Strange problem placing incense burners.
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:16:25 PM »
This makes no sense to me and just wondering if anyone else has this problem.
When I'm playing in Sunset Valley I can put the small shelf on the wall and place all 3 incense burners on it. They just fall right in place with no problem and no cheats.
But if I play any other town I can only get 2 on the small shelf even if I try using the moveobjects on cheat.
I can build a house in Sunset Valley and place them there then move the house to another town and they stay on the shelf. But I can't add any more to the house using the small shelf. If I want to add some to other rooms after moving the house I have to use the large shelf.
This has been bugging me for while and finally decided to ask about it.

Sunset Valley

Any other town

Hmmm...I'm not really sure.  Placing objects gets a bit funny sometimes.

Have you tried placing the shelf in a full square?  While I can't really tell in the SV image, it looks like that may be the only difference.

Have you tried with placing the chinese incense burner last or do you always put them on in the same order?

Even after moving the house from Sunset Valley to another town I can move the shelf with the 3 burners to a different spot and put a shelf in the spot it was in and can still only get 2 burners on it. So it's not the location.

If I'm in Sunset Valley I can place them in any order that I want to.

I believe Ricalynn's question wasn't in reference to the location of the town, but the spot on the wall/floor.

Your pictures that show all three on the same shelf appear to have each shelf take up a "whole" floor tile squares - solid lines on either side. Your picture that shows only the 2 burners appear to take up 2 "half" floor tile squares - dashed lines on either side.

(In other words, your third picture with the 3 shelves next to each other? I can see that your room is 5 squares long, and placement of the shelves show that you could easily fit 2 additional shelves in that row, one on each side. Contrast that to the second picture, that shows only 2 burners next to each other. That one looks like the shelf is in square 2.5, and as the room is 6 squares long, you could fit 4 additional shelves in that row, two on each side; you'd still have a "half square" space free at the far ends.)

What if you moved the 2.5 square shelf into either square 2 or square 3?

(I hope that made sense!)

I've tried the shelves in several locations and and it will only let me place 2 burners on the shelf in any town except Sunset Valley.
And if I move a house to a different town and grab a shelf with 3 burners on it and move it some where else and put a empty shelf back in that same spot I can only get 2 burners on it.
Or if after moving the house to a different town if I remove one of the 3 burners from a shelf it wont let me put it back on the shelf again. It will only accept 2 burners even tho it had 3 before.
It's a strange bug and I was just wondering if anyone else had run into this or if it was just me. :)

Strange and odd. I would think all three should fit just fine.

I'll have to make a test file in SV and see if it holds true for me.

On a similar note, can you fit 3 of them onto an end table? (My assumption is, if it works for one, it should work for both).

Was the shelf with the 3 on it placed before an update perhaps? Maybe an object update changed how many slots it has or something, and this particular shelf was not 'upgraded' with the patch? If you get a brand new shelf in SV, does it still do it? Can you put just two to the left, or just two to the right, instead of none in the middle? If you can place just one in the middle, you could use MOO and have two shelves overlapping. One with an incense burner either side, and the other with one in the middle. It doesn't explain the unusual problem, but it's an idea.

Did you try resetting each of the incense burners? Or replacing them? One of them might be borked, and not the shelf. Or, does it matter if they are lit/unlit?

Ok, I just tried with the Alto household first, on the 2nd floor of their house.

All three burners fit just fine, lit and unlit.

Then I went to the Crumplebottom household, on the 1st floor of her house.

I could only fit 2 burners on at any given time, no matter what order I placed them in, no matter what order I used to place them (China 1st, Egypt 2nd, France 3rd; France 1st, China 2nd, Egypt 3rd; etc).

I also tried the "half square to half square" and the "whole square only" for Agnes, no change, the 3rd burner was not placeable.

I've not the time tonight to do more extensive testing, but I can do so later, or someone else can do it.
