Question about Gardening
« on: April 22, 2012, 04:46:47 PM »
In my legacy I am going to try to make Ambrosia. I am level one Gardening and level three Fishing. I read a Gardening book and it said I now have seeds in my family inventory. I went into Build/Buy Mode and took them out and put them on the ground outside my house. I tried to have my Green Thumb sim plant them but there is no plant here option. How do I plant them?

Notes that may/may not help:
  • My house is 110 Easy Street in Moonlight Bay (I chose this house because there is a pond in front of and beside it.
  • I have the seeds behind the house. Not smack dab behind the house but about two to four squares behind the house.
  • I cannot pick up other seeds around town.

I turned aging off till I get them plants planted.

To plant seeds, you'll need to pick them up and put them in your Sim's inventory. Then, click the seed in the inventory and it should give you the option to plant it. This also works with produce (lettuce, tomatoes, etc.).

Edit: Oops, it appears I was wrong. You do have to place them on the ground first, then click on them and select Plant Here. So, it sounds like you were doing it right. Not sure why the option isn't showing up then. :(

I have gardened before, so I know what to do. The 'Plant Here' option is not coming up. So while my sim fishes and cooks the seeds are just laying there. And the random seeds laying around I can't pick them up. Could it be a problem with my save?

Been awhile since ive played but from what I remember your sims gardening skill has to be a specific level to plant certain seeds so maybe it's not high enough? If they are common seeds such as tomato and lettuce then you should be able to plant them but if you can't you could try re-placing them and making sure there is atleast 1 big square grid between each seed. I recall having issues when seeds were placed to close together.

If all else fails you could try moving house (save first) as lots can tend to get bugged and moving can often fix some glitches.
Check everything else first before moving, make sure the seeds aren't too high a level for your sims gardening skill. I think it's something like you need to be level 5 to plant rare seeds and level 7 for special seeds, I could be wrong but you can always check the Gardening Guide for more info on gardening.

You could check your saves for any ending in ".bad" (without the quotes, obviously).  If it has that then the file is corrupt - try using a backup or previous save.  If its not corrupt, have you tried resetting your sim?  It's not a magic bullet, but it does seem to fix all sorts of ills.

Hi, Ashel.

Unfortunately, the Console versions don't have file extensions like the PC/MAC version.

Superbad, I think you may be right that there's something with the save game. Try HotShot's suggestion of moving houses. If that doesn't work, you may have to start over. :(

This is what you get for missing the fact that it was posted in "the console version" forum.   ::)

@HotShot2k They are the seeds you get if you read the first Gardening Book. Tomato, Apple, and Grapes I think. I guess I could move houses but I'd have to wait 'till I get enough money. I will try moving.

I really don't want to start a new one because I got my future Immortal to level 5 Fishing and like level 7 Cooking. And I already have a few Deathfish in my inventory. But I will try to move. I will move to the three bedroom house (72 Erin Street). As I think that once my two sims are Immortal, they will have kids.

I know it's a pain in the rear having to move in the hope it will fix it.
From what I recall I got the no plant option with my sims who's gardening was level 8 or higher and after re-placing the objects I got it to work. If you haven't tried replacing the seeds do so, make sure their not next to any other objects such as being too close to a fence or wall as thats stopped me from planting in the past as well as the seeds being too close together.

It's strange that you can't pick up other seeds which may suggest your save may be bugged. Hopefully thats not the case and you get it sorted.

I made a new save. It works fine now. I guess it was the save. My Immortal has 3 Gardening, 8 Fishing, and 5 Cooking. Almost there. Thanks for all the all help guys and gals.
