Title: The Banwell SimTech Dynasty: Complete (3-Dec)
Post by: Granny Lawlor on September 18, 2023, 12:50:29 PM
The Banwell SimTech Dynasty

These settlers are known as Chad and Hill. Their family name will be Banwell, after the place where they settle, but they don’t really know that yet so we’ll stick with Chad and Hill.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad and Hill have travelled far from the Sub-Saharan area from where their ancestors came but they still have ancient dreams of the desert. They travelled looking for a place with food and shelter from the weather. A place to be safe from other people who regarded the travellers with suspicion. The journey was not without perils, some of which left their scars. Finding a cave near a source of fish and fruit and no nearby inhabitants, they decided to settle. This is their story.

Banwell Through The Ages: Background To Choices

Appearance

Meet Cheddar Man, the oldest almost-complete skeleton of Homo Sapiens ever found in Britain dating to around 10,000 years ago – the Mesolithic era. He was found in Gough’s Cave, part of the Cheddar Gorge system of caves, somewhere I have visited.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The model of Cheddar Man rendered by Kennis & Kennis Reconstructions features in the Channel 4 television documentary The First Brit: Secrets of the 10,000 Year Old Man © Tom Barnes/Channel 4

DNA extracted from the skeleton suggests dark skin and blue eyes and more akin to sub-Saharan areas than previously expected. It seems the lighter (water-proof?) North European skin took longer to manifest in response to the lower light levels. The hair suggested is dark and wavy.

Information taken from the National Museum Website (https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/cheddar-man-mesolithic-britain-blue-eyed-boy.html)

I have tried to replicate Cheddar Man’s high cheek bones and narrow chin. Hill was actually a female twin of Chad but then I removed that relationship.

Names

As Cheddar Man was found in Somerset, UK, I searched for the names of early settlements in that area. Banwell Camp provides a suitable family name that will last through the eras of this challenge.

Ancient English names that have survived to modern times include Chad and Hilda.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad is similar to Cheddar and can be traced to the Old English name Ceadda and means "protector" or "defender." It can be traced back to the 7th century St Chad of Mercia. Less popular in England in recent generations, it is now seen as the epitome of a surfer name.

Hilda was my beloved grandmother’s name. She appears as a 2 year old on the 1901 census but it took me ages to find because she had been shortened to Hill, an appropriate geographical name for a cave-dweller. It was a popular name earlier than the 7th century. Germanic in origin, it literally means “battle woman”. I do wonder if my oh-so-gentle grandmother knew that!

Seasons

The seasons are set, by the rules, to be 4 weeks long. Being in a temperate weather region with just a cave or tent made it sensible to choose Summer as our starting season. The 2 published SimTech challenge stories by oshizu (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=31648.msg504774#msg504774) and sdhoey (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=31688.msg505209#msg505209), both got into the Low-Tech era by day 12. If I can match that, the Banwell family should have nearly 2 weeks remaining of Summer to make the most of their trips to Granite Falls.

I’ve allowed Thunderstorms and Blizzards because they’re fun! Or I’m a glutton for punishment.

I am following the ruleset outlined on this forum - SimTech Dynasty Challenge (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=30441.msg488287#msg488287)

Blizzards and Thunderstorms are set on.

It was created before Infants and High School so things may need to be adjusted as I go along but I'm aiming to stay within the spirit of each era. I will post any adaptations I make here.

Post by: Granny Lawlor on September 18, 2023, 03:46:08 PM
The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 1: Kissing In The Rain
Era: No Tech

Family L-to-R: Chad & Hill
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad and Hill don’t talk much but they manage to communicate very well. With Chad’s romantic nature, Hill’s Allure (from her Soulmate Aspiration) and the location exuding romance, our 2 Founders generally had the same thing on their minds.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Of course, the two love birds had to eat. Chad took on the hunter-gatherer role with relish, except relish wasn’t a thing back then. He loved the outdoor life and made use of the local pond formed by the river. There were 3 great spots from which he could fish. There were frogs to be caught in an old log plus a handy bush for the necessaries. The frogs made Hill smile and, when Chad put them together, they made more frogs.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One day while watching the frogs, Hill realised that she and Chad were like the frogs and were making a baby. Chad was very happy about that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hill was so happy that she started singing. The local foxes had mixed feelings about her efforts but this albino one liked it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Jogging down to the lake each day in the Summer heat made Chad a bit ripe, like the blackberries and cherries he found. But, as he trudged wearily back to his beautiful Hill, he always kept smiling, thinking about how pleased she’d be with the fish he’d caught.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

While Chad would clean off the worst of his aroma, Hill took care of the cooking because she loved her food. She found that fresh fish was really tasty but day-old fish was always disappointing. It filled them up but it didn’t make them happy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The blackberries and cherries did make them happy as long as they didn’t eat too many of them. Hill found that out the hard way.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When a heatwave made their personal odours almost unbearable, they spent time together in the pool, sometimes with and sometimes without their clothes. Nowadays we would describe their times together as “dates” but Chad and Hill only knew the passing of time as sun and moon travelling through the sky. Plus dates don’t grow in Northern Europe.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As the child inside her grew, Hill liked to float in their pool while Chad splashed about. He was getting fitter every day.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One day (Thursday), while Chad was out hunter-gathering…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

…Hill went down into the safety of their cave and let her body do what it wanted to do because she didn’t have much choice.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hill named their firstborn Cherry, after the fruit she loved.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

As the sun set that day, Cherry grew out of her baby basket. Hill kept her close as she carried on with cooking, talking to her all the time. A magical disc appeared every time Cherry was on the ground and disappeared when they picked her up. A bit like the sun and moon appearing and disappearing. It was a time of wonders.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When the rain came, both Chad and Hill got perfectly clean and shared a kiss in the rain before going down to sleep in the cave. Cherry had her own special place to sleep. She preferred to be held all the time and especially when she slept but sometimes her parents needed her to sleep in her special place.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Life was blissful for the little family but it was growing. As was the body and facial hair of our Founders.

Family L-to-R: Chad holding Cherry, Hill

Founders:
Hill
: Creative, Family-Oriented, Foodie; Young Adult (13 days to Adult)
Charisma 4, Cooking 5, Fitness 3, Parenting 4, Singing 3
Chad: Loves Outdoors, Romantic, Self-Assured; Young Adult (6 days to Adult)
Comedy 3, Fishing 8, Fitness 8

Gen 2:
Cherry
: Sunny; Infant (0 days to Toddler)

Aging on Short
Villareal Estate, Windslar, Windenburg
Bracing Breezes, Childs Play, Romantic, Off-Grid, Wild Foxes

Notes

With no waste bin, Chad puts all dirty plates in his personal inventory and then puts them in the public waste bin near his fishing spots. He was going to do that with the “diaper trash” produced by Cherry but it turns out that he can use it as fishing bait! Yay for reducing landfill!

I’ve tried to keep unauthentic things out of the pictures but the inside of the pool is hard to hide. I also took 3 attempts to get the challenge going and some photos from the earlier tries might have slipped in.

I’d have liked a boy for later reasons but Cherry is delightful. Her nappy has leaves on it – what else!

Great start!
Oooh, the Villareal Estate!  I was scouring the screenshots for clues, haha!
Thank the Fates for rain!

As for the pool, can't you enter Build mode and cover the pool's "floor and walls" with appropriately earthy material?
I'm thinking of the "CleanRoom" wall covering and "Bottom of the Basement" flooring, for example, but wouldn't any darkish covering do?
(If it's a pond and not a pool, you can use terrain paint.)

Hey, you might finish this dynasty before you leave for your trip! :)

Great start!
Oooh, the Villareal Estate!  I was scouring the screenshots for clues, haha!
Thank the Fates for rain!

The rain was very welcome. The firepit is outdoors so they do get Uncomfortably Wet but they're happy to be clean. Cherry is just happy to be held which isn't always convenient. I've tried the backpack, deciding it's equivalent to a sling, but her parents only keep it on when moving and seem take her out as soon as they do anything.

I didn't think of covering the pools inner walls! Silly me. Thanks  :)

No-Tech Clothing

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Only one outfit is allowed. It is funny to see the Banwells spinning around to change their outfit and end up looking the same. I could only find cave-dweller cc outfits in non-European animal skins so Hill and Chad are styled in regular Sim outfits, albeit with the masculine/feminine restrictions off. With black skirts and Hill’s terracotta top, they look sufficiently pre-historic.

Cherry
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The towel for a female child is not ideal. In reality she would have worn just a skirt but the game adds a white vest.

Thunder
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Cherry
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The toddler nappy is terracotta and the infant one has leaves on.

All these items are from the regular game with the (many!) packs I have. I thought about CC clothing but decided it wasn't necessary.

Chad’s unkempt hairstyle is actually classed as feminine.

Location

Genetic testing has revealed my personal ethnicity as a whopping 60% from England and Northwestern Europe and I wanted my SimTech Dynasty challenge to reflect that.
Henford-on-Bagley, the archetypical English village, isn’t available until the Mid-Tech era so Windenburg was chosen.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There has been some suggestion that Sims could wade in the river running through the Windslar region (with all the windmills). This was not the case and the waterfall in Sulani is much missed by our stinky settlers. The Crumbling Isle would have been a more authentic European wilderness choice but there isn’t too much anachronistic neighbourhood structure in Windslar and I’ve not seen any pop-up food vans or rinks so far. Summer fruits available in the neighbourhood are Cherries and Blackberries.

There is one main pool in Windslar with 3 fishing points – perfect for the Angling Ace Aspiration (Low-Tech Era) and I tried various lots before settling on the Villareal Estate as being the closest. Even so, adding a pond with fish to the lot was essential as each portion of roasted fish takes a whole fish. It shouldn’t be a problem maxing Chad’s Fishing skill.

All other lots in the Windslar neighbourhood have been razed to the ground. The other Windenburg neighbourhoods have been left intact for now as my Sims can’t visit them yet.

No-Tech Dwelling

The rules say to start in a 40*30 lot or larger and, once the dwelling is built, to reduce funds to 0. As this forms the foundation on which to build their assets, I took the decision to spend the full amount of the starting funds. Thus, when it’s time to relocate for the Low-Tech Era, Chad and Hill will have the maximum possible.

I like using tents but using the alternative of a basement “cave” allows the placement of a WC. It’s off-grid so gathering water is a regular task but it makes life so much easier than the increasingly smelly bushes. The basement is also helpful as shelter from thunderstorms. One problem I have been having is being unable to do Tummy Time with an Infant in the basement. Apparently the game thinks they’re underwater!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I basically put lots of trees around the access so the access disappears in most shots. There’s a swimming pool, for hygiene and fitness, surrounded by shrubs and the crucial but dangerous firepit.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

A pond, or should I say lake, takes up most of one side of the lot, providing a barrier to visitors, a source of water, fish and frogs plus a very slow means of hygiene if the Sims play in it.

Lot Traits: Bracing Breezes, Romantic Aura, Childs Play
Lot Challenges: Off-Grid, Wild Foxes

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 2: Infantasies

Previously at Banwell Camp: Our Founders Chad and Hill settled on the Villareal estate and started making babies. Chad started hunter-gathering and Hill started Singing. Infant Cherry arrived and another baby was on the way. The adults got very hairy and everyone got very smelly.

Era: No Tech

Life was hard in the Banwell Cave. Hill aged Infant Cherry up into an Angelic Toddler and then went straight to bed. As with the previous pregnancy, she was uncomfortable and nauseous most of the time. Cherry watched her Da modify her Infant bed so that she could sleep in it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It was very difficult to get anyone anything less than stinky. Playing in the little pool helped but not much. It was fun though, especially with the strange bird that was always there.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Early Tuesday morning, Cherry’s baby brother was born. She couldn’t decide if she was most upset about that or scared of the storm he brought with him. He was named Thunder which some might say was auspicious of something but we’ll not worry about that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Despite not being pleased to have Thunder arrive, Cherry entertained him with her dancing and singing. Did he like it? No-one knows. But he didn’t cry while she did it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When Thunder aged up to a Wiggly Infant, Cherry decided enough was enough and took matters into her own hands. Resenting the attention lavished unnecessarily (in her opinion) on her noisy brother and becoming uncomfortably smelly, she took off the little wrap that she wore and went wandering. Her parents, I’m sorry to say, did not notice and so Cherry’s manners were not corrected.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This fox, Two-Paw, does not like Hill singing to it. Which is a shame because she is getting better. She wasn’t concentrating on her Singing much until she realised that her growing Cooking skill is currently irrelevant despite the fact that it was feeding the family! Chad has maxed his Fishing which was a great cause for celebration and more singing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry wanted more of her Ma’s attention but Thunder was awake. Whilst he didn’t like being held, he did want company. Hill told Cherry to follow her to the firepit and she would chat with her while she was cooking.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fortunately Cherry took a while getting up the steps because her Ma got burned while lighting the fire. Thunder, in the backpack didn’t get burned. Cherry thinks she’s glad about that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I’m sorry to say that someone called the Repo Man appeared on Thursday. It was thought that they might not so Chad had ignored the strange white stuff in the post on the corner of their camp. As it happens, frog breeding and digging have provided a small nest egg to buy a new (long drop) toilet and a firepit. How could he take the firepit? He rubbed his hands as he did it! Sadly Chad had been in an exhausted sleep and did not rouse to fight the Repo Man.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad was cross that he hadn’t lived up to his name’s meaning “protector” for his little family so he jogged it off with Thunder on his back. Thunder seemed to love the jogging and Chad maxed his Fitness. We are all very happy again. Chad does tell jokes when he’s happy but he gets dangerously Playful and so he doesn’t do it too often.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

With no way of choosing when to age-up anyone other than Nooboos and Infants, Cherry aged up to a Creative Child just after Thunder aged-up to a Toddler. Upstaged by her brother one more time, Cherry was sad that no-one seemed to notice. But her Ma gave her a frog and apologized smoothly and that seemed to make everything OK.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry relished her new responsibilities. She gathered water, dug for fossils and she could even roast fish she started catching if someone else lit the fire for her.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Letting Cherry take on some of their responsibilities, Chad and Hill found time for some extra-curricular activities…

Notes

I was hopeful to get into the Low Tech Era in this Sim week, following the success of others, but I hadn’t factored in the demanding Infant stage. They achieved a lot of Social Milestones but their parents just don’t have the time or energy to do much Tummy Time. Toys and the playmat aren’t available so Fine Motor Skills aren’t developing either. Having back-to-back babies to delay Hill’s aging just isn’t practical!

Cooking is not a relevant skill for the No Tech Era. It’s possible that feasting on fruit wasn’t a problem previously but now, if they eat too much, they get stomach ache. Roasting fish builds Cooking skill and I’ll have to start Chad cooking instead of Hill to avoid her maxing it before they go into the next era.

Thunder looked very like Cherry did as an Infant and his default Toddler hairstyle was just right.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry’s default hairstyles have needed changing each time. She looked lovely as a toddler with a headscarf and had a pinned back ‘fro as a child. Still, she can still work her unkempt styles.

Awww, I can see how your "reach x milestones in each category" rule for infants in your RDC wouldn't work for your SimTech Dynasty.
Since infants didn't exist at the time of SimTech's launch and the rules aren't being updated anymore, you could have just immediately aged the infants up to toddlers for the NoTech era.

I can't believe the Repo Man visited the Banwells when the family is already living from hand-to-mouth.
How could they not be able to pay their bills with the Off-the-Grid lot trait doing away with utility bills?
Were their bills high due to price of the lot? Their Repo Man is a heartless cad!
The Repo Man has never visited any of my sims.  I'm feeling rather slighted!

Look at Cherry, being so diligent and responsible while her parents slink away to try for another baby!

I didn't even consider skipping the Infant stage! Silly me. Still, although it's amazingly time-consuming, I do like the Infant stage so probably would have decided to go for it anyway. Having said that, I really hope we get into the Low Tech era before another Infant is on the scene!

I hoped the adults could use the packpack option for more activities but they put Infants down to do fishing & cooking. I'd like to get a shot of them harvest from trees with a backpack on but the cherry trees are the furthest. Maybe in the next Era when we can start a garden.

I'd read one post on the Simtech topic where the Repo Man had never turned up so the Banwells just ignored the $263 bill. I'd never seen him before with his High Tech vacuum so it was interesting. He came on the Thursday after thae Monday bills arrived. Chad and Hill will be paying the bills from now on.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 3a: Green Living

Previously at Banwell Camp: Founder Chad was as good as it gets at Fishing and Fitness. Founder Hill produced another Nooboo called Thunder, a brother to Cherry who is now a Child

Era: No Tech
Family L-to-R: Cherry, Chad holding Thunder, Hill
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Villareal Estate, Windslar, Windenburg
Bracing Breezes, Childs Play, Romantic, Off-Grid, Wild Foxes
Season: Summer (3/4)

Hill worked very hard in this episode and also spent a lot of time asleep. Her body told her that another baby was on the way by making her sick, very tired and needing the long-drop toilet a lot. Fortunately, the long drop toilet was in the cave near the bed. Chad took over the cooking with Cherry’s help to give Hill time to rest. He also kept an eye on Thunder although Hill insisted that Parenting was mainly her responsibility. Chad didn’t argue but just got on with whatever was needed. He aged up to an Adult on Sunday. Cherry gave him a birthday frog that she’d found in the pond. It was one he didn’t have so it made him happy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Every day and sometimes twice, Cherry would go to their pond. She would gather water to throw down the long drop toilet, look for frogs and then play in the water for a while. She did feel a bit cleaner afterwards but then she always fished after so she just got smelly again. Especially in the heatwave that lasted 2 days. She started putting her frogs together and making more frogs.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ah! A rare photo with all the family. Cherry is there, floating in the pool. Chad is playing with Thunder to the beat of Hill’s singing. Why were they out at night? It was still hot at night but they spent the day in the cave, sheltering from the heat.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hill loved to teach both Cherry and Thunder about saying Please and Thank You. She and Chad had really only just begun saying it themselves but she wanted her children to start doing it too. This was just before Thunder aged up to an Outdoor Loving Child on Tuesday afternoon

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

On Wednesday evening, when the cave was very dark, Hill gave birth to another daughter and they named her Bluebell after the only local flowers. Hill lavished care and attention on little Bluebell and became the best at Parenting. She was very tired though and apart from breastfeeding Bluebell, Chad took over the bulk of the parenting duties. Cherry and Thunder were not happy with the new addition but Chad explained to them that all children are precious and that their family must be strong together. Cherry had heard it all before. She napped on the stones near the fire as either her Ma was Singing loudly, talking to the shiny wall or Bluebell was crying. It was too noisy to sleep in the bed there.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

When Bluebell aged up into a Calm Infant at noon on Thursday, Chad brought her up to join them by the fire. Fortunately the heavy rain had stopped and the lightning had rumbled off somewhere else. Hill sang wherever she was but was also still very tired from the breastfeeding. Eventually, on Thursday afternoon, she was the best singer ever!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hill lavished Chad with compliments and sweet talk. She brightened everyone’s day and she talked to the shiny wall in the cave, a lot. Eventually, very early on Friday morning, she realised that she could charm anyone she liked and that was the end of this Era!

Thunder: WigglyInquisitive Loves Outdoors Child (4 days to Teen)
Bluebell: Calm Infant (1 day to Toddler)

Notes

Apologies for all the dark images. These were the best of the bunch. With 2 days of heatwave and 2 days of thunderstorms, being outside was hazardous. The cave, without the benefit of candles (Low Tech), is pitch black at night and only dimly lit from the entrance during the day. It does mean that the green aura surrounding all but Bluebell is less obvious.

A mirror is allowed in No Tech presumably for changing outfits and calming down when hysterical. Cave dwellers would have seen their reflections in water so it fits, sort of. I dubbed it the shiny wall and it was crucial to maxing Charisma.

I’m not entirely sure whether Hill’s constant tiredness was due to breastfeeding. That would be true to life but I’d not noticed it in-game before.

Bluebell is adorable and Thunder is good-looking. I keep wanting to call him Thunder Child like the ship in War of the Worlds that tried but failed to defeat the Martian invaders. I’m resisting that urge. I can’t wait to see Cherry spin into a teen!

Roll on to the next Era – Low Tech – with bathtubs and sinks (shivers with delight)! The Banwells will be staying on the Villareal Estate but there must and will be some changes. Their neighbourhood can have a park and they can travel within the neighbourhood and make an expedition to Granite Falls

Title: Welcome to the Low Tech Era
Post by: Granny Lawlor on September 22, 2023, 03:37:10 AM
Low Tech Era

The Low Tech Era ruleset can be found here (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=30441.msg488289#msg488289)

I’m keeping the Banwell Camp on the Villareal Estate and basing dwellings, clothing and the park on Roman Briton, roughly AD43 to AD410. Men worked the land or in trade. Women ran the home. Patriarchy was the order of the day. Children could be married from the age of 14. Boys of wealthy families would be taught Latin and wrote on wax tablets.

Appearance

I have lightened the skin tone of all the Banwells. It is thought that this developed over many generations, not possible to replicate in this challenge, to get more vitamin D from the weaker sun and that it happened with the move to arable living.

Hill, now Hilda, and Thunder have been given red hair and green eyes. Bluebell has kept her dark hair but got green eyes. Chad and Cherry’s hair and eyes remain the same.

This is all to reflect a more typical Briton from this era. I’m not planning to change them for future eras.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clothing

I’ve kept to Sims provided clothing using mostly neutral shades so there are some compromises. Red, blue and purple cloth would have been the reserve of the wealthy. Clothing was mostly long dresses for women, tunics and leggings for men. Our family is allowed one extra outfit for formalwear, shown below. Infant Bluebell will stay in her leafy nappy. I don’t think onesies were a thing back then.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Buildings

Our family would have lived in a wooden house with a thatched roof. Many native Celts favoured the round house style, possibly to reflect their belief in a disc-shaped world, and I’ve reflected that in the shape of the main roof, extending it over the plant area. The actual building is an 8*8 square as given in the ruleset and also reflects the Roman preference for right-angles.

I have built a fence to protect the items and livestock from marauders and predators. Rainwater catchers are not specified in the rules that I can see but rainwater harvesting and windmills go back millennia. Windmills are unnecessary for no electricity is required but I have added a water collector at the back of the dwelling. It looks at odds with the era but it’s functionality is valid for the Off-Grid trait.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Inside would be one room centred around the grill. I have put that outside for safety reasons. The toilet would have been in an outhouse so I put the door outside to stay within the 8*8 restriction. The bath would have been in the main room but our Sims delicacies would baulk at that. Everything allowed has been added.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I’d like to have the Simple Living Challenge set but only a grill for cooking makes that impossible. Chickens for fresh eggs and (whisper it) meat, bees for honey & wax. If I can work out how to buy them, a pigmy goat and mini sheep for milk and wool.

The cave is no more. It was filled with broken items and the remains of all the roasted fish, all waiting to be found by latter day archaeologists.

Living in Cheddar, Somerset the nearby town of Aquae Sulis was famous for its baths hence its modern city name of Bath. This is represented in the neighbourhood Park.

I found a lovely Roman Spa by Kauleto97 in the Gallery. I had to take out the spa bath, the massage tables and chairs and replaced them with a swimming pool, yoga mats and cushions. A hot spring bath might have been in keeping with the Roman baths available but not in keeping with the Park designation. The showers in the basement were also removed. I won’t be able to tell if I’ve removed every disallowed item until I’ve played it. I have clunkily added grills, swings, a pond and some climbing equipment.

Building it on the Von Haunt Estate, which has a special lot category, means it won’t be flagging that there are no chess tables as required by a Park.

I can tell you're having fun with capturing the historical elements of each era.
As for pygmy goats and sheep, can't cut yourself a little slack by buying the Hay Now! Animal Feeder in Build Mode then clicking it to call the Ranch Animal Exchange?
I realize the Banwells shouldn't have phones yet, but they can pretend they're communicating by carrier pigeons?
Um, did the Roman Britons use carrier pigeons? LOL

The Roman Spa looks amazing!

Oh yes, that's a good way to get the animals. They would have had markets so that's a valid justification. It seems to me that if they could have sourced items in those days then it's OK to work the system a little bit to get them. They have to travel using the phone...

The spa is lovely although adapting it made it less so. Sadly i can't find any dig zones or plants on the van haunt estate so travelling there isn't the bonus I was hoping for. I'll get back to you on the carrier pigeons  ;)

Regarding the Von Haunt Estate, I just loaded an old save and found the garden area.  View the Von Haunt Estate with the wedding arch considered due north.
South of the maze, you'll see two pools and the garden area is to the west of the pools.
There are fruit trees (apple, cherry, pear), plus sage, basil, parsley, carrot, strawberry, potato, spinach, bluebell, blackberry, and onion.
Maybe you could take cuttings to splice onto your existing plants?
But no, no dig sites. :(

Looking forward to seeing the pygmy goats and sheep on the Banwell's growing home!

I did not see any of those! I got disheartened after searching for a while and then must have given up before finding them. I should have done a bit more research.

Still, Thunder enjoyed playing on the old wreck (dragged out of the lake?) and swinging from the beams of an old ruin (monkey bars). They had those sort of things, right? Lol!

They're currently making the most of the last week of Summer in Granite Falls so re-searching the "park" and getting more livestock will happen when they get home.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 3b: A Whole New World

Previously at Banwell Camp: Little Bluebell joined the family and on Friday Hill got super good at Charisma, having already maxed Parenting and Singing, thrusting the Banwell Family into an new Era of Low Tech

Era: Low Tech
Family L-to-R: Cherry, Chad holding Belle, Hilda, Taranos
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Villareal Estate, Windslar, Windenburg
Good Soil, Homely, Great Acoustics, Off-Grid, Wild Foxes
Season: Summer (3/4)

Hilda: I found out that my full name is Hilda of Banwell. Hilda means “battle woman” which is why I got the first bath. We all gathered water before going in but I made sure I got in first. Chad went next and was so tired that he fell asleep in there. We have decided to change Thunder’s name to Taranos, a good Celtic name also meaning “thunder”. Bluebell has become Belle. Whilst we treasure our history, we want to settle into our new Era. Cherry and Chad are good names still.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: I may have fallen asleep because it was so dark. We repositioned one of our precious candles closer to the bath tub but Taranos also fell asleep in there. The new hen, which he had just fed, followed him in. A fox came sneaking in as soon as we got the chickens, two hens and a cockerel, but this chicken fought him off. Maybe we should call her Hilda.
Hilda: I do not think so. We shall call the brown hen Minerva, the black hen Diana and the cockerel Jupiter after the gods of war, the hunt and thunder that the incoming Romans want us to worship in their cold stone temples.
Chad: The Romans might think us sacrilegious for naming then so.
Hilda: We can tell them we mean it out of respect. After all, they have brought us the bathtub.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Babble
Chad: That is right, little one. Your Da is burying this bluebell, not you. Then I will bury the grapes.
Belle: Wail
Chad: I’ll get you back to your Ma for some milk.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Happy birthday, Cherry. This is for you.
Cherry: Another birthday frog for my collection? And this one is a valuable Sunsurfer. Thank you so much Ma.
Hilda: Would you like to start collecting other things?
Cherry: Yes, I want to explore nature as much as possible and complete our frog collection. I know you and Da are now Soulmates and you are the best at Cooking but what do you want to do now?
Hilda: I need to find you a husband and soon find a wife for Taranos. If I make lots of friends, I should find the right people for you.
Cherry: A husband? Oh!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Thank you for looking after Belle while your mother gets clean in the facilities here in the forest.
Cherry: It was easy.
Belle: Babble
Chad: You will soon have children of your own. You will make a good mother.
Cherry: Husband? Children? Oh! I think I will go for a jog to clear my mind.
Chad: Could you put Belle on your back to jog with you?
Cherry: Apparently not. Sorry Da. It’s lovely here after that long trek we’ve made to get here. I am glad we came. Now, let me see what I can collect.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Da, Cherry says we are to find people for us to marry.
Chad: Not yet son. But soon you will be a Teen, ready to take on a man’s responsibilities. Like fishing.
Taranos: I like fishing.
Chad: Me also. Although I would like to find at least 4 more fish that I have never caught before. This is much better than looking after babies.
Taranos: You do know that Belle is asleep on your back, Da?
Chad: Oh yes! I had forgotten. Watch her while I run to use the bathroom. I think she’s about to age up into a Toddler.

Notes

Young Adults and Adults can carry Infants in the backpack while they walk, jog, cook on a grill (not the campfire), fish and garden. Most other times they will put them down first, not necessarily in the best place. Chad wanted the bathroom at Granite Falls and left Belle where he had been fishing before running halfway across the site to relieve himself! Teens can’t put Infants in a backpack.

Cherry’s regular outfit matches her mother’s but in green. Her formal dress is a draped affair, cinched in with a clasp. Belle’s is a tunic dress with leggings. I’m only showing the formal outfits as they will hardly ever be seen. The day-to-day ones should appear in the photos. I could get them to change to formalwear for trips to the Park but I’m often too distracted but the tasks.

Such beautiful children and they are growing so fast!
I'm really curious how the household will change as time passes!
I don't remember the dynasty rules at all.  No Tech is short lifespan, then you're Normal lifespan until High Tech?

The lifespan rules are as follows:

Short for No Tech & Low Tech
Normal for Mid Tech & More Tech
Long for High Tech

I've got timelines going on in a spreadsheet to avoid going into High Tech with children. I remember reading of your frustration that the child stage is 8 weeks!
Unlike you, I won't be doing the vampire thing to prolong life. I like all the outfits but the actual gameplay gives me the creeps. I'm such a delicate soul, lol!
I'm not shooting for a "low" score as in the number of Sims who are involved in meeting the requirements. I'm going for a whole family affair :)

Thank you for refreshing my memory on the correlation between eras and lifespan lengths!
I opted for vampires in More Tech solely so that the male founder could live as long as possible.
I'm also not into the running around drinking other sims' plasma, haha. But my sims subsisted on the plasma packs.
Another great alternative is to drink a spellcaster's Potion of Plentiful Needs.
A moddlet solver doesn't refill a vampire's thirst, but that magical potion does.

There are various ways to enjoy the SimTech Dynasty challenge.
callycat completed it with a single sim--I don't have that kind of patience. ;)

P.S. Did you find the Von Haunt garden?

Post by: Granny Lawlor on September 24, 2023, 05:31:43 AM
The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 3b: More Fish

Previously at Banwell Camp: having entered the Low Tech Era and got new clothes and some new names, our family settled into the arable life. They explored the Roman park and made their first trek to the forest

Era: Low Tech
Family from L-to-R: Cherry, Chad holding Belle, Hilda, Taranos
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Villareal Estate, Windslar, Windenburg
Good Soil, Homely, Great Acoustics, Off-Grid, Wild Foxes
Season: Summer (3/4)

Chad: We have come here to meet some potential husbands for you, Cherry. No digging for fossils.
Cherry: I wish I had brought my lyre with me.
Hilda: I cannot see any suitable candidates. This Wolfgang Munch does not seem very nice and he is already an Adult. Such strange clothing too.
Cherry: Well, Ma, I think I will just run on home. There is a spot I did not dig this morning.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Well Chick, you have brightened my day!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Good girl, Belle, sitting on these strange chairs in this strange house. Do not touch anything.
Belle: Babble?
Hilda: These things are beyond our ken. You play with that rattle.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: This forest man is not a suitable candidate for Cherry and the bear definitely is not so I will just ignore them. Now I am an Angling Ace I wish to catch 5 more fish to really explore this forest.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: My fifth fish. I wonder what plants grow in the summer forest. I shall go for a hike.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: That is a good dish that you have cooked. I no longer worry about fires. Taranos will have to learn when he is a bit bigger.
Cherry: Da says that cooking is women’s work.
Hilda: He can say that all he likes. What I know is that, when he is hungry, he is more than capable of fending for himself by cooking.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: These plants are new to me, especially the sage. It is a shame that there are no leaves to harvest.
Mimsy: You can take cutting from my garden if you will? I am always happy to share my handywork. Are you here to visit the temple?
Chad: Oh, I am a native. I do not follow the Roman gods.
Arun: Have you not heard? They only follow one god now and say there are no other gods.
Chad: This is very puzzling and so are your clothes.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One-Paw: There’s eggs. There’s eggs!
Two-Paw: But we can’t go in.
One-Paw: We’re not friends with anyone. The cub is stealing out eggs.
Two-Paw: The male has made this gate so we can’t get in.
One-Paw: I'm sure I could squeeze under it.
Two-Paw: I don’t know but it's just not possible.
One-Paw: Why am I called One-Paw, anyway?
Two-Paw: Because originally we were both called Two-Paw and Watcher was getting confused.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Ow! Right I am going to put this tooth under my pillow and get a sticker, whatever that is. I do hope the monster does not come tonight. I do not like it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Back to the forest and I have harvested 8 different types of strange plants, none of which can be planted. Oh! I wonder what is through this vine. A cave? I remember caves…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Good day. Are you the hermit I have heard tell of?
Hermit: Yes.
Chad: You don’t look very holy. Are you wise, like the Roman priests with their big buildings and strange formalities?
Hermit: Theirs is a different kind of wisdom. Mine involves fishing and exploring nature.
Chad: That sounds like the wisdom I want.
Hermit: A good way to start. Fish with me. And then I will show you where to harvest some mushrooms.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: The hermit told me to try tasting these plants. Ah, that is chamomile and this is, ugh, toxic chamomile. I’d better experiment some more so I can identify the others.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Happy Birthday, Taranos.
Taranos: A birthday frog? How kind. Thank you, Ma.
Hilda: No, silly boy. Cherry likes her frogs. I have knitted you some socks. The wool was a bit stripey and so they are quite eye-catching.
Taranos: They are marvelous, Ma. I will keep them for best.
Hilda: I can teach to you knit if you like. I know you are Creative.
Taranos: I thought I would continue with my violin.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Really? I would say “get a room” but we only have one room if we do not count the privy. Ah, I know. GET A TENT.
Hilda: Mmmm, good idea.
Taranos: Thank you, son.
Jupiter: Squawk

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Well, Hilda was very affectionate yesterday. It has put a spring in my step. Even the bees seem happier today.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Can I have a word, Chad?
Chad: If it is about the goat and sheep then, yes. I only need to trek to the forest one more time so we will have time for more livestock.
Hilda: We may not have more time, dearest man. I am with child again.
Chad: Another child to bless our home. That is much better than goats and sheep.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: I do get lonely with no-one my age to be with but this camp fire makes me happy and I love playing my lyre.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Happy Birthday, Belle. If you wait while I finish this campers stew, I’ve got a frog for you.
Belle: That will not be necessary, thank you anyway. Ma has given me some stripey socks. They are more than enough.
Cherry: Suit yourself. Still, if you ever have time to look for frogs, I really want to find one with whirls on.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: These are such pretty butterflies to add to my collection. I am glad I can keep them in terrariums and not stick them to frames. They are so much more beautiful alive.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: What are these?
Taranos: An experiment. Minced beef in a small loaf. What do you think?
Belle: Mmm. Good but I think they could be loaded with…..lots of other things.
Chad: It is good to be able to cook, son, but you do not need to do it much. I do need you to find a wife.
Taranos: I have been looking, Da. I promise I have.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Ah, the peace of the night. Well, Reflection, how are we going to find that special someone.
Reflection: There are lots of fish in the sea.
Taranos: Sea? What is this sea of which you speak? I must go there.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: I do not know how to get to the sea but the strangely-dressed people here like my violin playing.
Cherry: And my lyre playing. We have made several coins.
Taranos: No people our age though.
Cherry: Thank goodness.

Notes

Despite setting the park (Von Haunt estate) as a Teen Hangout, not one teen has graced our paths. They don’t come past the house either. There used to be children wandering past but that was in the No Tech Era when the family had to avoid everyone and Gen 2 weren’t old enough to justify finding a spouse. Finding a spouse might have to wait until the next era when they can go to school.

Thanks to @oshizu  for pointing me in the direction of Mimsy’s garden to the side of the Von Haunt Estate. I’ve not been there over the magic 4-7am period so there may be harvestables then.

The Roman emperor Constantine adopted the Christian faith in the 4th century and rolled it out across their empire. Some would say it was a political move to control the empire which previously disagreed over which of their many gods should be worshipped. When the Romans gave up Britain, the locals adopted a more nature-based way of viewing the Christian God.

I’m hopeful of getting into the next Era in the next episode. Hopeful but a little sad. I do like the simplicity of the life style. If there were some teens around I might be tempted to draw it out. However, the next Era goes to a Normal Lifespan so Chad should have a bit longer before reaching his Elder years.

Such beautiful children!
What about Lucas Munch?  Is he already too old for Cherry?
I have never gotten that Teen Hangout lot trait to work for me.
Trying to remember to spawn random children when my own sims are that helps to increase the later teen population.
That, sadly, will not work for Cherry but will perhaps benefit Belle?

You are really enjoying the Low Tech era. It's a pleasure to read, too!

Oh yes, Lucas could be cute...

Wolfgang is definitely not an option although his bad boys looks might really rock the outfits for the next Era. He will become my nemesis if he worms his way into 2 of my stories, back-to-back! He's a member of the Knights club who hangout at the Von Haunt Estate They must be a bit confused over the lack of chess tables (Mid Tech).

It's been fun to use that lot as a Park and it definitely meets the requirement of being in the neighbourhood but takes them to a different area. However it's got its own special non-changeable lot type. Another lot with the proper Park designation would have encouraged the spawning of kids and teens. They just don't seem to turn up here.

I've had the Teen Hangout work for a residence before but they walk along playing with their mobiles so I didn't want it.

I am enjoying Low Tech and I'm pleased that comes across in the story  :D

Can your Banwells travel anywhere in Windenburg?
There's the little park between the coffe shop and the Pan Europa Disco, where the Garden club hangs out.
(Lucas belongs to that club...)
It's quite smol compared to most of the other parks in the game, but it's still a park. ;-)

Ah - sadly I'm limited to the Winslar region for now. Next Era I can travel anywhere in current world. Ah, if only Cherry can complete one of her collections soon...

I've never tried completing the frog collection without access to the ponds at Desert Bloom and Magnolia Blossom.
Sulani has the two local collections which are time-consuming but doable.
Er, no Easter bunnies and decorative eggs in Winslar?
Hey, what about the Plushies?
I was going to suggest getting a dog/cat, but you can't visit places for chasing feathers. :(
*whispers: When was the microscope invented?

Ironically in looking for the necessary crystals and fossils, I only need a few more anachronistic MySims trophies! The fossil collection is not far out of reach.

As you found, taking the family to Granite Falls before school starts gets around the Responsibility drop. There are a smattering of sites there plus some frog logs.

If only I had a kleptomaniac sim...there was a whirly frog in the ranger centre!

It's autumn and we've just celebrated harvest (one holiday allowed). If I had considered an egghunt I might have discarded it for being out of season. Ah - the balance between gameplay and authenticity!

I need to research plushies. I've never collected them before. Ah, no computer to order crackers, drat!
I'll get there...

Best wishes to Cherry and you for her Curator's collection.
I hope I'm not being annoying with all my questions, hehe.
It's fun for me to vicariously re-imagine how I might've played the SimTech Dynasty in a different locale.
Unlike an RDC, the SimTech Dynasty isn't a race so you can enjoy making design choices about builds and wardrobe :D

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 5: The Search Continues

Previously at Banwell Camp: Having become an Angling Ace, Chad decided to explore the deep forest, Taranos became a Teen and Belle became a Good Child. Encouraged by her family’s achievements, Hilda decided there was time for another nooboo

Era: Low Tech
Family from L-to-R: Belle, Cherry, Chad, Hilda, Taranos
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Villareal Estate, Windslar, Windenburg
Good Soil, Homely, Great Acoustics, Off-Grid, Wild Foxes
Season: Summer (4/4)

Chad: This insect repellent will make our treks to the forest more pleasant. I have made a lot for all of us.
Hilda: That would be an improvement. Those bugs know just where to bite!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Hello Houndstooth. Are you hungry? I’ll have to get one of the others to feed and brush you. I can tell you jokes and hug you, if that would be OK?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Thank you for helping me through that delivery. You are such a blessing.
Cherry: A boy! What will we call him?
Hilda: Matthew. A goodly name for our times.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Arun: I have called to see your father. Can I come in.
Cherry: I am sorry but no. Only our family can come in.
Arun: You play that lyre very well. Maybe when you are older, you could become my wife.
Cherry: When I am old enough, you will be older too.
Arun: These times would not discount me on that basis. In fact we could get married now.
Cherry: Oh er I do not think it is possible. Do forgive me.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: And then he said he wanted me to be his wife!
Taranos: It would not be a bad match. Stand still, Champ! He could still give you children.
Cherry: I am too busy collecting things and on my lyre to have children. That is you shorn (sheared?), Houndstooth.
Taranos: In addition to our animal chores.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Happy Harvest. Who would like to light the candles?
Hilda: We are thankful for all the good things we have grown and made. We are thankful for all our Friends of the World. We ask for peace and safety as the days get shorter.
Chad: Oh – someone get Matthew. He has become a Wiggly Infant.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Come here, Matthew. Let us play Peek-a-boo while the others lavish gifts on your mother for her birthday.
Matthew: Coo
Chad: It is your big sister Cherry’s birthday too. She has decided that she wants to have children after all. What a turnaround! It will be your birthday tomorrow. I wonder what you will be like as a Toddler.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Argh! This wax is hot. It takes me 5 candles to get a skill point and those bees only give enough for one candle each day!
Hilda: You do know we can buy more wax at the market, son?
Taranos: Oh. That is good. It will still get hot though.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Come on, Matthew, just let it out.
Matthew: Babble
Cherry: Hm, I think this part of childcare is difficult!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Happy Birthday, Belle.
Belle: Thank you Ma. Oh, these socks are very dotty.
Hilda: Do you not like them?
Belle: Not really, Ma. But thank you anyway.
Hilda: I like your dress, dear but we will have to change it for something that at least covers your collarbones. We really should have our shoulders covered but I can only get enough material for these shift dresses.
Belle: OK.  But can I go and do some cooking now?
Hilda: That would be wonderful. Thank you dear. Your Da will want something when he wakes up in the tent. This has been his 5th night out there. (Outdoor Enthusiast complete)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Please be a new fossil. Please be a new fossil!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Aha! I can not only feed and brush you, Houndstooth, I can shear your wool. Sometimes it is black and sometimes it is white. It is not surprising that Ma’s knitting creates stripes.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Maaike: Good day to you, young woman. Have you seen my house around here, somewhere? I am sure I used to reside here but I must have got lost.
Cherry: I am sorry. There are no other houses here. You know, if you had a softer hairstyle and more flattering clothes, someone might be interested in you starting a dynasty with them.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Matthew: Babble!
Hilda: I know dear. We are here again. But at least the bugs are not biting us.
Belle: Have you noticed that Ma just calls us “dear” all the time?
Taranos: She cannot remember all our names. It is worrying really.
Belle: I have not forgiven her for spending more time with everyone else besides me.
Taranos: Neither have I. She keeps apologizing. The priests teach that we must forgive but it takes time.
Hilda: Ha! Your sister has found her last fossil. We can all go home!

Notes

There was no actual flirting between Arun and Cherry but he stood there for ages watching her play. It was a little creepy.

So many birthdays this week, it was hard to keep track! Although I give the number of days to their “birthday”, without any means to age-up any but babies and infants, they actually get an extra days grace.

The Foodie trait was perhaps not the best trait for a Founder to have and pass on. It won’t be really useful until the More Tech Era when they can become chefs. So far Hilda has passed it on to both Cherry and Belle.

The adult female shift dresses have always been a compromise and as Britain loses the Roman influence, the climate and increased modesty makes them less and less appropriate.

Poor Matthew has been thoroughly over-looked and has barely got level 2 in any skills. Ah well. We are only 2 skill points away from the Mid-Tech Era… I was tempted to extend this update until then but decided to stick with the week updates.

This would have been a lot quicker without all the animals but I do enjoy them. We might go all-out with Simple Living next era...

Congrats to Cherry on completing the fossil collection and The Curator aspiration.  That took persistence!
And now only two more skills points until the Mid-Tech era!
Are you happy to advance in time and technology, Watcher?

I'm so curious about the household will change in the weeks to come.  Who will marry out?  Who will move in their spouse?

Between the start of the new Diablo III season, long work days, and fighting pneumonia, I have gotten woefully behind. But it was such a pleasure to see a new Granny Lawlor story! I love your attention to detail and authenticity. I have really enjoyed reading this all at once. Cherry's advice to Maike was so perfect!

Sorry to hear about the pneumonia. I hope it's all cleared up now. Thank goodness you had Diablo to distract you. :)

Thank for your kind words. It's always a joy to know that others like my stories. I'm really enjoying this challenge. Although there are still restrictions, particularly regarding travel, they get lifted as you get further in.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 6a: Leaving Windenburg

After spending Sunday (their day of rest and New Skill Day) skilling, Chad maxed his Gardening skill just after Midnight – very early Monday morning.

Notes

Although all the males, Chad, Taranos & Matthew, only had 0 days to their birthday 24 hours earlier in the last post, none of them had bubbling age bars. They are now well and truly bubbling! It will be interesting to see how the move to Normal Lifespan affects them.

So it’s time to say farewell to the Low Tech Era and, indeed, to Windenburg. They will still be able to visit Windenburg and Granite Falls but otherwise remain in their own world. There will be a bit of a pause will I re-order their worlds, rearrange their stars if you like :)

A big congrats to the Banwells and their Watcher on earning advancement into the Mid-Tech Era, and with three bubbling age bars no less!
Like you, I greatly love challenges that involve lifting locked restrictions!
Enjoy modifying the Banwells and their simverse to accommodate the new era!

Welcome to the Mid Tech Era

The Mid Tech Era ruleset can be found here (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=30441.msg488290#msg488290)

The Romans had bolstered Britain against the Viking invasions but their departure opened it up to new attacks as it entered the Dark Ages. Firstly the Saxons (northern parts of modern Germany) and then the Normans invaded and conquered it. England variously won and lost parts of what we now know as Great Britain as they fought wars with parts of modern day Europe including the papal state based in Roman. Henry VIII brought England into the Renaissance, threw off Papal control and executed anyone clinging to the Catholic faith. Royal marriages to bring peace or establish allies was commonplace. The genetic diversity of England is well established.

Now we are approaching the end of the Tudor era. Good Queen Bess (Elizabeth I) is on the English throne despite being the 3rd and last child of her father Henry VIII. The owner of the best naval fleet wins the battles and some ships venture further afield to the Americas, bringing back exotic coffee, tobacco, cocoa and the humble potato.

With constant wars and religious persecution, life at court was political and dangerous . Life in the country continued to be arable-based and people eked a living from what they grew or made. Communities were formed and villages became places of celebration and support. The local Protestant church was a place for worship but also for learning and gatherings (rigid pews weren’t put in until the Victorians decided churches were too holy to be used for fun). Local ale houses welcomed bawdy drinkers but decent folk were better served by travellers inns.

An awareness of the arts emerged with plays by William Shakespeare and the local gentry wishing to be immortalised in portraits. Books were handwritten and precious. Telescopes were invented towards the end of this period and one has been added to the Finchwick park/church.

With Elizabeth on the throne, women became more forthright but were still legally very much property of their fathers or husbands.

Banwell Camp has relocated to 2 Olde Mill Lane, Old New Henford and renamed Banwell Farm. Finchwick village will be their local community with a park/church and a shop. Windenburg town will represent court with a museum, gym and restaurant. I will credit the gallery designers of these lots as we visit them.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Granite Falls has become a “chase” or deer park for the hunting pleasures of nobility but commoners may still visit and stay in their hunting lodges. I have replaced the Von Haunt Estate plus the pub and the various dwellings around the Windslar neighbourhood, re-installing the original residents. I’m sorry to say that the Fyres family has been culled. I had the population set to 80 to represent the times and have now upped it to 200. I haven’t edited the high school so our trips with Taranos and Belle will be full of anachronisms.

Pets are now allowed but we won’t be getting one.

Clothing

This is the first time I have imported CC clothing but the Tudor period demanded it. I found designs by two creators CurseForge and Patreon which work well for my plans. I hope the rendering works in play. Women might have played a gentle game of tennis or ridden horses side-saddle but our feisty women dress up as lads, a reversal of Shakespeare’s actors, to get their exercise. Swimming will only be in the local river when it’s warm enough and hopefully not seen by anyone.

Chad: Adult 20 days to Elder (+20)

Hilda: Adult 37 days to Elder (+21)

Buildings

I used the original (unfurnished) Munch house, Coorinberg Cottage as the basis for the half-timbered Banwell Farm. Our family’s existing furniture has been installed where it is still in keeping. A semi-shaded par terre garden has been created for the kitchen garden. Very little funds were left for other garden items or spare furniture. The bills are due on the day they move in and we do not want another visit from the Repo Man.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There is a small set of books, a chess set, an easel and journals; an off-grid stove and ice-box. Fireplaces would be appropriate but I’ll only add this source of danger when it gets really cold.

Challenges: Off Grid and Simple Living
Traits: Good Schools, Great Soil, Natural Light

I truly love your story, @Granny Lawlor. The fact you throw in all these historical tidbits really scratches an itch in me. I love history. I binge-watched Vikings a few years ago with a gaming friend.

Thank you :)
I've been so enjoying the gradual restrictions of this dynasty and really want to capture the ethos of the times within England. We did Viking, Tudor and Victorian history growing up, probably inaccurately as it always is, so I'm trying to do a little up to date research for each period. It made sense to share it so that throw-away conversations will make sense.

A hearty welcome to the Banwells into a new era.

Thanks for the compliments. The Banwells are enjoying swanking around in their new togs.

Ah - I'd better go and re-find the designers on those sites. I found it quite confusing all told but implemented them with no trouble.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 6b: A Country Wedding

Previously in the Banwell household: they spent all of Sunday working on their skills, particularly Chad who maxed gardening and thrust the family into the Mid Tech Era

Era: Mid Tech
Family from L-to-R: Taranos, Cherry, Chad holding Matthew, Hilda, Belle
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Banwell Farm, 2 Olde Lane, Old New Henford
Good Soil, Natural Light, Good Schools, Off-Grid, Simple Living
Season: Autumn (1/4)

Hilda: I can help thee with thy schoolwork, Belle.
Belle: Why are you talking so strangely, Mother?
Hilda: Forsooth child, it is my natural tongue. Art thou quizzing me?
Belle: Never mind.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: It is a book, with words and pictures. It is truly a wondrous thing.
Matthew: ZZZZZZZ

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Can we get something to eat at the ale house, Mother?
Hilda: Nay, Cherry, wouldst thou open us to charges of debauchery? We are here to buy provisions from yon gentlewoman who methinks mayst provide us with a discount.
Cherry: I shall see if any of our neighbours are here.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Good day, sir.
Imran: Hello? You don’t have to call me sir.
Cherry: You are only just a day younger than my mother. I am showing you respect. Why do you have pink paint under your eyes? Are you a jester?
Imran: It’s just something I’m trying. I might stop soon.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: And do you see that one? It looks like the rabbit that visits us.
Imran: I see it. I am enjoying lying here with you.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Did you hear, Cherry was seen lying in the middle of the village with an old man?
Hilda: Twas our neighbours son, Imran Watson. He is younger than us. Truly he would makest a goodly match for our Cherry.
Chad: Marry in haste and repent at leisure, they say.
Hilda: Who sayeth that? Well and we must away to meet with the family.
Belle: I don’t believe it. You want to marry Cherry off like a sack of potatoes.
Hilda: Potatoes are a valuable ingredient, new to these shores. Thou shalt be wanting a husband soon enough.
Belle: I will not!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Wait up, Belle! You can’t go running around alone dressed like that.
Belle: I’ll run where I please and with whom I please!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Thanks for popping round, Elle (Scott).
Elle: Mum says you’re welcome in the ale house any time. It is a respectable establishment. Your mother and sisters would be quite safe.
Chad: I don’t think I’d be safe. You slay me! Will you be my girlfriend?
Elle: Well, that’s bold for you! Yes I will!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Principal: Welcome to Copperdale High. You may find us a little progressive but hopefully you’ll settle right in.
Belle: Thank you. We’ll do our best.
Principal: Now, Taranos. You’re a failing C. Let’s see if we can get that grade up a bit this week.
Taranos: I’ll try.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Good day, Sir.
Thomas: Er hello?
Chad: It’s like this, Thomas. Our Cherry wants a child and that needs a husband. Your Imran seems a likely sort. What do you say?
Thomas: Are you trying to arrange a marriage here?
Hilda: Verily!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Our own wedding is so far back in my memory.
Hilda: Wouldst thou choose to marry me again?
Chad: Twice, Thrice and evermore.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Mother and Father say you will give me a child and we are to be wed.
Imran: How do you feel about that?
Cherry: I really want a child.
Imran: We should probably get married then.
Cherry: Not until I know you can give me a child.
Imran: Oh, that’s not what I was expecting.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: You have strange bedclothes. Will you take the rabbit slippers off?
Imran: Maybe later…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Why, thou are the veriest knave that ever I beheld!
Matthew: No-one remembered my birthday!
Hilda: Didst I not see thee open the knitted llama I made?
Matthew: But no cake.
Hilda: We are arranging to manage future cakes but for the nonce, cleanest up this filth!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: I am with child!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Congratulations, dearest Cherry. You shall wed Thomas tomorrow before the village fair.

As Cherry waited in the village church for her groom, who was literally running late, she spied her sister Belle in a glittering low-cut bodysuit. Her rebellion had reached new heights!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Imran: I’m sorry I’m late, dear heart. Are you alright?
Cherry: I seem to have inherited Mother’s tendency to morning sickness.
Imran: Will you marry me?
Cherry: Definitely.

Belle: Roll up, roll up. Buy my country wares (at 300% mark-up) or tip my brother playing the violin. Either way, we want enough to buy a dragon fruit at the village stall! Plus, vote for my egg and chicken in the competition. They’re the best!

Taranos: This is a strange gathering.
Belle: Yes. I hope I get my sale table back with all its stock…

Notes

Only Hilda will be channelling Shakespeare. I hope it’s not too annoying to read.

All the teens met have a useless trait: Mean, Hates Children, Glutton, etc and so many Children of the Ocean! I do hope Taranos and Belle find the perfect someone each.

Historically, in country areas, it was thought quite sensible to make sure a couple could conceive before sealing the marriage contract. After all, why get married if you aren’t having children? It was a different time. I was seriously in 2 minds about moving Imran in but he is an Animal Enthusiast so will take on that role in the household. He will also attempt the Country Caretaker aspiration which isn't on the ruleset list but it has 4 levels so I'm allowing it.

The family are allowed the Off-Grid Stove but should not be using it electrically. Many more meals are available on the outdoor grill, even with Simple Living on, so most mains are cooked on that. The other issue is that Baking is not an option. Now baking was definitely happening in the Tudor period so I have reached a compromise. I have put a windmill on the roof to generate enough power for Belle to bake things on the stove, getting up to level 3. There are no other electrically powered items and not much power is generated. The only other way to get the Baking skill, allowed in this era, is to buy the exorbitant cupcake factory – out of place in a country farm.

Saturday was a very busy day, wedding, fair, prom. It was unfortunate that I didn’t pack up the sale table before prom started. It and the chicken weren’t anywhere to be seen when they got home from the prom but I’m hoping they’ll turn up soon.

Tudor Park (wedding venue) by YuleNorwood – I had to remove a few radios. I left the dance floor and Sims dance on that without music! I searched high and low for another radio. There was definitely music for dancing in the Tudor times so I was quite pleased that they could.

Congrats to Cherry on her marriage.

With the 26 Sep patch, our sims can now bake cupcakes using the oven, without the ginormous cupcake factory.
Happy baking!

Sorry to hear about the missing vendor table and chicken.  Could they be in family inventory?
Sometimes stuff/entries will reappear in my sims' inventory by revisiting the Finchwick Fair venue.
Fingers crosed for you!

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 7: Don Juan

Previously in the Banwell household: the family established their farm in Old New Henford and arranged a marriage for Cherry with neighbour Imran Watson. Matthew aged up into a veritable knave of a child, according to Hilda.

Hilda: Twas a goodly idea of yours, Cherry, to visit this historical museum.
Cherry: There’s more art upstairs but I can’t seem to get up there. Still, there are 3 pictures down here that I will view.

Susanna: Never mind! Yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.

Cassiel: I didn’t quite follow that but it’s time for me to be off anyway.

Notes

I rarely direct the family to play chess but it is one of the club activities – yes clubs are allowed in this era! It is interesting to see which member has done the most – Cherry! Considering giving birth and breastfeeding, plus maxing painting, she’s been a star so far.

Taranos has not progressed far with his skills but he has other…duties. You might say he’s working double time as he’s helping his mothers aspiration (Big Happy Family) as well as his own. He is looking for long term love really but so many of his paramours Hate Children. Since he’s become Family-Oriented (!) I think he wants a big family.

So far, his best options are:
Elle Scott (teen) Recycle Disciple, Glutton
Cassiel Moon (YA) Loyal, Child o/t Ocean + ?
Siobhan Fyres (Adult) Self-Assured, Ambitious, Insider – yes, the Fyres have re-emerged. I wonder where they are living and if Morgan is around…

Regarding Clubs, I do Rally The Troops every morning to help them go off to school well and get on with the farm chores. I do let them go to bed at night to be more authentic.

The Banwells look so lovely in their period outfits!
I don't mind Shakespearean English with modern spelling.
I'm only glad Hilda didn't speak Chaucerian English in the previous era!
Taranos is so handsome--nobody can blame him for his philandering ways.
(Yes, he must look for Morgan! Imagine their offspring!!!)

I've had a quick peek - Siobhan is living with her sister Morgan in Brindleton- out of bounds for the Banwells. Mid Tech is travel anywhere in home world, Windenburg & Granite Falls.  Other worlds are out, sadly. Still, if Siobhan wandered out, her sister might too...

I'm loving your attention to authentic clothing - especially mixed in with the "modern" look of the townies!   ;D
And Taranos is a hoot! "Wouldn’t you like to see more of me? It can be arranged…" I'll just bet it could!  LOL

I wonder if you could create a club with just the right requirements to bring Morgan up as an addable member to entice her into the allowed world?

That would have been a good idea but I'd got so used to not having clubs, I'd forgotten that strategy,  lol.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 8: Cowplant Mockery

Previously in the Banwell household: Cherry gave birth to Henry who became a Sunny Infant.
Having aged up to a Young Adult and no longer able to court his crush, Elle Scott, Taranos flirted with anyone and everyone while his mother Hilda maxed Knitting.

Era: Mid Tech
Family from L-to-R: Matthew, Taranos, Hilda, Cherry holding Henry, Chad, Imran, Belle.

Season: Autumn (3/4)

Cherry: Can you reach for this? Just a bit further! Well done!
Henry: Coo

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Tiana: I’ve got some Big News to Share.
Taranos: Before you do, I’d just like to say that I’m putting my Serial Romantic ways behind me. I realise I haven’t been treating you with respect and it’s time I thought about settling down with a special someone.
Tiana: You mean…?
Taranos: Yes. Can we just be friends?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Taranos: Elle! Why are you so sad?
Elle: My father died yesterday and my mother has just died today. On my birthday.
Taranos: Oh Elle. I’m so sorry. Hey, why don’t we spend some time together. We can do whatever you like. I really care about you.
Elle: You do? I heard you’ve had at least 3 children by as many women.
Taranos: I’ll do my best by them but that’s all behind me now. I’m here for you.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Elle: This has been a lovely golden date but it’s nearly time for me to go back to my empty house.
Taranos: It’s not quite time. There’s a bit of time for you to answer this question…
Elle: But it’s too crowded in your house. I can’t move in there.
Taranos: You don’t have to. I’ll move in with you. What do you say, Elle? It’s been you for me right from the start.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Yon Scott maid is dressed in strange garb.
Chad: You know she’s not with child.
Hilda: Tis strange but Taranos has blessed me with plenty of grandchildren. He will do well in the village and we can visit him there.
Chad: You know it's our Belle's birthday tomorrow. She will be full-grown and ready for a husband of her own.
Hilda: And Matthew's birthday also. Tis never too soon to look for a maid for him.
Matthew: What?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: It’s like this Mid-To-More: if you would just grow a bit more then I will become a Freelance Botanist. I’d like to do that before my birthday. Cherry is now a Painter Extraordinaire and very good at Wellness. I’m the best at Handiness and Hilda has even maxed veterinary skills which currently seems a bit unnecessary. What do you say?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Imran: I don’t know if goat’s milk will win a prize but I haven’t go a cow to enter. Next week will be outsized veg. I’m sure I could win that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Roll up, roll up. Get your minimally marked-up animal treats here. Come on folks. You know you want them. I may get my dream of being Fabulously Wealthy when tomorrows harvest rolls in but this evening would be even better. Especially as goat’s milk doesn’t even get a participation ribbon.

Notes

Taranos doing double time to achieve Serial Romantic for himself and Big Happy Family for his mother deserved to ride off into the sunset with his first love. I had toyed with him marrying Cassiel Moon to move into the Bailey-Moon residence but Thorne & Octavia had filled it to capacity with babies and pets. When Elle turned up, all grown up and so very sad, there was only one thing to do. I considered trying to get all his off-spring to join them in the village residence but it would have been clunky.

That cowplant – Mid-To-More – has been fertilized, evolved and talked to as much as possible and it’s just been sitting there, mocking me. Very frustrating for a number of reasons.

This episode rolled on to 6am on Sunday when Belle harvested & sold the mornings dragon fruits. We’re off into the More Tech Era to which the women of the household are very much looking forward. There will be a bit of a pause as I dive into the heady world of CC fashions!

Well, that was super quick work of the Mid-Tech era!
I'd been wondering if you'd complete this dynasty before your trip!  :D

I was momentarily sad about Taranos moving out but Matthew is just as attractive without the whole philanderer bit.
Great job getting the whole household to work together, Watcher!

I too was sad to lose Taranos and I felt bad about him having 3 baby-mamas that Hate Children but I might sort that out one way or another if I can.
As you say, Matthew is as dreamy if not more so. If the More Tech Era is as quick as this one, he might stay a teen forever but time will tell.

Yayfor Taranos making off with his first love. It was a very quick Mid-Tech era. Looking forward to More Tech!
Elle isn't the best of Taranos' paramour, being a Glutton, but she was his first crush and she was so sad after losing both parents. There's already a bassinet placed in her home so I'm hopeful of nooboos. Hilda did suggest it to him but he said they weren't ready, lol.

Welcome to the More Tech Era

We are in Britain of the 1920s and early 1930s. World War I is becoming a distant memory although a large proportion of the male population was lost. It seems inconceivable that more war is on the way.

British colonialism has passed its peak and many colonies have been granted autonomy. The rise of Germany and the US has started to overshadow Britain’s place on the world stage.

Women have the vote but are still dependent on male incomes. Divorce and pregnancy out of wedlock is seen as scandalous but becoming more frequent.

The Middle class – professional people – were established in the ambitious moralistic Victorian era with money to afford staff. Despite soaring unemployment, those with jobs are comfortably off. Many households have an electricity supply.

Britain is still strongly Christian but faith is often a purely social activity and restricted to Sundays. Church services are firmly still in the Victorian era and will remain so for some time to come. Schools, orphanages, hospitals and welfare services set up by churches are moving towards secular management.

A new era of home entertainment comes when BBC radio is launched in 1922 and television in 1932. Hollywood glamour is viewed from afar while the British movie industry operates on a smaller budget. Jazz has made its way over from America but thankfully prohibition has not.

Clothing

Women can wear trousers and daringly display ankles with minimal censure. Their hair is often short with Marcel waves. Unflirty Belle has alternate, more masculine attire, a not-uncommon occurrence. Men wear suits most of the time.
Hilda & Chad have taken up golfing, Imran and Matthew are members of the local cricket team and the younger women play a gentle game of tennis.

Feminine CC clothing and cloche hats by Lonely Boy, KiaraZurk, Doubleplumbob and Christoper067. The masculine clothing was from in-game apart from the sports trousers (plus fours etc) by Waxes Nostalgic. All hair styles are in-game.

Buildings

The suburbs are being started with multiples of one design. But those with money can go all out in the latest Art Deco style – clean lines and simple designs replacing the romantic florals of Art Nouveau.

Our family has commissioned a copy of Cypress Gardens, the Spencer-Kim house, to be placed for them, unfurnished, in the Pendula View neighbourhood of Willow Creek. They have moved in with their existing belongings but those will be replaced by a la mode items as funds allow.

All the new Banwell wardrobes are great!
I especially love Cherry's brown outfit with the fur trimming and light turquoise cloche!
I like her flappe-esque outfit, too!
You know that once you start using cc, it's hard to go back, right?

It was impossible to resist for this challenge. I have found a lot of expired links which is frustrating but generally it's a lot of fun.

It won't be necessary for the next/last era but, if I get my act together, there might be a surprise outfit.

You've lured me in this far but no mods. I repeat - no mods!

Bare ankles, bare knees and bare shoulders! Such progress!
You did a beautiful job of outfitting your crew.

I stayed away from cc for a long time myself, but once you start, there's just so much good stuff! I find that I now have as much home cc as I have CAS cc.

Thank you  :)  I have enjoyed looking for just the right things although it is amazing what you can do with the in-game wardrobes.

The separates don't always work with other items which is understandable considering how they're created. So much painstaking work by these creative people!

I'm not planning to keep them in my working folders but I'll tuck they away somewhere safe.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 9: The Cowplant Ate My Ribbon

Previously in the Banwell household: Taranos gave up his Serial Romancing to wed and move in with orphaned Elle Scott. Hilda had her Big Happy Family and the Cowplant More-To-Mid was not cooperating. However Belle was Fabulously Wealthy and we moved to the More Tech Era.

Era: Start of More Tech
Family from L-to-R: Belle, Hilda, Cherry holding Henry, Chad, Imran, Matthew

Umbrage Manor, Pendula View, Willow Creek
Good Acoustics, Good Schools
Season: Winter (1/4)

Cherry: I’ve made a cake for your birthday, Pater, but can we keep it low-key? Imran’s father died today and he’s really sad. So is little Henry.
Hilda: I’ll make a round of drinks to celebrate. I need to practise for my culinary job anyway.
Chad: Ooh – ow! Happy Birthday to me. I’m just glad I get to work from home as a gardener. Lots of naps! Now, where’s little Henry. I’ll cheer him up.
Cherry: No cake for him, Pater! You know how sugar sends him crazy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Who’s Grandad’s special boy?
Henry: Henwy?
Chad: Ooh – look what I found behind your ear!
Henry: Sweetie!
Chad: Sh. Don’t tell your mother.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Imran: I’m so glad I got back from my Athletics job before you blew out your candles. Happy Birthday, son.
Henry: Pfft
Chad: A formal dinner party’s not really the thing for a child’s birthday but, oh, look what Grandad’s found in his dinner jacket pocket.
Henry: Sweetie!
Imran: Just don’t tell your mother when she gets home from painting.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: There are so many puzzles to choose from. I wonder if I can do this easy one.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Finally! You know you could have sped things up so I could work on being Long-Lived before I aged up.
Mid-To-More: Better late than never.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Are you sure this is safe, Watcher?
Watcher: I’m keeping an eye on your energy levels and you can go to bed straight after training. That’s why I put the running machine in your bedroom.
Chad: Yes, Hilda was unimpressed. She’s gone off in a huff to sleep in the tent outside.
Watcher: That’s because she’s having a mid-life crisis. Did you know she’s started breeding frogs as well?
Chad: As long as she doesn’t want another child…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Workout machines in the bedroom. Slaving all day indoors when I love the outdoors lifestyle. I am stressed and definitely not happy. Maybe a cycle ride will cheer me up.
Watcher: I’m facilitating as many of your crises whims as I can. You really need to relax if you want to get that next promotion.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Well done, Cherry. I knew you’d enjoy fishing. I just need to get your mother doing it too. I’m sure that would help.
Cherry: Thanks, Pater. You’re the best.
Chad: What are you going to focus on now?
Cherry: I love my painting career but did you hear about the ancient ruins they’ve found in Selvadorada? Belle says she wants to go investigate. Don’t you think that sounds like an adventure?
Chad: It sure does.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Blah Blah Blah. This new premier is so like the last one. What I want is to go and enjoy the outdoors. When are we leaving for Selvadorada.
Henry: Not until I’ve finished this cross-stitch.
Cherry: You can take it with you.
Matthew: Can’t we go this evening, Mater?
Cherry: You only want to go because you’ve not studied for your exams tomorrow, brother.
Matthew: Maybe! It’s not your call, anyway sis. What do you say, Mater?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Oh yes, I love doing the Rhumbasim. The people here are so friendly. I’m already an expert in their culture.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: An early start and I need to clear these vines. Yes, I’m wearing heels and why not?

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: I have no idea why I’m so flirty because I haven’t even got to the Falls but these flies are driving me mad. Maybe Pater’s Insect Repellent will help.

Cherry: With my Handiness…
Belle: And my Archaelogy…
Cherry: …this temple exploration is a piece of cake.
Belle: Cake? I’m hungry. Have you got any of that cheese stuff?

Hilda: Ah! That trip to the jungle was wonderful. I’m still having a mid-life crisis but I’m very happy to build a Snowpal with you Henry.
Henry: Thanks Granny.

Imran: Look at my pumpkin! Excellent and twice the size of anything else. My Chocolate pie is excellent too while the others are only Normal, including Taranos’ Fish Pie. I’m sure to win first this week.

Notes

I left the box of cross-stitch out because I couldn’t decide who was going to work on it. I didn’t realise they would all take it up, almost obsessively. I have hidden it away in the inventory now.

It’s going to be impossible not to max some extra skills that will not be counted during this era. I should have planned things a little better. Hopefully there will be plenty left for the High Tech Era. Selvadoradan skill is only 5 levels so part of me doesn’t want to count it.

The elusive win at Henford’s Fair – no the cowplant didn’t really eat the ribbon but Imran is feeling hard done by. I was sure that pumpkin would win! Next week is Llama and wool. Looks like our household is getting a llama!

***This will be the last update for a few weeks as I'll be afk. I'll still be able to read and comment on the forum but no updates. The Banwell Household will go into hibernation and dream of distant travels.***

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 10: Llama Dama Ding Dong

Previously at Banwell Manor: Chad became an Elder and then a Freelance Botanist. Everyone got a job, including Matthew and Henry who joined Scouts. Cherry became a Renaissance Sim and went off to explore the jungle with Belle.

Era: More Tech
Family from L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Imran, Chad, Hilda, Cherry, Matthew

Banwell Manor, Pendula View, Willow Creek
Good Acoustics, Good Schools
Season: Winter (1/4)

Henry: Ow Ow Ow!
Watcher: Oh yes, you had that wobbly tooth before I left.
Henry: And put it under my pillow for the Tooth Fairy. Where have you been?
Watcher: Travelling down under – Singapore, Australia, New Zealand – it was great!
Henry: Well we were just fine without you. Let me tell you what we got up to.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Do you remember that the Finchwick Fair stiffed Dad on the giant vegetable first place ribbon? Well, the next fair is for llamas and llama wool. So – meet Dama Ding Dong. Dad’s so obsessed that he’ll pet him in his swim trunks. The pool stays warm in Winter because we’ve got geo-thermal heating but I was amazed Dad didn’t freeze to death.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: We all like petting the animals. This rabbit came to live with us soon after we made friends with some rabbits in Henford. Sometimes it gives us treats for Dama Ding Dong so we can get fun-coloured wool.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Mum celebrated her adult birthday. If she’s going to give me a baby brother or sister, she’d better get on with it. She’s so old now!
Watcher: Hey – show some respect. She’s got plenty of time.
Henry: But Dad hasn’t. He’s really ancient!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Of course, Dad isn’t as old as Gramps. He’s trying to get fit but we all keep an eye on him so he doesn’t get too tired.

Henry: Granny Cherry was struggling with some mid-life crises and was going to her bartending job in a bad mood. She invited her co-workers round to see if they’d help with her promotion but they’re really old too! I hope they help before they pop their clogs!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: I worked hard on my schoolwork. I’m acing it so I’m sure to go straight in at grade B in High School. My birthday’s on Sunday, you know.
Watcher: I haven’t forgotten.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Gramps got too tired and had to have a nap on the couch. He said it was a siesta but he’s fooling no-one. Uncle Matthew thinks Dad should do the Bodybuilder after he’s got Country Caretaker because he’s doing that career anyway.  But Mum explained that Gramps would be safer for longer if he does it. Is that right?
Watcher: Yes. If your Gramps becomes long-lived and we get to the High-Tech era, I think he’ll be with us right up to the finishing line.
Henry: Oh.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Saturday came and Dad gave Dama Ding Dong the red treat. Look at him! What an amazing colour.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Dad tried to bribe the mayor while I wasn’t looking but she wouldn’t accept. He spent some time being friendly with her but, let’s face it. That plain white llama had no chance against Dama Ding Dong.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: So, right at the end of the Finchwick Fair, the mayor awarded the first place to our amazing Llama Dama Ding Dong and Dad finally got to be a Country Caretaker. I’m so glad I stayed up late to see that. Uncle Matthew was less impressed to miss his Prom but he’s got at least 1 more he can attend and I'll be there too!

Notes

Juggling the 2 remaining aspirations with the 5 careers so that I don’t “waste” any (if they get completed in this Era, they won’t count towards the next) is tricky. I think Imran could complete Mansion Baron almost immediately but I really want Chad to complete his Bodybuilder soon. Hilda will complete Master Chef very soon and get the Mixology one as she completes her career. Selvadorada aspirations will have to wait.  It’s not a big problem as there’re a lot more aspiration options in the High Tech era but it feels inefficient.

I actually played this episode before I went on our travels but didn’t have time to write it up. We only got back yesterday and I’m a bit dopey from jetlag so apologies if this episode is disjointed. I wanted to get it done before I played any more. I’ve really missed my Sim family.

Our 6-week trip to the other side of the world was amazing – we usually stay in the UK – and I’m so excited that some of the cultures we experienced will be in the new expansion pack - For Rent. I am very glad to be home, in my own bed and able to see friends and family. Travelling is such a wonderful privilege but there really is no place like home.

Congrats to imran on completing Country Caretaker!
Watcher, do you give your animals the Party Treat before a fair so they'll be Very Happy?
My sims almost always get First Place, except for the Pie Competition.  Stupid pies!

Welcome back to your home.  When you say you missed your sims family, you mean us as well, I hope. :D
May you soon recover from the time difference!

Llama Dama Ding Dong! I LOVE it! So clever.  ;D
And BIG on congrats on Country Caretaker! I had such a time with that one. I thought Mason Cordova would never finish it. Great job Imran! (And Watcher.)
It sounds like you had the trip of a lifetime, and I'm so glad you were able to do that, but I must admit to being very happy to have you back, safe and sound. I can't wait to see how your travel experiences make their way into your chapters and stories to come.

Llama Dama Ding Dong made me very happy but, in my dopey jetlagged brain, I'm slightly concerned that someone else has already had that. If so, I hope they let me know so I can change it.

The Party Treat tip from @oshizu is one I must remember in future to get those elusive ribbons. I do like doing that Aspiration so I need to file that info somewhere.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 11: Dusty

Previously at Banwell Manor: Henry lost a tooth and Llama Dama Ding Dong helped Imran to become a Country Caretaker

Era: More Tech
Family from L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Hilda, Chad, Cherry, Imran, Matthew
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Banwell Manor, Pendula View, Willow Creek
Good Acoustics, Good Schools, Geo-thermal
Season: Winter (2/4)

Dusty: Hi folks. I’m Dusty the Cocker Spaniel, Independent and Intelligent, at your service. This fellow here is my main servant. He’s called Imran and he has a Llama in his pocket. That’s not a euphemism. Apparently my Watcher thinks it’s a good place to leave it for now.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: This old man here is Chad and he’s just become a Body Builder so he should last forever now. He likes to give sweets to young Henry. Where are my sweets? That’s what I’d like to know!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Actually, young Henry isn’t so young anymore. He aged up into a Romantic Teen and the family celebrated with lots of noise.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Henry met Haven Goth at High School and got a crush on her. I’ve no idea what that means.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Then there was another birthday. Hilda became an Elder on the day they brought a tree into the house. No, not for me to cock my leg on. They stuck shiny things on it and sang. Everyone got presents, not just Hilda. Even I got a ball but it wasn’t wrapped up.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Chad and Belle both went to work that day, even though they didn’t need to. They both maxed their careers, whatever that means. Belle decided to continue as a Musician but Chad retired. He gets $720 a day for doing nothing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Imran’s birthday was next. Cherry still loves him even with grey hair. They gaze into each other’s eyes a lot.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: When it was Matthew’s birthday, it was mine too and I became Stubborn. I didn’t get a cake but Matthew did. He didn’t eat any because he became Active and wanted to go jogging. He hasn’t got a job yet. He says he’s saving himself for the final era!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: Here’s me, fully grown, with Imran in his swimwear. He looks a bit scrawny to me but he’s very fit for his Bodybuilder career.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Dusty: All the family take me for walks but Chad has more free time. I do like my walks but I like going out by myself too. Hilda’s still working as a Mixologist but she became a Master Chef on Saturday Night which is a bit confusing.

Not a lot of progress in this episode but lots of birthdays. I’m fairly confident that we should complete 3 more careers in week 12 to get the Banwells into the High Tech Era. Where will they live? What jobs will they take on? Oh, the suspense!

Hilda: Yes, it’s my third Lotto Cocolata. What of it? I’ve got to make drinks for my career and this is my favourite drink. It would be a waste not to drink it. My husband Chad retired last week and I’m still working. It seems only fair that I get to drink my efforts.

Matthew: I’ve got the Indoors Lifestyle so why am I out here jogging the dog?
Watcher: You’re Active. You can’t be an Indoorsy type!
Matthew: Tell that to my stress levels. I’m quite happy working out indoors, thank you very much.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Here you go, lad.
Henry: Gramps! You know I’m nearly grown up now. A bit old for sweets.
Chad: I’ll have it back then.
Henry: We-ell – I could eat it. Just to make you happy.

Watcher: Congratulations, Cherry. Will you stay on?
Cherry: I might as well. I really want to do a new job but it’s just not available yet.
Watcher: Soon – we’re just waiting on your mother and husband.

Hilda: Happy birthday, Belle. You do look fabulous in that work outfit.
Belle: Thanks, Mater, but I do prefer trousers really.
Hilda: When are you going to settle down with a nice man and give me another grandchild?
Belle: Um….
Hilda: Matthew’s as bad.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: I don’t know, Dusty. I’ve had my first death notice and I think Henry will be my only grandchild. Well – apart from the 6 that Taranos had when he was sowing his wild oats, plus Gabriela that he had with Elle
Dusty: Woof.
Hilda: You’re not helping much either. Imran needs to train some misbehaviours out of you but you haven’t even looked at that pile of trash.
Dusty: Woof
Hilda: A household full of Neat Sims and an Intelligent dog. I think Imran will never be Friend of the Animals.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Happy New Year, Taranos. Thanks for joining us. How’s that family of yours?
Taranos: Elle and Gabby are doing just fine. I keep inviting you over but it never seems to be the right time.

Watcher: Ah! At last. Well done Imran.
Imran: Can I retire now?
Watcher: We-ell.

We’ve tipped over into week 13 to reach the end of the More Tech Era and are stepping boldly into the High Tech Era with aging moving to long-lived – shown in the ages of our household above.

Henry is destined to remain a Teen for the duration. Achieving Skills and Aspirations won’t be a problem but Careers will again be the delaying factor for this era.

Before I forget, I love the Llama's name which reminded me of that tacky ole "Witch Doctor" song!
Great job on all the projress, Banwells!
I was so surprised to see the stats and see that the gorgeous Matthew is only Gen2.  Why does he have red hair?
Another question: Why is Imran so emaciated?  It's hard to believe that he's at his maximum body potential when he looks so anemic!
Poor Imran!
Hilda makes a stunning elder!  So pretty!

Haha, the only time I've ever completed Friends of the Animals has been with a raccoon who come with the Mischievous trait.
That has to be my very least favorite aspiration!!!

Best wishes on entering the High Tech era, Watcher!  You've entered the home stretch now!

Moving into the last era, and Henry a teen throughout - so just three generations from start to finish!
Looking forward to High Tech.

Matthew got his red hair when they went into the Low Tech Era. The family's initial coloring came from the Cheddar Man research but the move to a farming lifestyle in the low light country was thought to bring on lighter skin and eye colour. I changed it in CAS at that point.

Chad did the bodybuilder aspiration so he has the maximum body potential.  Imran got to the top of the bodybuilder branch of the athletic career and he seems to be naturally slim. His son Henry seems to have inherited that. Matthew,  Chad's son, is active and has become really ripped with very little encouragement from me, as you'll see in the next episode.

Hilda has been my favourite from the start. She's taken to flouncing about in her elegant dressing gown and drinking Lotta Coclattas. It's my ideal!

Congrats on all the progress!

Henry is a bit lovelorn as a romantic teen. I'm hoping he'll meet a suitable crush soon. His previous one aged up...

Welcome to the High Tech Era

The High Tech Era ruleset can be found here (https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=30441.msg488292#msg488292)

All restrictions are off except:
•   No Vampires – so we’ll just ignore any that happen along
•   No Wishing Well – only in Mid Tech Era

Building

The new Banwell residence is at Sapphire Shores in Sulani to make the most of the warm Spring weather there. It is Modern Luxury Beach House by LoveSimplySim which I downloaded furnished. Various underwater photos and mounted fish were deleted along with the toddler and child items.

Also present is a laundry room. I’d bought the laundry pack for this dynasty, thinking to use it through the ages but I forgot. In the high tech era, the family finally have to do laundry but love their warm clothes.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Clothing

I’ve kept to in-game clothing – no cc – and I’ve tried to reflect each Sims character and their career

L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Hilda, Cherry holding Dusty, Chad, Imran, Matthew
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad has gone into Politics. He’s aware of his age but that shouldn’t be a barrier, right? He’s possibly over-compensating with his brightly-decorated top and landscaped hair style.

Hilda knows what is comfortable and is secure enough to wear it. She no longer straightens her curly hair and enjoys her new career as a Food Critic – let someone else sweat it out in the kitchen.

Cherry has always enjoyed wearing just the right outfit so she’s helping others do the same as a style consultant.

Imran got off his high horse about Freeganism, took a re-traiting potion and became a Geek. All day gaming and programming? Life is good as a Tech Guru.

Belle still dresses individualistically but now she shares that image with others out there on Social Media. She knows who she is and wants the world to know it.

Matthew went all out when he became Active and has the body to prove it. The life of an Astronaut has drawn him in.

And our forever-teen Henry? He does a load of chores each day, including the laundry, before embracing life as a beach bum – in a multi-Simolean residence, of course!

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 13: Technically, Life's a Beach

Previously at Banwell Manor: The family flounced to the end of the More Tech Era in style. The three remaining careers were topped by Cherry (Painter: Master of the Real) on Monday; Hilda (Culinary: Celebrity Mixologist) on Saturday and Imran waited until Monday of week 13 to become Mr Solar System in the Athlete career.

Era: High Tech
Family from L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Hilda, Cherry holding Dusty, Chad, Imran, Matthew
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Sapphire Shores, Sulani
Season: Spring (1/4)

Chad: Come on Imran! You said you’d help me build this rocket.
Imran: I’m just finding my self a new job.
Chad: I thought you didn’t want a job.
Imran: Ah – Watcher had me drink a re-traiting potion so I’m not a Freegan anymore.
Chad: What are you then?
Imran: I’m a Geek and proud of it. You know there are games on these phones? They’re amazing!
Chad: Is that why everyone spends all their time looking at them?
Imran: That and the internet.
Chad: It’s the beginning of the end!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Imran: Chad’s wrong. I know he’s my Father-in-Law and one of our Founders but he’s wrong. Video games are brilliant. And now I’ve got a bit of Programming skill, I can mod them to make them even better. I can’t believe I get paid to do this!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Come on, you people out there. You know you want to follow me! Look! How can you not want to follow someone dressed like this?
Watcher: Um…
Belle: I know. I know. But you sent me to work and this is what they gave me to wear. I think it’s a hazing thing.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: OK. No-one’s going to watch me unless I do something interesting. Time to re-establish my Archaeology skills. I really hope this is genuine. Streaming a significant find live would really up my numbers.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: But I don’t understand it, Uncle Matthew. Dad’s at peak fitness from when he maxed his Athletic career but look at him compared to you.
Matthew: I’m top fitness too, you know.
Henry: But Dad’s so wiry and you’re….well…ripped!
Matthew: I guess it’s all in the genes, lad.
Henry: What about me. What if I get fit?
Matthew: Who knows. It’s worth a shot. Now you’ve taken over the family club from your Mum and got to be Leader of the Pack, you can set us doing anything you want. Keep the oldies off the exercising though. We don’t want to lose them if we can help it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Come on, Dusty, I’ve finished the laundry.  Let’s go for a jog.
Dusty: Woof
Henry: And no getting lost in the undergrowth this time. This extendable lead is only extendable up to a point.
Dusty: Woof
Henry: We just need to stay out of the sun today. I fell asleep while sunbathing and was lucky not to get burnt. Maybe we can do some beach combing later.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: And that’s why we all just need to get along. Sign up to support World United. Every vote counts.
Hilda: Very nice, dear.
Matthew: Great speech, Dad.
Chad: Didn’t anyone stop to listen?
Imran: They will. You’re getting better every time.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Like this?
Cherry: Perfect. Now try a different pose.
Belle: Just make me look good for my profile pic.
Cherry: I’m nearly level 3 photography. I’ll get better with practise.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: Let’s take one together.
Belle: The Banwell sisters still rocking it!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: I know if we can get more people to commit to acts of random kindness, the world will truly be a better place and my father’s dream of a World United will come to be.

Hilda: Oh Gabriella, it’s so lovely to meet you.
Gabriella: People call me Gabby.
Hilda: And I will too. Would you like me to knit you something?
Gabriella: A toy would be great. I’ve got loads of sweaters.
Hilda: And how about this sweetie I found in my pocket?
Gabriella: Yum! Thanks Granny.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: And this is Belle, signing off on her first vlog. My amazing Dad will be upgrading this station soon so stay tuned for even better vids.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Matthew: I wish everyone would stop going on about my body. I like being Active and this is just a side effect.  I’m a creative soul too but no-one comes to listen to my pipe music. It’s lonely being a Musical Genius who’s a hunk.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Cherry: The weekend, finally. I’m so glad to get out to Selvadorada again. I know I’ve got some sort of curse. I forgot to bring the laptop but I’ve heard that statue in the square sometimes cures people miraculously so I’ll give that a go.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: I do hope Gabby likes this octopus. I’ll have to take it over there next week. It’s a bit hard knitting in this humidity but I need a sit-down after drinking that cocktail I made. It made me into a Master Mixologist, don’t you know! I think it’s time to try for Lady of the Knits, now I can sell things on Plopsy.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Drat, the light’s fading. And the drone’s battery is giving up. Time to head for home but I just know we’ll be returning. I wonder what all these artifact-shaped lumps of mud are hiding!

Notes

All the new careers have been chosen to embrace the technologies now available. I’m hoping that all 3 elders will make it to the end now lifespan has changed to long despite Hilda having her first death notice in the previous era.

Hilda maxed the Knitting skill back in the Mid Tech Era but Lady of the Knits requires a Plopsy sale so she’s working on it now. Matthew has moved on to the Extreme Sports Aspiration but we won’t be focussing on that until Cherry completes Jungle Explorer. Dusty continues to be too well-behaved to help Imran complete his Friend to the Animals Aspiration so he’ll focus on his new Geek love of Programming and Gaming. Henry is very busy sunbathing and beachcombing for his Beach Life Aspiration.

Maybe Matthew needs a place on the gallery where someone could download him and give proper appreciation to his . . . . creative talents . . . yeah, that's it.

So much has changed for this family, and they have taken it all in stride and continue to succeed. Well done, Watcher!

The image of hunky Matthew playing a tiny violin! Roflol! He can do it too. He's just focused on the pipe organ at the moment...

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 14: Fortune Favours the Bold

Previously at Banwell Manor: The family all embraced High Tech careers and moved to the warmer climes of Sulani. Hilda became a Master Mixologist; Matthew humble-bragged his way as a Musical Genius and Henry undoubtedly became Leader of the Pack.

Era: High Tech
Family from L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Hilda, Cherry holding Dusty, Chad, Imran, Matthew

Sapphire Shores, Sulani
Season: Spring (2/4)

Cherry: It’s the start of a new week and I’m raring to go.
Imran: Me too. I still can’t believe that I get paid to play games.
Henry: And yet Aunt Belle is better than you at gaming.
Imran: That’s because she livestreams her games to get followers. Why people want to watch other people playing instead of playing themselves, I’ll never know. Anyway, I’m a professional programmer as well.
Henry: You’re not as good as me.
Cherry: Erm – I think we all know you’re getting good at programming by hacking your school grades. Enough, already. You graduated weeks ago.
Henry: But it would be great to get 100% grade.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Huh! Dad told me to sort out the laundry as a punishment for hacking school grades. Like I don’t do it every day anyway.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Passer-by: Was that your father I just saw going into the Geek Con rocket? He’s so brave.
Matthew: Well, yes. But it’s me that’s the actual astronaut.
Passer-by: How many times have you been into space?
Matthew: None, technically. But I really am an astronaut.
Passer-by: Oh – I’m sure you are….

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: What do we want?
Belle: A World United
Chad: When do we want it?
Belle: Now. This is really good coverage. It’s getting me lots more followers.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Ah – a break from chores and I manage to find some treasure. Neat! I wonder where Uncle Matthew got to.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Matthew: Oh that feels good.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Chad: Thanks for the Archaeology lecture. It was really good.
Belle: If you want to know more Dad, you can read the book what I wrote.
Chad: I’ll add it to my list.
Belle: You know you can do Insta-Upgrades now…could you upgrade my drones? I really need them to last longer.
Chad: I’ll add them to my list. The laundry machines come first.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: zzzzzzz – and we didn’t even need me to complete Beach Life, but I have.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: You know, you don’t have to follow me everywhere. There’s other things to do at the Spice Festival.
Cherry: I want a drink too.
Belle: OK but I don’t know what my followers will make of your outfit.
Cherry: They’ll love it. I’m setting a new trend. You should try it.
Belle: I’ll add it to my list.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hilda: Here you go, Gabby. I’ve knitted you a bear. I was going to knit an octopus but that’s just decorative. I thought you’d have more fun playing with a toy bear.
Gabriella: Thanks Granny. You’re the best.

Briceida: You’d think the principal would make more of an effort to dress up for Prom
Henry: Maybe she got caught in a rain shower.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Briceida: Hey take a photo of me with my crown.
Henry: Smile!
Briceida: Why smile when I can gurn!
Henry: You’re funny.
Briceida: People say I’m childish but I just like to have fun. Did you say your family has got a dog?
Henry: Yep. A cocker spaniel called Dusty.
Briceida: Fantastic. I’ll be over to visit this week. I love dogs.

Henry: In for a penny, in for a pound. Fortune favours the bold. Faint heart never won fair lady.
Briceida: What are you on about?
Henry: This!

Notes

We are knocking out the aspirations, all except Imran's Friend of the Animals. The family will continue to work on clearing the remaining 4-level ones as and when but they are no longer a priority. Clearing the 5 skills will not be too hard either.

Belle's not doing too well with her career but the others are doing just fine. Chad and Cherry may even top theirs in week 15! Assuming there are no unfortunate incidents, I anticipate that the Banwells will reach their goal by the end of week 16 (famous last words?).  :-X

The Banwells are up on the gallery now. I'd love to see any of them in your story  :D

I've got my eye on a side character for a new story that will probably start with the new pack. I'm so excited for its release.

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 15: It’s Not Always About You

Previously at Banwell Manor: Chad maxed Rocket Science whilst becoming a Nerd Brain and working on being a Charity Organiser. Belle became an Archaeology Scholar while working as an Internet Personality. Hilda, Cherry, Imran and Matthew also worked on their careers while Henry succeeded in living the Beach Life

Era: High Tech
Family from L-to-R: Henry, Belle, Hilda, Cherry holding Dusty, Chad, Imran, Matthew
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Sapphire Shores, Sulani
Season: Spring (3/4)

Cherry: Ow!
Watcher: Be careful!
Cherry: Why am I opening up all the gates? And why has none of the family joined me?
Watcher: You’re trying to find natural attacks that you can defend against and if the others are here they seem to get all the attacks.
Cherry: A swarm of bees. Ow Ow. Does that count?
Watcher: That’s one. We need another!
Cherry: Maybe next week. I’m done!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Gabriela: Thanks for reading to me, Gramps
Chad: You’re welcome, Gabby. I’m working on my Successful Lineage and you’re perfect!
Gabriela: Thanks.
Chad: Now, if you would just like to do a spot of homework?
Gabriela: Done it already. Sorry.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fan: Oh Oh Oh, I can’t believe you agreed to sign your autograph.
Belle: If you asked me for a selfie, I’d probably say yes…
Fan: That would be too presumptuous.
Belle: No – it would be fine. Really…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: What are you working on?
Cherry: Just a quick sketch. Did you know that Watcher has given me four of these sketch pads.
Belle: That’s because you keep leaving them anywhere and everywhere.
Cherry: You don’t seem to be doing anything.
Belle: Just hanging out, here at the Rattlesnake Bar, just, you know, available, just in case anyone wants a selfie…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Aha! I knew I’d ace Programming before Dad. He burns out too quickly.
Belle: And that is my nephew, hacking his school grades.
Henry: Hey, who are you talking too?
Belle: I’m hosting a 24 hour stream. I’ve got loads of viewers although it doesn’t seem to be upping my regular followers.
Henry: Don’t tell the world that I’m hacking my grades.
Belle: There you are, folks, a regular modern household where you can top your Programming skills by incessantly hacking your high school grades, even after you’ve graduated.
Henry: Hey!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Breaking news, folks. My sister Cherry has just reached the pinnacle of her career as a Trend Setter. Tell me, Cherry, what’s the latest trend.
Cherry: Well, Belle, you can see that the goggles are still in, plus green shades. A less formal top is definitely a la mode. No-one wants to look like they’re trying too hard.
Belle: And what do you see as the next big thing?
Cherry: I’ve moved to a more supervisory role. I’ve got a great team and they’ll be pushing new boundaries every day.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Wow, Agatha Crumplebottom, I do declare you are wearing my style.
Agatha: Agnes was appalled but I like it.
Belle: You really are rocking it. Go Agatha! If any of you out there want to “do an Agatha”, click on the link below to find all sorts of merch.

Belle: A beginner’s guide to Wellness.
Watcher: But it’s coming up as a Charisma vid.
Belle: All I’ve done is a yoga routine. I need a Wellness vid – they’re all the rage atm.
Watcher: Maybe you need to film it at the station.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Matthew: Diddle diddle diddly diddle
Watcher: Amazing toccata and fugue, Matt.
Matthew: It’s getting all those twiddly bits just right…
Watcher: Well done.

Cherry: This is nice.
Belle: I’ve given a shout out but no fans have appeared.
Cherry: They probably don’t want to disturb our peace. Anyway we’re not here for you. We’re here to celebrate my promotion and Matthews Pipe Organ skills.

Matthew: Wheeeeeeee

Notes

With 3 of the Banwells at level 9 of their careers, week 16 should see us very nearly to the finish line, if not all the way.

Imran frequently gets burn-outs from the computers and so has to do something creative. He’s too old to risk “relaxing” by working out. Belle enjoys being the centre of attention but not enough to really milk those fans. Hopefully one of these two will up their game and complete this dynasty.

The main reason for the delay is that I’m too nice to my Sims, letting them go do things for their irrelevant aspirations.

*edited to correct the Agatha/Agnes confusion

The Banwell SimTech Dynasty Week 16: Finale

Previously at Banwell Manor: Cherry topped her Trend Setter career, Henry maxed Programming and Matthew maxed the Pipe Organ

Belle: A selfie? It would be an absolute pleasure.
Fan: Well, you are a 5-star celebrity. You must be used to being asked for selfies.
Belle: Not so much.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: I’d like to thank my parents, my amazing family and, to be totally honest, our Watcher. I didn’t want to come tonight but she got me here to collect this amazing award. I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful our Watcher is.

Henry: Can you help me?
Curio Shop Owner: Maybe…
Henry: It’s about the secret lab.
Curio Shop Owner: Look kid – don’t start what you can’t finish. If you open the lab and let the spores out without following it through….well, I’ve said too much already.

Henry: I’ve just found out that Granny is now the top Food Critic but I know Dad’s struggling to top his computer skills. I bet I’ve got time to sort all this out….

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Henry: Rats! I’ve been grounded. Gramps topped his Charity Organiser career today as well so Watcher won’t let me go open the locked door. What’s the worst that could happen? It’s not like I’m going to max Fabrication, even if we needed it.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Belle: Another selfie? And with a Cosplayer? This will look amazing on my status.
Fan: You’re the best, Belle!
Belle: You’re right there. I’ve just maxed out Video Gaming and won the Ultimate Gaming Challenge. I really am the best.

Fan: I never expected to see a celeb like you in Strangeville. Can I have a selfie?

Hilda: Yes, dear.
Henry: What’s going to happen to me?
Hilda: How do you mean, dear?
Henry: I feel like I haven’t achieved my full potential and everyone’s talking about this all ending.
Hilda: To be honest, Henry, I’ve enjoyed every minute of my life and I’m over the moon that your Gramps and I made it right to the end. But it’s been a long haul from the beginning and I’m ready for a rest. But you! You’re still a teen. There’s a whole Simverse out there, just waiting for a likely lad like you!

Watcher: You did it, Imran! Well done.
Imran: That GeekCon boost was exactly what I needed. Hey, what’s going on? I’ve changed into my formals.

Notes

Imran romped to the finish line by maxing both Programming and Video Gaming at GeekCon which gives a boost to both skills while they’re there. I had been anticipating that his constant burn-outs would take us to the end of the week. Incidentally, with my Season length set to 4 week, the amazing Banwells achieved their goal within one year!

I’ve really enjoyed playing this SimTech Challenge with its differing restrictions for each Era. I highly recommend it. I was so happy and not a little surprised that Chad and Hilda both made it through to the end. It felt like a close-run thing when Hilda got her first death notice in the week before moving into the Long-Lived High Tech Era.

I considered trying to max all the available skills and get a few more aspirations but….For Rent beckons in just a few days’ time and a new adventure awaits.

As mentioned previously, the Banwell family are up on the Gallery should anyone want to take Henry on an adventure. Or one of the others. Just don’t choose Dusty if you want to do Friend of the Animals. I never saw him misbehave once!

A heartfelt congratulations to you, Watcher, on completing your SimTech Dynasty!
Very well-played, indeed!
As for Friend of the Animals, please try it next time with a Raccoon!  They are constantly misbehaving!

I'd planned to get my MishMash Legacy to the point where my Gen9 heir could take advantage of For Rent, but I got distracted by a different game (Coral Island).
Looking forward to whatever challenge you begin next!

P.S. Matthew really is a sultry hottie, isn't he?

Congratulations on another Dynasty so well-done! And heartfelt thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Now please excuse me while I go grab those Banwells! I have plans for young Henry, and just maybe Matthew as well.

So grateful for the support & encouragement of both @oshizu & @GlazeyLady as I played and wrote up this challenge. You guys are the best and I love reading your stories too.

Whilst I would enjoy playing the challenges totally solo, I do find writing them up makes my family more real, if that makes sense. Also it makes me accountable regarding the challenge rules to which I've signed up.

I'm also very grateful to this forum for providing the platform for my stories. Thanks to @Metropolis Man and the rest of the team for all your hard work.
