Help with downloading Mods?

I decided to try to download a few mods to my game, but I am having difficulty getting them to work. I am using this website: http://nene.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files so I didn't have to install any kind of file extractor. I can get through the set-up with no problem, but then when it tells me that I have to test the mods that automatically come with it, they don't work. Is it because I didn't download a file extractor? Did I need to do something with the CFG file? If someone could help me out that would be great!

It looks like the mods that come with it haven't been update for awhile so my not work with the current patches. Try downloading a mod that's updated and see it it works.
If you have the mod and package folders in the right place and the resource.cfg file you should be good to go.
