My sim was outsidei n frontof the house doing his exersizes and I went to shift+click the mailbox to fill all their needs and accidentally set the mailbox on his head. Then I reset him and the giant mailbox attached itself to the middle of the sidewalk in front of the house.
I read and tried everything to get rid of this mailbox and since it's not actually on a lot, I cannot get rid of it. I closed my game, reloaded it and, it's still there. I've continued playing my game, probably about 4 sim days or so, but I haven't received any mail, even though I wrote to my pen pal and asked for a postcard. The only way I knew that I had bills was because I clicked on my regular mailbox, the small one that is actually on my lot and 'pay bills" was an option. I think that the "set as head" thing was the dumbest thing they could have done to the game. I cannot revert to a previous save because I don't have one. I had deleted old saved games just before this happened. I also tried the "remove_object_set_AS_head" but, only after the extra mailbox had already stuck itself to the sidewalk.
So, does anybody know of a way to fix this?

There's currently a glitch where nobody gets mail if they leave the game or lot after requesting postcards, sending things to the Geo Council, etc. So if you either quit the game or left the lot (by this I mean visited a different lot) after requesting the postcards, that may be why you didn't get them.

Maybe try the cheat that allows you to edit hidden lots and career lots etc. I have no idea if this would help you to get rid of the sidewalk mail box... but it's worth a go I guess. "bb.enablefreebuild" or go here (http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/cheats.php) for more info.

Claymask, what can be done to fix this glitch then?
And playalot, I will try this later today. I also wondered if 'repair game' would help.
-
My theory is that completing the decorated eggs collection is what's hosing up the mail delivery.
-
I did finish up the egg collection, fwiw.
I tried bb.enablefreebuild, but since the mailbox is not on a "lot", I cannot touch it.
I moved out my sims and bulldozed the lot, then put back in the original Riverside Roost lot, and guess what? That darn mailbox is still there! The only thing I can think to do now is to start a new game in a whole new world. I want to figure out how to save all my families and their lots (except the one with the mailbox issue) so that I can put them back into the new game. I am hoping this will work and I won't lose any of their skills and collections and such.
I had really hoped that someone who knows about the programming and stuff for this game would post an answer to my problem.

Only Maxis can fix the mailbox glitch everyone has. What you can do is not leave the game or travel to another lot if you're expecting mail. If you still don't get mail after ordering a postcard and you haven't left the game or lot, then your glitch is different than the one everyone else has.

I went in the game to duplicate what you was talking about with the mailbox stuck on the sidewalk and the only way I figured out to get rid of the mailbox that is stuck on the sidewalk is with the use of a mod.
If you want to try the mod to get rid of the mailbox download this mod (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=532735). Put the zip file in your mods folder (without unzipping it) and make sure that script mods are enabled in game options. Once the mod is active open your saved game and shift click on the mailbox you want to get rid of and select Destory Object (Debug). Once the mailbox is gone you can exit the game and remove the mod if you want.

Thank you for your input. How many sim days does it take to receive mail after requesting a postcard? I just opened a retail store and was playing that a lot. I will try some testing to see if it's the glitch everyone else has.

Oh thank you! I will give this a try and see if it works for me! I had tried to take a screenshot of my problem but I don't know where the screen captures are so I can post.
ETA, I just downloaded it and it worked! Thanks so much for referring me to this mod!

It will take up to two days to receive a postcard after requesting it. It's too bad you can't play the retail lot while waiting for mail.

Your welcome, I'm glad it worked for you.
Screenshots should be in your Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Screenshots folder.

It's all fixed! I downloaded the mod by clown, as suggested and I got rid of that extra mailbox, yay! It was a sim Thursday and on Monday, the bills came. I requested postcards and received them on Tuesday.
However, I thought the dreaded unsatisfactory woohoo bug was gone and now it's back. Not sure when it came back though.
(I found the screenshot but dont' know how to add it.)
thanks for all your help!

To avoid that happening again instead of using the mailbox to fill you sims needs, shift-click on your sim and select Cheat needs then select Make Happy and that will fill your sims needs without risking setting the mailbox as head again.
-
Yeah, I need to get out of that habit of using the mailbox. Thanks again for the help!

please help get this mailbox off my sidewalk

Carolann, if you scroll up to grimsoul's post (#8), he says how to get rid of it. It will require a mod.
-
To grimsoul, I tried doing as you explained in order to fix this problem, and it doesn't seem to be working for me. I downloaded the mod, placed the unzipped file into the Mod folder as you specified, and also made sure that script mods were enabled, and then restarted the game. Now I can't shift click anything, even with testingcheats on. Am I doing something wrong maybe? Or is this because of an update of some sort preventing it from working? I know your original posting was from last April...

@mwarden15 welcome to the forum
The mod that @grimsoul was posting about is probably outdated now as this thread is over a year old. Maybe the mod has been updated for the recent patch but I don't know. Grimsoul might know more. :)

That mos hasn't been updated in a long time and no longer works.
I haven't tried it but a updated version has been made by someone else if you want to try it. You can download it here (http://modthesims.info/download.php?p=5031285#post5031285).
Hope this helps you and sorry if it took me awhile to get back to you. I've been taking a little break from the sims and haven't been around as much as I usually am.
