My question, for all you experienced builders out there, is: when you recolour a wall covering or some other Build object, is there a way to save your recolour? When I recently built the Sunflower Cottage (in the Swap Shop) I recoloured a bunch of different wall coverings and the only way I could think of to keep them all was to put up temporary walls and apply the different patterns to them. But if I ever want to use those wall coverings again, I'll have to go through that process all over again. I know we can save recoloured patterns and clothing, but if there's a way to save recoloured wall coverings I haven't figured it out yet. Please tell me I'm missing something obvious, and there is a way to do it!

I can't boot up my game at the moment to check the exact method, but I save wall coverings all the time :). It's a folder button either in the Create-a-Style pallet or the list of colouring options at the top left of the screen.

For a wall, it's the panel in the top left like Ausette said. It's the panel that usually shows you the variations of the wall type that you're using.

just confirming what the others said, also you can even choose to save the recolor of a pattern by adding it to the favorites, it's another way to save a recolor

This is great news. I figured I must be missing something, and I'm glad to know that indeed, I was. Thanks very much, everyone!

One minor, possible difficulty. Sometimes when you save in that upper left hand frame, the small thumbnail will show you something other than the recolor you just did. If you save it that way you will have to remember what that unusual thumbnail stands for. "Gee, I thought I made pink roses, not green ones". So you won't necessarily want to play that guessing game. So you decide to delete it instead and then try saving it again. This can go on for several tries, deleting thumbnail after thumbnail including ones you previously saved! Anyone know why this happens? I save a huge amount of recolors and have basically decided my safest place for them is in favorites. It won't save as a wall or object, but it will at least save the pattern.

Another thing to note is that when you save a recolour of something that connects to something else - I especially noticed this with the modular lounges that came with NL - it won't work unless you have it all by itself and not connected to anything else. I rebuilt all the bars onto the smallest possible lots so that they would fit in SV, and using that function was enormously helpful and saved a LOT of time. I found it confusing when certain items - like those lounges, and benches - would not be there when I went into my new, small lot and wanted to place them.
Another thing I learnt much too late in the game was that if you grab the dots on the top left corner of the colour palettes, you can copy a whole colour scheme across to other items, rather than doing it one by one.

You can? Woot! I'll so have to try this! :) Also is anyone else unable to save recolours of half walls?

Do you mean recoloring the top and then saving it? If so, I can.

Yes, I do that but it doesn't apply when I select that. Stays as the Default.

I learned that very early in the game ;D The recolors of half walls don't work for me either, but only after I exit the game and restart it, while building they work normally
