Tree of Prosperity
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:05:42 PM »
you'll find the tree of prosperity in the F2 buy,build/decor/plants tab.  It's 1000 simoleons - scroll to the bottom of the plants.  I also saw the yellow crystals between 1 - 3:00 am.  I was so excited I made my sim get up to eat it.  She got nectar making.  Haven't seen it since and I've had it for over a couple sim weeks now.

If the tree gets stuck, you can reset it with TCE turned on. You shift-click and select 'reset'. You can tell if it's stuck because it hasn't got any fruit even after changing.
With the yellow fruit, uou can get all the other skills that aren't covered by the other 4 colours - including driving! My teenage sim learnt to drive eating yellow fruit!

awesome, I didn't know about the driving.  I'll hope for that one.  I don't think the tree is stuck (but the TCE-good to know).  It's constantly changing and the fruit is always there.  I've just only seen the yellow the once and a 3rd sim week has now gone by.

The thing with the yellow fruit is that it only appears between 1 and 3 am. Now given the fact that the trees stay any one colour for four hours, they need to change colour (or be picked) at certain times so the change occurs in that 1am to 3am time frame.

ok, thanks.  Right now the couple I have using the tree pick twice a day each for 4 picks a day.  I know about the time slot 1-3 for yellow and I keep the tree in view at night.  I tried to reset the tree using TCE but I only got the object/delete option - no reset.  I assume that means the tree isn't stuck.  So hopefully, the yellow will occur again of it's own accord.  I'll try picking fruit around 10.00pm.

later - Yeah...I picked the fruit at 10.30pm and I got the yellow crystals. My sim got photography this time.  The next night I got it again and got riding.  So maybe it's a mishmash of all the skills.

I think on the whole, this tree is really a novel thing, but I probably won't use it to much.  I feel it takes away an essential part of the game.  I like the old fashion "we learn by doing" and "studying" approach.  Well deserved credit.  There are a couple subjects I really dislike and I may use the tree for those once they've achieved their other required subjects.  It makes a great ornament though.

Yes I did some testing with it when it first came out and the yellow fruit seems to be a random selection from all the skills the Sim has not reached level ten in.

I agree, when I first got it I thought wow, this will be so great, but after a little while, I decided it was much more fun getting the skills the old fashioned way. It does look pretty though!

They are good if you need to skill up quickly for a career or something, but inbetween while you wait for them to change (depending on how many you have - sometimes I plonk down half a lot full) you can skill the ordinary way. Plus, if you want to achieve the skill challenges for super-maxing, you might as well put the time into doing it the ordinary way.

I think this talk about the tree should be in a separate topic.  I'm going to split it.
