, except at the first as it was suggested for authors.  I don't really like it, but that is due to I think that I am a people person in real life so it feels abnormal.

As MoMoll stated, getting them to talk on the phone can take care of the problem.  With my family oriented sims, they can have a hard time in other countries due to lack of social interactions; and I so far haven't done any tomb exploring yet.
But, when it gets low, and it has gotten quite low a couple times, I  had them call home and in no time it was full.  Had one on top of a hill and was very loney, so had him call home and after a chat with wife, he was as happy as a lark.

Having the Sim call family is an excellent suggestion. I just discovered that myself and it filled up my Sim's social bar almost instantly. I had him call his daughter who is away at boarding school.

I've used the loner trait so I can establish the sim's personalities. But, I find it a pain because they get a negative moodlet at work because there is 'too many people'. I'm the type of person who likes to get my sims having a promotion a day at the first half of their careers, so a negative moodlet will stop that.
And yes, like numerous people have said, insane and loner is a very good combination for the sims that your know will be alone 90% of the time.
