Is it safe to edit service NPCs in CAS?
« on: April 15, 2012, 05:35:33 PM »
Hi,

I am currently playing in a custom world which includes an open market and bookstore (a la World Adventures), and subsequently there are service cashier NPCs at these locations. Since the market person had horrible clothes on, I decided to edit him with the Edit in CAS cheat. CAS opened, I made changes to the hairstyle, clothing, added body hair, etc., but when I clicked on the Personality tab, it freezed. I could rotate the sim and zoom in/out, but no tabs would open. I couldn't even exit CAS.

I got frustrated and ended the game's process with Task Manager. I have saved just before doing this so I didn't lose any gameplay but it was still an unpleasant experience. Now it's left me wondering; is it safe to edit these service non-playable characters in Create-a-Sim, with the cheat or Twallan's MasterController? Do you have any experience with this? Have you correctly edited service sims before?

My game has gotten buggy when I have used the CAS cheat so I tend not to use the cheat. For other people their game might be fine. It is like most bugs in this game they affect some but not all players.

I've used Master Controller to do it successfully, though I only edited appearance and not personality.  I wasn't even able to enter CAS with an NPC using the cheat since so often they're in their work uniforms and the game won't allow you to edit them that way (though MC does.)

If you have Master Controller, you can use Stylist instead of Edit in CAS -cheat to change clothes/hair/make-up.
I use this feature to make my townies look better, because the CAS cheat resets their age, but Stylist via Master Controller does not.

My game sometimes gets stuck in CAS like you described and I have to force shut it. So it could have been just a coinsidense it happened when you were using the cheat on a NPC.

Thanks, Noodles, for that tip.  Sometimes I'm afraid to choose XYZ option in a mod if I'm not sure what it does.   ;)

My game is having problems with CAS lately, so perhaps indeed this was just a coincidence.

Thanks for the tip. I will be using the Stylist option from now on if I don't really care about the genetics and personality of a sim. Just in case anyone's wondering, - click the sim > NRaas > Master Controller > Stylist (is at the bottom).
