I've been wanting Aurora Skies for a while now, and decided to finally just get it. The standard version is listed as 2426 Simpoints, while the gold is 4307. It looks to me like the gold version adds the Tiny Prodigies Learning Center with all its items, including the premium content. Now here's where I'm confused: The Tiny Prodigies Learning Center venue on its own (including all items) is 1539 Simpoints. So Aurora Skies standard + Tiny Prodigies Learning Center venue = 3965 Simpoints, but Aurora Skies gold = 4307 Simpoints? Am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything. EA messed up with that price, because Aurora Skies Gold offers nothing that the standard world + the venue being bought separately doesn't.
It might be a holdover from when they didn't offer the venue separately from AS Gold.
So go with the cheaper option. :)
