I know this issue has been discuused to death.  But my lot is red!  I had my 2 sims move to the lot by the lighthouse and replaced it with the one with the gameroom and spa.  One of my sims is a upcoming rockstar who likes to party.  And the family amassed loads of simoleons.  So of course I had him buy the best stuff and now the meter is red and the game is starting to stutter!  I tried selling some things but its not helping.  Should I move them somewhere else?  One of the sims is an elder with about 25 days left.  Also does having lots of simoleons affect the game somehow?

Just wondering how many of you wish the fire meter is abolished?
Personally I think it took out half the sims fun away. Building and decorating a perfect home for your sims is as much a fun as dictating your sims life. They provide so many wondrous items - even the collection stuff - only to put a cap on it?  :-\ My sims... ok, I, have been struggling with the meter every-sim-day, not able to spend those simoleans...

The whole reason for the fire meter in the console versions is the meter represents the amount of system memory available for the lot. Every object you place adds to the fire meter - bigger objects add more to the fire meter than smaller objects. To get an idea of how much you can cram onto a lot, check out the Clique's house (Gothic).

The more technical reason for it is that the house and neighborhood section have to fit into the console's limited memory along with the rest of the game files.
