Help with flooring
« on: May 22, 2012, 10:34:14 PM »
I was making a parking lot, ans retextured a tile to make it look like asphalt with a yellow line, but there is a thin yellow line, and it looks very bad.

If I remove the asphalt with a yellow line, the parking lot looks boring and if I leave it looks bad
 Heres a picture.

It looks worse farther away, but I don't want to show people alot of that lot, yet.
Can anyone help me?

On the side of the tile opposite from the line I want a is a thin yellow line.  It doesn't look very bad in that picture but it does zoomed out more.

You've recolored a flooring tile to be black with a yellow stripe down one side, right? When you're placing the flooring, you should be able to rotate that tile (using the , and . keys, I think?) so that the stripe is down the opposite side and place those down the adjacent row of tiles so that you'll end up with a yellow line twice as wide.

The yellow line on the left is fine.  It is exactly how I want it to be .  I talking about on the right side of the tile with the line their is another line, which isn't visable in the original tile,  that is in the middle of my parking spot.  It is very thin, and you can't see it very well in the picture I provided, but as you zoom out it is more visible.

Oh I see what you mean. What was the tile you recolored? Did it have a stripe down both sides?

There are a couple tiles like it in either in masonry or stone.  I think one is black with a white border, and another one is tan with a yellow border.  None of the original colorings have that line, but all of my recolorings do.

Mine all do it too, and as far as I'm aware, so do the EA ones - I think they used the same idea in Appaloosa Plains. The best you can hope for is to lighten the colours a little and lessen the contrast.

OK, I think I may know a way to avoid it. Give me an hour or two and we'll see.

How does this look?

What I did, was make2 images in PhotoShop. One was just black and the second was the same black with a yellow stripe down one side.
Then I used those two images in Create A pattern to make two custom patterns.
Next I selected a floor tile (make sure it's one that joins seamlessly) and used the Create A Style tool to apply the new custom patterns to the floor.

I think I have another solution. Select the plain grey flooring (without the parking lines) and hold Ctrl F to place one triangle at a time, then place a grey triangle on the inner side of each of the lined parking tiles. In short, you'll want to paint over where the red-ish triangles are on this picture:

If done right, it should look like the picture on the left.  :)

Awesome! Great thinking Ausette! I've just put up with that very thin yellow line in the past. Now I can get rid of it on SO many lots!
