Quesion on children: skills and traits
« on: April 18, 2012, 10:58:24 AM »
not sure if this belongs here, in career or in general, so if in the wrong spot, please move it.

My sim family has two toddlers who aged up to children (the two babies, twins, just aged up to toddlers) and I have picked the traits of love outdoors, artistic and photographer's eye for both of them.  I was hoping I could guide them to become visionary or world class gallery.

They keep having pictures of them fishing and both of them have had wishes for fishing; to fish, gain a skill and oldest (girl) wants to attend a class on fishing (can that be done for children?).  The girl has started to paint (is at level three) and has a wish to write a book.  Both have, by playing chess, risen I think to level three in logic.  Both are on the honor roll.

My question is, does the fishing mean their LTW will have something to do with fishing such as angler?  The boy seems to be focusing more on computers (playing games) and reading books and the girl on painting and reading books.

Dad has a wish for the boy to be a genuis, so I am guessing I should make that his next trait.

When I chose artistic and photographer's eye the want for visionary came up when they became children. Had one who wanted to be "Di Vinci".

The desire to fish comes from the Loves the Outdoors trait.  If he continues to fish a lot, there's more chance he'll want to do the perfect aquarium Lifetime Wish.  However, just because a child or teen has a wish for a particular Lifetime Wish doesn't mean you have to grant it.  You can delete those wishes and wait until the child ages to young adult.  At that time, you'll have to pick something and you'll be able to choose from all LTWs the game provides.  You could easily choose Visionary or World Class Gallery at that time.

Pam pretty much summed it up, but I'm just adding that skilling kids up in certain skills will encourage them to roll those related LTW as they go (eg:if you only work on the chess table they will roll science related wishes, or the chess expert one) .  You don't have to choose it, just wait until they age up to YA to pick what ever.

I know that during the Sunset Valley Clone Challenge, my Clones would appear at the Science Center (where the unicorn hangs out) and would often roll Fairy Tale Finder (almost immediately) or other pet related wishes, just from being near the unicorn/wild horses.  So not only skills, but environment can encourage the random kid wishes.

I usually wait until they age to YA.
