Other Household not progressing in career
« on: November 30, 2010, 04:35:17 AM »
Hello people,

I'm new here, and I hope I can get friends and help here  :)
But before I continue, please excuse my bad grammar, english is not my main language, but I will try my best to type it right.

I have a question regarding story progression, and Ambition's profession.
I created some household, put them on the lot, and focus playing on one family, so far the story progression option seems in effect,
some people married, have babies, some cheat and ruined their marriage. But I realize that my other household that I create do not progress on their Job/career. They stuck on the first level of their career. I played for about 60-70 sim days and they did not get any promotion.

And another question is, if I set my neighbour (other families) to get a profession, say, an architect, will they advance?
What should I do? Buy them job related objects and put them on their house? Or maybe I missed something?

Thank you for reading this topic.  ;)

(If turns out there are answer in this forum, I apologize, and I'll be glad if I get some links.)

Welcome to our Forum, Project.

Your grammar is really very good, especially for English not being your main language.  The only changes I made were for capitalization at the start of sentences and to capitalize "I" for you.

As for your story progression, if you gave the other household one of the original careers (law enforcement, politics, criminal, scientist, etc.), they should show some progress in the career.  It may not be very much because you aren't controlling them to make sure they go to work and do well.  It's possible that they wouldn't get any promotions at all, but I think they would get something.

However, if you gave them one of the new professions from Ambitions (Stylist, Detective, Ghost Hunter, etc.), they won't advance at all because those professions have to be actively played to advance.  They aren't good for other Sims in town, just for the Sim you play.

I hope this helps you.  :)

Thank you Pam for your answer.

Ah, so I did not miss anything. Thats makes sense. Maybe I invited them to party too often. And thank you for giving me the fact that professions have to be played actively.  :)

About my grammar, well the last time I practicee online TOEFL, it didn't turn out good.  :) but again, thank you, and nice to know you.

Well Project, I might be a moderator but even my English isn't always what it could or should be. ;) So you sertantly don't have to worry about that indeed.
As for your post, I too am wondering how the career progression works in the game for other families. The fact is that some sims are your boss so you could asume they have made some progression in the progress.
Try to testingcheatsenabled true when playing another household and shift-click the mailbox to force the sim going up on the career ladder. If you will play your family after that and later comeing back you will notice that that sim still is in the career you've gived him but is doing really bad, probably because nobody is guiding him. That is all I can say about the career progression for other families. But still, it works pretty unreal if you ask me.

My English and grammar aren't always up to snuff, either.  And English is the only language I speak.  :P
