Going up! (but not down... )
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:14:22 PM »
In my current family's home, I have several levels of construction, one at, one above, and three below ground level, with a single spiral staircase running through them. My Sims can go up the stairs easily, but going down is a  complete failure, except for the bottom two levels. Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it that the stairway has walls on its sides on the first below-ground level and at the ground level? Do I need to leave a square open on every side?

I've included the house in question; it uses nothing but standard EA content (some of the components are from expansion packs)

How close is the wall to the stairs? Have you had a look at the stair guide here on site. There is a little on spiral stairs and walls around them. I can't download it now, but if you haven't resolved the problem, I can take a look at it this afternoon (it's currently 7.30 am here).

I remember having the exact same problem with my treehouse stairs, but I can't remember what fixed it.

I downloaded your house, but for some reason, it won't install. If you haven't resolved the problem, can you post a screenshot of the different levels where the stairs are?

It requires World Adventures, Generations, and Showtime expansions.

I have all the EP's and Stuff packs, but it wouldn't install. Kept telling me to check I had all the correct updates. Same message I get sometimes on bits of CC.

I was having this issue during the llama interior building contest.  I ended up having to move my stairs a so that instead of the squares being straight they were diagonal.  It had something to do with the place the sims would be standing when they left the staircase.  It can't be towards a wall and you can't have pictures, windows or anything nearby.

I finally found the problem. A spiral stair can have its "back" in a corner, but you must leave a square clear along both of the other two sides
