Title: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Honeymooners on October 06, 2009, 01:46:22 PM
I am super excited -  I can't wait to play France and China-

I wish they would come out more screen shots of France....

I am too!  It looks like they're taking turns releasing info, videos and screenshots.  First was Egypt, now China and probably right before they release ep it will be France.

I just saw on Snooty's site that there is an unconfirmed release of a special Christmas edition along with the sp in Feb.  Guess I'll have to start saving now!  ;D

I'd love to make an Egyptian Pharaoh or something.
Maybe even start my own Dynasty  :D

Man I wish you'd get your wish, but from what I've read of people who've played the beta it's like this for visiting places:

It's like a vacation. You can stay there only so long. Completing tasks in other countries will get you "visa" points and eventually you can buy a vacation home there.

I think that was their only gripe though. I'm going to do an article on it and add all the info I find and try to constantly update it with new sources. I don't have beta access but we can find people who have reliable info this way.

Thankfully it looks like there's a ton to do in the foreign locations, with gathering artifacts (assembling pieces we find even) and new traits, skills (karate baby!) and lifetime wishes for us!

I'm very excited for World Adventures. From a tournament hosts' perspective it's going to fuel my imagination for new and fun challenges for Carl's site. Once I get a feel for the new content I'm sure I'll be throwing something up at the Challenges forum incorporating WA stuff.

I was reading some updated news articles on a few sites last night and found mention that we are getting Life Fish with this expansion and a bunch of other new items in plants and collecting.  Those are the things that really excite me at the moment.  Little over a month and we will get to play!!!!  Woot!!!!

Happy Simming....

The most exciting thing is EA and Maxis made Sims 3 and World Adventures so great.  Imagine what will be in 10 years? What Sims will look like?  Probably just like us!

Yeah, I'm excited about WA...from all the screenshots/videos it looks like it's going to have so much for our Sims to do!  Of course my 5 star chefs are wondering what new cuisine might be added to their recipes  :D!  After all we are going to have France...how can they avoid adding new food!  ;D

Yeah we better be making Crepes. France is a major center for cuisine. I'm more into the exploring dungeons. I'll have to redo my Lara Croft character.

They should also add Chinese cuisine while they are at it. Heck, they should add every cuisine for everyplace they are going to add in.

Yep this game is going to have a huge recipe book, and I hope i will eventually see it with the longest skills list available. It will be interesting to see how the new skills and such fit into other combinations.

I'm hoping for new causes of death. The old expansions added them in gradually, eventually I think there were quadruple the ways to die in the Sims 2.

Sims 3 is my first experience with any of the Sims games, so I'm even more excited about World Adventures.  From what I hear, expansion packs make a world of difference in the game and they keep coming out with more of them over a period of years.  Yes!  I'm excited about it!

I forget you haven't played before, yeah you should be exited. A lot of people have complained about Sims 3 and what they're missing, I think they forget how much of the fun was added with the EP's. It can be new neighborhoods or new careers or entirely new gameplay elements, for example gardening and fishing were added in EP's. Or new sims; your sim could become a werewolf or be resurrected as a zombie.

Here's a list of the EP's for Sims 2 to give you an idea of what we might expect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2#Expansion_packs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2#Expansion_packs)

My favorite was Seasons which made the seasons change. For example in the fall the leaves fell off the trees and you could rake them up and compost them to use as fertilizer in your garden and in winter sometimes it snowed and your sims could have snowball fights and build snowmen. Oh and the garden plants went dormant in winter so no gardening and the ponds for fishing froze over. That made the everyday life of your sims change with the seasons. :)

I'm hoping for new causes of death. The old expansions added them in gradually, eventually I think there were quadruple the ways to die in the Sims 2.

:D I don't remember that, I think I must have missed most of those. Maybe that should be a section of the guide, "How to Kill a Sim". :D

Wow, less than a week away from the WA coming out...I'm getting it as a present, yeah they had to tell me what my BirthD present was because I was talking about pre-ordering from your site (sorry Carl)   :P!  :o
I'm so excited to see what EA is adding to the game!  Squeeeeee!  ;D

I am too! I think it's a little ridiculous that it costs 40$ (I think!) I paid 55$ for Sims 3, so I don't think I'll be buying this anytime soon!

Yea, it is expensive and I had been saving up to buy WA since I heard it was coming out, but now maybe I will stash that away for a rainy day!  ;)

I just wanted to post this link from an article I was referred to from InsideMacGames —

http://worthplaying.com/article/2009/11/10/news/70104/

The new Photography skill looks awesome. With all of the press self-employment options like Writing, Painting, and Guitar playing have received in the various challenge threads I wanted to do some kind of pure artistic challenge. Now I'm going to wait until WA is released and really do it up big where you might have an "artist" house — 4 different artists all pursuing different aspects of the game.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Carl on November 11, 2009, 07:27:27 PM
Gamespot has said that adventuring is a full-fledged self-employment option, with tents and even showers in a can for us to use to keep our Sims comfy while they're exploring tombs and ruins.

I was excited about "Nectar making" as a skill, but not so much now that I know it's basically brewing wines. Hopefully these wines act like potions and can cure fatigue and the like if we invest the time in developing the skill. We're less than a week away and the team is going to be going berserk working to get new info out as quickly as possible.

Expect skeleton guides at first with info filled in as we obtain it.

I just placed my order for WA with Amazon. I actually typed up a note to be included (from myself) in the box:

------

Metro:

Thanks for putting some dollars in this starving student's pocket. I just ran out of ramen noodles.

Your friend, Carl

-------

Good taste won out, as I realized my wife might intercept the package before me and promptly set up an appoint for me with a psychiatrist.

I did splurge on one-day shipping though as I can't wait to create some new challenges for the site.

You need some real food. It's probably the reason why you're incoherent sometimes. The good news is I'm a great cook, so when my wife takes our 3 daughters to Florida in March for their annual spring break vacation we need to get together.  ;D

Lucky?! Carl is probably going to ban Pam for not ordering her copy via Amazon to support the site. It's been nice knowing you, Pam.  ;D  ;)

Seriously, Pam, you may be the first forumer to play WA. I'll be anxious to get your impressions. Knowing you you'll you'll want to immediately start Woo Hooing with foreigners to start large families.  :D

That made me laugh!  I was just thinking today if there would be any scenarios for families in World Adventures and what the toddlers will be like.  Lol!!

And I actually ordered it from EA before I knew about the Amazon thing to support the site, so Carl was willing to forgive me.  :D

He's tough to please. I turned in my Leader of the Free World article to him today and all he said was, "Next time let's get this in quicker, okay?" Sheesh. Oops, am I talking out loud again?  :D

I can't wait to do the Photographer Lifetime Wish. That has my name all over it.

EDIT: I just received an email from Amazon that my WA order shipped today and I'll be receiving it tomorrow (Tuesday). Sweet! That's 2 days ahead of schedule.

*screams and Jumps up and down* I just got my copy! My husband played the meanest trick on me. He called and told me that the store was sold out and then he walked through the door five minutes later with the game under his shirt and a crinkling sound tipped me off that he's the biggest tease on the planet.

Fantastic to those who have their game already!  Us here on the west coast are the last to get anything, ::) so I'll have to wait.

I have 98 minutes before I can go pick up my copy from Gamestop...not that I'm counting the minutes. :D

Sorry Carl, I had pre-ordered before I saw your post.

I just got my game!  I'm so excited  ;D.  I haven't installed it yet, want to go over to the EA forum to see if they resolved the patch trouble from yesterday.  It seemed to cause some trouble with the game.  Have fun with your WA game everyone! :D

I found this thread just now:

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/125874.page

Seems the gist of it is you should not patch on top of the expansion. Probably because a lot of bug fixes, etc are already included in the expansion, and if you patch on top of it, a lot of files might get screwed up.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: igzigpuff on November 17, 2009, 11:57:26 AM
I was reading this thread and it looks like they are still having trouble with the patch.
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/15/125841.page
I think I will wait before installing my WA game since someone also said you have to put in the patch to download the game.  :( :-\

Edit: EA also took the patch down from their NEWS page and looks like they will be patching the patch from what everyone is saying.  :o

Edit: Ack!...here is another thread you might want to read....

EA released an update to the game yesterday, which I installed.  It's got some nice changes to the game.  But now I'm concerned that it's got problems after reading that post.  I noticed some of those issues myself.  I don't see any recommendations yet on how to fix the problem.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Metropolis Man on November 17, 2009, 12:03:07 PM
Pam, EA must be on this already because they've pulled the patch link from this page:

http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches

You might want to just wipe everything and reinstall with no patch and play the waiting game for now.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?

Wow, this is all so disappointing...I guess I will wait to install my WA EP until they put out a proper patch... :P
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Metropolis Man on November 17, 2009, 12:10:08 PM
I don't know if it's the expansion that's the issue. It sounds like the expansion in combination with this latest patch is what's causing problems. But, hopefully there will be answers soon.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: igzigpuff on November 17, 2009, 12:20:07 PM
Well from what I am reading over on the EA forum the patch is definitely causing allot of trouble, although a few say the game has some trouble too!!??  How they can tell is beyond me  ???.
Although as always some are saying their game is running fine....sigh  :-\  What a quandary.  :P
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?

Thanks Metro.  I'm going to launch the game now and see how it's doing.  I've never reinstalled a game this large before.  Do you have any tips to get me through it?
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Metropolis Man on November 17, 2009, 12:25:56 PM
Well, first you'd want to save any families you want to keep. Just throw those files on your desktop. Then, you're safe to completely wipe all Sims 3 content from your hard drive. Just reinstall the vanilla game and the expansion, and then hopefully today or tomorrow EA will release a solid patch.

ACK! I am stuck at work!  4 more hours...

I think that this is a great time for a public service anouncement.

BACK UP YOUR SIMS BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD ANYTHING!!!!

unless you don't care about them....

I just don't understand why EA/ Maxis doesn't do a better job testing Sims before they release them.  Do other EA games have these issues?

EA/Maxis also put out SimCity 4 and I remember having plenty of issues with that game. But, it's amazing games of their complexity work at all isn't it? I mean, the amount of coding involved must be just beyond belief compared to most computer games.

I've found a temporary workaround for the error 16 while saving issue.  Use "Save As" from the menu instead of "Save" and the error message doesn't appear.  I just tried this and it worked fine.  My game was saved at the point I left it.

Hope this helps!

p.s.  Thanks for the tips, Metro.

Oh, I know EA disabled the link. I already mentioned that. But, at least when I clink on the link I provided it takes me to the patch listing.

EDIT: wildredchild just PM'd me asking for the changes list. Everyone should see it because it's massive. This is actually where I found it:

Let me know if you guys can't link to that. Don't know what I can do if there's problems.

It's the forum at the official site that is dead, at least for me. Maybe they've had too much traffic what with both WA and the patch coming out.

The problem is with the new 1.5/1.6 patch, Cel. At the moment it's not available from EA, so they must still be working out some issues.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?

Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?
Post by: Metropolis Man on November 17, 2009, 02:52:01 PM
Well, I reinstalled the vanilla game and the expansion immediately afterwards. When I launch the WA Launcher I get no notice that any update is available. So, I'm assuming that this 1.5/1.6 update is not rolled into the expansion and will be fixed. Pam, you installed your expansion yesterday and THEN you got the Update notice at the WA Launcher screen, right?

Huh, I wonder why I'm not getting any problems...I downloaded a patch right after I installed WA..

Was this yesterday, Cel? It seems EA just pulled the plug on the update today.

Hi all,
Yeah, that's ahuge Patch Notes release...
I had the patch roll in this morning, and have had no problems per se with the program operating. I have a few bugs that I'm checking now to see if they're global or specific.

I haven't my WA copy yet  :'( but Base+ Patch 1.6 seems not too horrible for me.
Title: Re: Who is excited about " World Adventures"?

I was just on the phone for 15 minutes with an EA tech support person (10 minutes was being put on hold). Needless to say, they didn't know squat. So, I guess I'll just keep launching the game and when the patch issues have been resolved I should see something in the launcher. I really don't want to play WA without that patch.

Well, patience is not my best virtue and I created a new character with the expansion. I quickly sent her to the library to get 3 gardening skills so I could see about this new fertilizing option mentioned in another thread. It was there — Fertilize Garden with Best Fertilizer. And I have installed no update — I haven't had the option. So, I'm wondering if most (or all) or the 1.5/1.6 content is already in the expansion?

That is how I understand it.  I read an article on Snooty that said that the patch was basically for people who weren't adding WA yet.

Pam, you installed your expansion yesterday and THEN you got the Update notice at the WA Launcher screen, right?

No, my WA just arrived a couple of hours ago.  I got the update notice on my vanila Sims 3 yesterday (or whenever it was).  I've got WA installed and am about to launch for the first time.

Ah, well, then that's enlightening, Pam. That may explain why I have never seen an update option. I completely reinstalled vanilla and the expansion to to make sure everything was nice and clean. So, maybe I don't even need the patch. Unsure.

Not much to report yet. I'm digging into my photographer. One thing I noticed in the miniscule documentation that came in the DVD case is it says you can buy a basic camera at any of the 3 locations at the general store. I couldn't find one in France. Maybe they're there somewhere, but I went to the market and didn't see them in the inventory. But, I went to Egypt and did get a nice one. My first photo is worth $100 Simoleans!

I'm digging around in all the new stuff. I found a 2,300 year old bottle of nectar. It was cool. Oh, and have you guys tried the basement feature yet? I love it! I've been to France and Egypt but I haven't been to China yet, how is it? Oh, and Metro, The general store has a crappy disposable camera available.

240 DKK for the English edition. That's around 65 in Kiwi money or US$48 and the release date here is also Nov. 20th.
If I wanted the Danish edition it's an extra US$10 but then the release date for that is Nov. 19th.

Meh.

Amazon UK is currently selling at £23.29 although RRP is £29.99, due out 20th Nov. Hope Santa gets it for me.

My converter programme says £23 is about $38.

I got my game a day early, yay! I'm installing it now. ;D

Am I the only non English speaker here? The install program speaks to me in Danish. I did not ask it to do that and I don't get the option to choose a language for the game. I hate these "smart" programs that presumes to know what I want just because it can see where I live. >:(
I really hope it doesn't install a Danish language EP on top of an English base game. I've tried that with an earlier version of the Sims, it makes the game bi-lingual and not in a good way. :P

*waiting impatiently*

----------------------------------------

Ah, the shortcut is in Danish but the game so far appears to be in English. I hope.

Oh well, I'm off simming.

Thanks. :)

I'm already liking the new outfits and objects, I always like new things to play with. And I made a Sim with all the new traits. I'm starting with a new family so it will be a while before they have enough money to travel.
Oh and their house was apparently built on an ancient burial ground so they have a house full of ghosts and no money. :D

I have to admit I used "motherlode" to fully exploit the adventures! Anybody else?

I'm playing my Ant family and they are wealthy enough to travel nicely.  But I was just thinking earlier that this would be a time when using the motherlode cheat wouldn't really be cheating so much because you really can't play the new game at all without some money and I don't see the point in struggling through a regular Sim life to earn enough money to travel.  I say use the money cheat and go to France!
