Hi!
Newbie here but have enjoyed the forum so much over the past month, it's been a great help!
I got the game for Christmas and was playing it on someone else's Mac. I'm about to get a new PC and would like to know if/how to transfer my saved game onto to my PC? Is it even possible? Can I copy my saved game/neighborhood onto a disc from the Mac, install the game on my PC and then copy the saved game into the correct folder there? ???
Anybody done this before?
Thanks in advance! :D

I've never done that. I play on a Mac myself and can actually boot into Windows too. I'd test it out for you, but I have no need to install and play Sims on Windows since it works great on OS X. I would think it would work fine as I believe the Save files have the same extension for both Mac and PC. As long as you put the Save folder in the right place after your PC installation you should be good to go. And worse case scenario, you don't see the file at the Main Menu and it won't work. That would be the only negative thing that would happen. But, I don't think that's the case.

Welcome to the forum, Joy!
I have absolutely no experience with a Mac, but that's not going to stop me from chiming in! Hehe. I would think that Mac files and PC files are completely uncompatible. I worked on a site that featured reviews of casual games and I never heard of anyone being able to cross them over like that.
But Metropolis Man thinks it might work and he's a sharp guy, so maybe it will. I'd like to hear if anyone else in the community has anything to add.

Thanks so much to you both!
Yeah, I have my doubts, but am HOPING it works! ;D
It will be a few weeks before I get my new PC - but I will post back here when I get it and try this out and let you know.
Thank you again!

It all depends on the file extensions, Pam. If I send you a .mp3 file created on my Mac will you be able to listen to it? Yes. If I send you a .jpg of me eating breakfast in my underwear will you be able to view it and laugh? Yes. Common file extensions. I'm pretty sure the Save folders have the same extensions. But, there's files inside the folders that's an unknown for me.

Yep, it sure will work: according to this old thread on gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/thesims3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-50575189&pid=936498). Makes sense, there'd be no need for them to change the file extension of the saved games for the different OS's.. heck, the game even comes from the same DVD so..Good luck!

Oh YAY - that is great news!!!!! ;D Thank you so very much!
That makes a lot of sense about the file extensions.
Now I'm just counting down the days till the new computer comes so I can play again.....

Just a quick note to say it worked! I copied the saved game files onto a disk from the mac, installed the game on my new pc, and copied over the files, no problem! ;D
