Title: Monarch Villa 3br, 3 ba
Post by: Ciosa on November 09, 2014, 07:08:10 AM
Name: Monarch Villa
Origin ID: ArchonsKeeper
Lot Type: 50 x 50 residential
Hashtags: #carlsguide

Still a work in progress - it needs a lot more landscaping, one of the bedrooms isn't done, the garden room off from the main bedroom and the upstairs areas to display collections need work.  I was actually trying to build close to an actual Roman Villa, and the peristyle in the center needs a lot of work, but I think it has potential.  It was the first time I felt a little limited by the 50 x 50 size.

I'm considering adding additional staircases and a second floor onto the back area, and possibly making it have a third floor as well.  I would love feedback or suggestions on landscaping.  Also, I know the rocket isn't exactly authentic.  >.>  But what Roman conqueror doesn't need a rocket ship?

Be gentle, it's my first time sharing a creation!  Although I really would like constructive criticism.

I love the overall look! I think a second floor would allow for more bedrooms etc making it easier for families as with all those specialist skill room which family wouldn't want to live here?

Thank you!  I took a break from it for a while to work on something more modern.

Even I'd want to live in this (if I had the money... :( ). I like the garden outback with the pillars.

I think I want to change it up - this has a ton of career reward objects, but I'd like to remake it with no career objects, and no rocket, and put some work in on the landscaping.  I think the landscaping is my biggest obstacle - I feel like I'm either overdoing it, or I'm doing way too little.  (Hello, giant green lot!)  If I just surround the main building with ferns and flowers and what not, it just feels underwhelming.  I wish there were better tools for curved walls - this feels like it should have some graceful stone walkways with lazily curving hedges lining the way.

Also I want a greater variety of spandrels.  I tried this lot originally with spandrels in place of the arches, but I couldn't get the colors to match properly with the stucco.   I'm looking at a couple other designs - this is actually a domus, as opposed to a villa, since there's nowhere near enough space on a 50 x 50 lot to make a villa.  (Acres of gardens, fields, outlying servants quarters, etc.)  I think I might just trash this one and start over, but I learned a lot about the creation tools in building it.  I have a grand dream of rebuilding all of Willow Creek as a Roman-themed village, including making venue-specific buildings.

So I went and I fiddled.  I fiddled a lot.  But I like the new result more.  I dropped out most of the modernistic elements - save a TV in one room, and the kitchen appliances and the like.  The house is now a whopping 395,000, fully decorated.  (I cringe at the bills already.  Oh how I cringe.)

I also have about 18 screenshots, but I didn't want to make this thread obnoxiously laden with pictures.  A few of the rooms (the gymnasium and the conservatory/music room) are ridiculously under-decorated.  The master bedroom also has a massive amount of unused space; I think they might become his and hers walk-in closets.

I'm just going to post the main view, here, and a link to the Pinterest page (http://www.pinterest.com/sethwoods393/sims-4/) where I'm hosting the rest.

I love it! It looks like a real Mediterranean villa. I would love to live in a place like that. Great job (:

Beautifully done!  The new version with the landscaping is gorgeous.  I think you picked the exact right trees.  Latin scholar?
