So I recently had a beyond awful experience with fire. My sims house caught fire and they wouldn't extinguish it! They just stood there and the fireman just stood outside! Glitches galore were happening. I was object deleting all over the place cuz my sims were in mortal peril! Then once everything was out it would just start back up again in a random spot so my getaway was impossible.  I had to close without saving which I HATE to do. So I thought of ways to keep a fire out without cheats.
PUT A SPRINKLER BY THE FIREPLACE. Ingenious. It works! I did a few trial runs with a sim. As soon as a fire starts just turn it on. The fires out in no time. It even puts out the fireplace. Idk if anyone else has found this out but I thought I'd share just in case so nobody else has to resort to no save exits.

Great tip! The only bad thing is that your sims will always get the "Play with sprinkler" interaction queuing up  :P

I usually just get the Fireproof homestead LTR.  Being absent minded myself and having multiple fireplaces in most houses I build is a bad combo lol
