How do I read to my child?
-
Get a book from the bookcase and set it on a table. Click on the book, and you should get a "read with..." option. Click on that, and your child's picture should come up. It may only work on children's books -- The Lord of the Swings is one, and A Pizza-cati-polka (not sure about the spelling) is another.

Lol, I now see that there is a description in the aspiration panel. facepalm

Hahaha, don't feel so bad, I was making a fool of myself for a good 10 minutes before seeing that and a good 5 minutes after reading the directions!

I just stuck a kid's book in my inventory, sat the kid down on the sofa, sat next to her and clicked on the book in the inventory. The option to "read to child" came up so I did. For an hour at a time.

Another cool thing is you can read more than one child at a time
-
You can also use Open on the book case and use "Read to Child...." directly from there.

I don't get that option from any of the bookcases in my sims' homes. Only when the kids book is in my parents inventory.

The interaction isn't directly on the bookcase. After selecting "open" on the shelf, you click a book to bring up another menu and if there is a child on the lot there is the option to "read to child" in that menu. It's a bit awkward to get to, but I find it faster than putting the book in the adult's inventory.
