Title: How did they put pictures on the wall at different heights
Post by: grimsoul on April 23, 2011, 07:04:55 PM
I was working on remodeling a house and noticed the pictures on the wall. They are the same pictures but hanging at different heights. I was wondering how they did this. It's something I've been wanting to be able to do.

The house is in Bridgeport across the bridge by the water at 64 Queensbury Road and the picture is called Friday Flying Kite by Nick D.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

The ability to put pictures at different levels came with the release Late Night.  After placing the picture, click and hold and your cursor will turn into an up/down arrow.  Then you can raise or lower the height of the picture.

Can we do this with windows and wall decorations? I know we can with wall mounted lights, but I was decorating a baby Sim's room with the butterfly decoration and I couldn't get it to move lower down, but I thought we could move wall decorations?

I can't get the paintings to move.  :( I've tried it in buy mode and live mode. It just doesn't work for me.

Wonder why, It works in either Build or Buy mode.
When you click and hold the mouse button it'll be a closed handing holding the picture then start moving the mouse up or down the wall and it should turn into a up and down arrow icon. I have to move the mouse a a fairly good ways before it changes to the arrows.

From the Kids Decor list it work with the Life Preserver, Wall-Mounted Fish and the Real Pretty Butterflys. But nothing else.
Doesn't seem to work on windows either.
Doesn't work with the certificates you get for reaching level 10 of a skill. That was what I really wanting to use it for.

Figured out you can put two small painting in the same column also. Put them both on the wall and move one all the way up and the other one all the way down then you can move one of them over and put it over or under the other one. Once there in the same column you can move them up or down some to get them closer together. But it forces some distance between them. About the height of a small painting is as close together as you can get them.

Thanks Grimsoul, I'll try that next time I play. Maybe I wasn't moving my mouse far enough!

It works with that sun sculpture located in "wall decorations" as well.

Doesn't seem to work on windows either.

Unfortunately, no.  Doesn't work with curtains, either...and some could really used to be adjusted.

Breaks your heart, doesn't it?  I know it did mine.

For anyone in the UK with the same Keyboard as me I can use the ;: and #~ Keys to change the height of pictures. (Either side of the @ Key) I don't think it works for the US though. I found Keyboard Shortcuts for it on mine so maybe there are ones for the US, I had to hold the picture when pressing the buttons though.

How do you move a picture up or down on a wall, I know the ability came out with one of the expansion packs (Late Night?), but have yet to use it, or even know how to.  Is it a cheat thing? or a normal function?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure your painting is in an acceptable location to be hung - so not right over a window, for example.
Click and hold the Left-Mouse-Button.
Drag your mouse upwards or downwards. The picture's height will be adjusted.
