Edit town -- not sure about this

I have a family in AP, my twins, boy and girl, just aged up to toddlers and there is no nice family park that I have found.  So, I took a community lot and built a small playground, adding a section for adults, picnic tables, grill, fountain and flowers.  Not great, but okay.  Beside the gym I think is the location. 
Anyhow, I forgot to make it available for everyone.
I went back to see if I could change it and the selection of "current interaction  . . . will be cancelled".
Basically I want to make sure, this doesn't mean that it will cancel out my family, right?  I have saved them, so if I would lose them I can just go back to the last saved. 

Also, can I name the park and if so, how?

No, your family will just be sent back to their home lot. I can't remember how to name the lot, but I know there is a way.

You can change the name and description with the Edit Details button, the rightmost one on the lot popup.
