The concept for this project came about when my old computer wouldn't handle a dynasty or legacy past a generation or two. Moving to a new town with each generation helped avoid that problem.
The goal is to start with one couple in one starting town and follow their family through all of the Electronic Arts/Origin towns that are owned. The new genetics that are brought into the family can be very interesting.
Random Town Jump Rules
1. Randomize all of the available EA towns. You can randomize the towns by going to http://random.org (http://www.random.org/) and using their number randomizer. You would assign each number a town and click the randomize button. There are other randomizing utilities on the internet that you can use as well. You can also use an Excel spreadsheet. I use an App on my iPad (or iPhone) called Random Master which works beautifully. Any new towns created by EA can be added.
EDIT: You may also use the Forum's town, Union Cove.
2. Normal lifespan.
3. No cheats except as noted unless there are building cheats needed such as Move Objects On or such.
MODS: You may use Mods if you wish to help keep your game error free. You may also use a Story Progression mod to ensure there will be a prospective spouse for your heir. If you don't like mods, you don't have to use them.
4. A "start out" money cheat of no more than $5,000 is allowed ONLY to have a house roomy enough for a child. No other money cheats are allowed. Use the "kaching" money cheat by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+c and typing in "kaching" (without quotes) for each 1,000 Simoleons that you need.
5. The family will strive to become rich.
6. There is no limit on when a child has to be born, but only a naturally born child of the heir can continue the legacy.
7. You may have as many children as you wish but only the heir can continue the journey.
8. You may choose any child to be the heir, but it must be a child who is conceived after the game is started.
9. No aging up until actual birthday.
10. Roll a random Lifetime Wish for each heir. The heir must achieve his/her Lifetime Wish. Spouse/others do not, though it would be nice to let them to achieve it. Each heir must choose a unique Lifetime Wish so if a duplicate is rolled, continue rolling until there's one that hasn't been used. I roll for the Lifetime Wish when the child is born using the same method as Rule No. 1 above.
Modification: Instead of rolling for LTW at heir's birth, you may roll for traits at each birthday and choose the LTW from one of the four that appear when your sim ages to Young Adult.
11. The heir will find a spouse before moving to a new town.
12. Each family (parents, heir and heir's spouse) will move to a new town as soon as the heir becomes a young adult.
CLARIFICATION: To move the family, go to Edit Town and save the family to your bin. When you start your new town, choose your family to move into the house.
13. The family will remain in the moved-into house for the entire generation.
VARIATION: You may either move into a pre-built EA house, OR you may build a house specifically for your family. You may not use a money cheat to be able to afford a house.
14. Heir siblings do not have to move to the new town but they can if you wish. It's up to you.
15. You may move the family with their house if you wish in order to keep items you may have acquired (such as a 5-Star Chef's refrigerator). Then, they can move into a different (affordable) house.
16. The game ends when the final heir in the final town reaches Young Adult age. This heir does not have to achieve his/her Lifetime Wish.
That's it. It is interesting to see how each town genetics turn out for each generation.

I'm glad to see this became a project! ;D I probably won't have time to do this for a while, but who knows?
I do have a few questions, though.
1. Any restrictions on who the starting family is?
2. Can heir siblings come with the heir? 14. says they can, but 7. seems to see they can't. Unless I'm misreading something here.

Thanks, Audren!
1. There are no restrictions on who the starting family is. I try to make them a couple without children but that's not a requirement. If they have a child, they need to have another one that will qualify for the heir.
2. Siblings can come with the heir but they don't continue the legacy. Meaning it isn't necessary for them to find a spouse or have offspring and any offspring that they do have won't be eligible to become an heir. I usually let older siblings remain in the old town but bring younger ones along.

I am planning on doing this project eventually, but it may be a while. I know it's not required, but I want to have all the towns so that I can continue for longer!
I am missing Moonlight Falls from Supernatural, plus Barnacle Bay, Lucky Palms, and Sunlit Tides. One day, perhaps after Christmas and my January birthday, I will be able to catch up with all the towns EA has created!

This seems like a really fun challenge. I think I'll play along at some point. I've been having a blast reading Ausette's Jones Family town jump story!
Maybe it's my sleepy brain (just woke up) but I'm trying to figure out how one would go about going back to an old town to see how things have progressed after a generation or two has moved away. This has nothing to do with the actual challenge, more about my own curiosity to see how things might have progressed while I was "away." I'm thinking that it would be impossible since each saved game has its own time "zone" and if I move a family from, say Riverview to Twinbrook, I don't see how I could get someone to go back to that old Riverview to see what's happened after they moved away. It would just be another save file wouldn't it? I suppose I could switch to the old (Riverview, in this example) save file and let it run autonomously for awhile just to see where the story goes.
Also, a question regarding the $5000 "starting money" that is allowed. I play with a mod that allows the sims to start with $25,000 and I really don't want to have to remember to remove it and put it back into my folder every time I play so could I just do a Family Funds to lower their money to what it would be if they didn't have the excess from my cheat (and only if they *need* the money)? I think that would be $20,000, right?

I don't think there's a way to go back to a different town unless you kept a save file of that town. That way you could play it again but the story progression wouldn't keep up with your current family.
Yes, you can use a Family Funds to give them the correct amount of starting money. The starting money is only for those extremely poor couples that need a second bedroom for their babies.

Great, thanks for the reply! I see that you've got a Sargeant family town jump. I'm going to go read that now. I love them!

Thanks! The Sergeant Town Jump is on hold right now because of health issues. But my Crosby Random Town Jump is completed: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,11113.0.html

This looks really interesting, but I have one question:
How are they supposed to move as soon as they become a young adult if they're supposed to bring their spouse with them?
Do they get married before they move, or do I edit them into the family and then move them? The first option requires staying for a few days of young adult time, the second requires something that I generally consider "cheating".
(Usually, I choose the spouse after they age up to young adult as waiting for a teen to catch up can be really annoying.)
And hey, my computer can't seem to handle more than 2.5 generations per save file right now, so this is right up my alley :).
Also, how 'bout a modification allowing 2 generations per town? Just a thought.
And, is vacation time forbidden? Because knowing which lifetime wishes should be banned would be good.
Thank you for such a cool idea!
Edited to add:
One more question -- If they have to move as soon as the heir becomes a young adult, it could be very difficult to fulfill the parents' LTWs. Also, some LTWs are impossible in some towns (due to lack of necessary facilities -- many towns don't have plumbbob studios, Sunlit tides is missing at least the firehouse, etc.) -- I'm thinking of limiting the options for LTWs to things that aren't career related or tied to the lot (like Perfect Garden would be).
Also, can I simply move my whole house with them each move? I like using a certain house type and don't like having to rebuild it all the time. Or does that affect the stability of the save file? I guess I can always just build the ideal house when empty, save it to the bin, and put it in each town I move into ad then move them in, but that's more work and still requires decorating each house anew (furniture, special items, etc.).
I keep coming up with more questions, so I'll keep adding them here for now.
Thanks again!

I usually marry the new spouse into the family before moving to the new town. If it takes some time that's okay. There's no time limit.
If you want to go for two generations per town, go for it. These rules aren't terribly strict. Fun is the name of the game :)
Vacation time is unlimited. I didn't mention it, or even think of it, because I usually crash or get some kind of glitch whenever my sims travel...so I don't. No lifetime wishes are banned at all.
I'm happy you like my project!

You can limit your lifetime wishes to those you have EPs/facilities for.
They don't have to move immediately. After the parents achieve their LTWs is fine.
Edited to add: Or they can finish their LTW in the new town.
Yes, you can move with their house if you want. It's totally up to you and your game playing style. It shouldn't affect the game file to any great extent.
-
Another, quick question: If you move a sim (or a sim and their house) to the bin and then move them to a new town, will they have the same job they did or will they be unemployed?
Thanks!

They will have the same job at the same level.
-
So does the starting family have to be a couple at the start of the game, or can it be a single person who gets with someone else in the same town?
-
They don't have to be a couple. But, both should be a "Townie."
-
I have been thinking of doing one of these. But I don't like most townies. Is it okay if I make my own founder(s)?
-

You bet! This "challenge" is supposed to be fun! However, when the heir ages up he/she should marry a townie. Part of the premise of this challenge is to see how the different townies change the looks of a family from generation to generation. That is why I always start with a townie couple.
-
Thanks! Yea, I knew that the heir would marry a townie I just like to create my own founders ;D
-
Does the heir have to accomplish their LTW before they move or just in their lifetime?
-
Within their lifetime.
-
Thanks for the quick reply! I have another question: If the heir rolls a lifetime wish that conflicts with their traits, (like if a unflirty sim gets the LTW of heartbreaker) can we roll another?
-
Nope...sorry. That's the point of it being random. It sometimes makes it difficult to reach the lifetime wish but I've always been able to make it. It just takes more work.
-

Ah, I see. That's actually pretty cool, it will be fun watching our sims fail. I like this project because it has less restrictions than the dynasties (those put a TON of pressure on me and I was very upset when I failed).
-
Good. I'm glad you like my project!
-
I just have to say how happy I am that the Random Town Jump Project has become so popular. Every time I see a new story on the forum, I get a big smile on my face :)
-
I just started a Random Town Jump of my own, with the Raos. Mia is already pregnant with their first child. I'm assuming this child cannot be the heir?
-
That is correct.
-
That is correct.
That's what I assumed. Thanks for the clarification. :D
-
Oh glad I checked this now. I am doing one with the Keatons and they have two children. I am doing one but I don't think I am a very good writer to do a story. :P
-
I consider myself a terrible writer...compared to other talented writers on this forum...but I still get readers. I bet you would too :)
-
I will eventually do a story. If my schedule ever permits that :P I will probably do this town jump and then after Uni comes out I will do another one. That one a story.
I am such a procrastinator ::)
-

After thinking about this for a while, I this is what I came up with:
You can use Lifetime Reward Points to change traits and/or lifetime wishes. I sometimes do this with my founders.
-
Hey, I started this challenge recently. I didn't realize my couple girl was already on her stage one pregnancy. I assume their unborn kid can't be the heir? (Its the "sports spice and everything nice" couple from Appaloosa)
-
Since you didn't know...and you've already started...it's okay.
-
My couple had the same thing. Judewright said that the unborn baby could not be the heir. I'd assume the same thing would apply to you.
Had you already started too, Audren?
-
Had you already started too, Audren?
Yes. I saw that Mia was pregnant once I started up the game and asked if the baby could be the heir. You said no, so I assumed that they'd need to have another baby to have an heir. Is that okay?
-
You can do it either way. I should have been more clear in the rules...but it hadn't come up yet :(. Right now, I would say however fits your story best.
Edit: I "usually" try to research the families a little so that I know who's pregnant at game start.
-

I think I'll just continue on. I just won't consider her as a possibility for the heir. Besides, how can I say no to more nooboos? :P
-

There ya go!
-
yeah same, I should've checked. Either way, more "options"? :D
-
This looks interesting and something I am going to start. Today. After lunch. Because before lunch I am going to have to plan out my random game. ::) I really like how the rules aren't very strict and there is a lot of random-y goodness. ;D
-
Are you going to post a story? I'll be watching for it. ;)
-
I will definitely be posting something, although I wouldn't go so far as to call it a story ::)
-
I can't wait to start this, despite having three or four other challenges going at the same time ;D
A few questions before I begin...
1) Are there any restrictions on occults in the household?
2) Does the spouse specifically have to come from outside the household or could I use an Imaginary Friend?
3) Are there any restrictions on bringing people in and out the household?
Thanks and I can't wait to start!
-

1) There are are no restrictions on occults.
2) I hadn't thought of this one but I would think an IF would be okay. It would certainly bring some interesting genetics into the family ;)
3). There are no restrictions on bringing people in and out of the household, except: the parents of the heir needs to remain in the household and will move to the new town with the heir.
Enjoy the challenge!
-
What if one of the parents dies before the heir is YA?
-
That's fine since death is a normal life event.
-
What if one of the parents dies before the heir is YA?
When that happens, I also make sure to bring the parent's urn along to the next town to keep them in the family tree. It allows future children to inherit features like eye and hair colour from their grandparents.
-
Thanks, Ausette! I couldn't have explained it better myself!
-
I've got a couple more questions:
1) Is there anything against life extending?
2) Are the started Sims (in my case Erin and Leighton) required to complete their lifetime wishes?
-
Just to clarify, the spouse has to be from the town the heir was born in? So in the starter town, the family and the spouse will be found from that?
-
Yes. Jude can correct me if I'm wrong, but if you are playing in Appaloosa Plains, the spouse needs to be found there, before you move to your second town. :)
-

Thank you, MissPlumbBob, that is correct.

There is no rule against extending life.
The founders should try to complete their lifetime wish if possible. If they have enough LTHR points, their LTW can be changed to match their personality better.
-
Another question:
Are there any restrictions on bringing another Sim into the household?
I ask because I waited a bit late for my founders to have children. They will most likely pass before the heir and/or spare are YAs. I had one of the founder's best friends move in, so she can take care of the children after the parents die. Is this ok?
-
There are no restrictions on adding to the household.
-
Due to the new bug with the dresser I got to ask : Are we still allowed to freely plan our sims outfits?
I am considering starting this project for my next long term project.
I can live with many restrictions for projects and challenges but having the live with what my game thinks is appropriate outfits if they are in my household is beyond me.
-
Yes, plan your peeps' outfits all you want. This challenge isn't as "challenging" as the official ones and some rules were made to be broken. ;) I think the main challenge is getting through all of the towns...since I have all of them. :D
-
With the disastrous failure of my Life State Dynasty (2nd attempt), I am taking a breather and trying this one out. I read about it today and read some of the stories and it sounds really great.

This is a great project! I can't believe I only just stumbled upon it, I'm definitely going to give it a go. I'm probably not going to post a story for it though. I do have one question - can I pick the starting town or do I have to roll for it?

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm going to get started on this now :)

I'm considering starting a town jump, mainly as some respite from the Dynasty which can end up feeling like a chore at times. This looks fun but also has a challenge and goal which will keep me interested in the file. :) I'd like to stick as close the rules as possible... So I need to ask some questions. :P
1. Any rules on Edit Town use? I'd rather not have to place everything at the start like the Dynasties because if I'm only staying there for one generation it seems a bit of a waste of time to place all the showtime lots if I don't need them etc. Also I'd like to place the MA Academy from China so I don't have to travel to get the equipment to practice with. Obviously I'll have to if I get a Sim with the LTW for the Tournament.
2. Plastic Surgery? I'm obssessed with Elf Ears and awesome Eyes. :P I wouldn't actually change anything else of a Sim - well maybe Chris' lips but yeah. If not for the heir what about Founders and Spouses?
3. Bit confused about this bit: Which is correct?
7. You may have as many children as you wish but only the heir can continue the journey.
14. Heir siblings do not have to move to the new town but they can if you wish. It's up to you.
And clarification that traits and lifetime wants are pretty much the same as the Life States Dynasty? You roll the traits but pick from the offered LTW?
-

1. You can edit town however, as often as, and whenever you wish. There are no restrictions.
2. Yes, you can use Plastic Surgery.
3. People are playing the game both ways. When I first created the challenge, only the LTW was rolled. But, I'm finding it more fun to roll the traits and choose the LTW at young adult so that the game decides the sims' personality. The game can be played either way...your preference.
Enjoy the challenge!

Thanks! :) I think I'll roll the traits. I rolled my town, looks like I'm off to Union Cove. One of my founder choices isn't that practical for a Generational Game but her LTW will certainly make things interesting - do the parents have to be married?
-

Parents do not have to be married but should live in the same house.
-
Parents do not have to be married but should live in the same house.
Oh they will.
-
I should clarify that. The reason they need to live in the same house is because parents must move to the next town with the family heir.
-

What if one or both parents are dead? Do I move the urns?
-
What if one or both parents are dead? Do I move the urns?
Yes. I keep all family tombstones in an heir's personal inventory...NOT in family inventory. That way, the family generations can be traced back to the original founders. Also, some family characteristics could be passed to new heirs, at least in the first generation or two.
-
Good to know, since the father in my current attempt is already an elder.
-
Looks like I'm going to start again and also removing Union Cove from my list of worlds. It crashed within the first 10 minutes and it was laggy so I'd rather not have to deal with that in a challenge game. So I re-rolled and am off to Moonlight Falls, analysing Skills and townie lists. I think I've chosen my founding couple. :)
-
I have the same problem with Union Cove, even though I really love it. My laptop just doesn't have enough oomph to play there. Good luck in Moonlight Falls! By the way: Are you writing a story? I'll watch for it.

Thanks and probably. It won't be much of a story though, more of a documentation of the challenge. I've selected my household and turns out one of them is a Ghost, it wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't neon yellow. That is so changing when I can get Ambrosia. :P
-
That's the only kind of story I can write...LOL

Lol, I do prefer that kind of sims story though. ;) I've started reading your first Town Jump! Uhg, it's been a long time since I've dealt with needs. My Dynasty sims were able to get a motive mobile on the first day due to a LTW completion and a wish enhancer elixir but no such LTW in my chosen household and limited funds. :P
Edit: *facepalm* I just found a Bwan Speedster in their garage.. Why did I not think to look there! Now it's an empty garage.. ;)
-
So, If I'm reading this correctly, the Heir does not have to fulfill there lifetime wish before they jump towns?

That is correct. He/she can complete it in the new town.

Oh, Great! ;D I'm about to start my Town Jump In Sunset Valley, with the Wolffs ;D

Yes, it'll probably be posted later on ;D

As some people know, I'm having LOADS of problems with my file. I'd forgotten to make backups and now everyone but 1 Sim and 1 pet have vanished. I tried using resetsim to bring them back, and it did, but I can't control them and no amounts of resetsim will do it. The only thing I can do is save everyone into the Sim bin through the 'Edit in CAS' cheat (testingcheats), move into the new town and then put them together again in CAS, then put them down into the new world. The only other option would be to try and copy them via edit town again (just like you'd do when it's actually time to move), but I tried that and so far, it's not working.
Can I go ahead and try those options? Both would mean that my heir is moving as a teen but unless I age them up, there's no way around it.
-
Of course you can. Do whatever you need to save your game. Good luck!
-
I'm nearly ready for my first jump, but I've never saved sims as a household before. If I put some items in the family inventory, will it be there in the next town? I want to have them keep the same cars, the time machine and the food replicator.

When sims are saved as a household, everything in the family inventory is lost. To keep something, it needs to be kept in a sim's "personal" inventory. I don't think the time machine and food replicator can be kept in personal inventory, so you would have to save the family WITH their house. Then, if you want to move to another house, put the items you want to keep in the family inventory, move to the house THEN and move them from there when you get the family moved into the new house.
-
Thanks judewright that's really helpful. I will do it that way round, I never even thought of that. So now I'm off to Hidden Springs :)
-
Hey! I had a question.
Is it okay to move to a new house within the current town? Cause the house I am currently in doesn't work and it is on a small lot and I don't want to do much renovating.
As well, my heirs parents are divorced. (link to story in signature to learn about that) And the father moved out. Is that allowed? Should I just move him back in for the move to the new town then move him to a new house in the new town? (sorry if that's confusing)

Yes, you can go ahead and move to a different house. I had to do that when my Crosby family house became hopelessly bugged.
As for the father, to keep in the spirit of the challenge, he should move to the new town with his family. The family needs to remain together to keep the family line intact. Maybe he could live in a part of the house that's set apart from the rest? Or a small cabin somewhere on the property. That way, when he dies his gravestone can be put into the personal inventory of the heir to continue through the generations.
-
Okay, thanks. I will add him back to the household and they will just move to a house where he can have his own space.

Do the founders have to be a couple at the strat of the game? Or am I allowed to split an existing couple (maybe with kids?) and use one of them together with another townie? And what about teenagers, am I allowed to wait for them to age up and then marry them?
There is so much I want to know about the **ibilities that project gives us. ;D

The founders do not have to be a couple at the start of the game. You can use whomever you wish as a starting couple.

Well, that makes it more and more interesting! Thanks! ^^
-
You're welcome. Have fun with the project!
-
I'm just thinking. I'm too busy at the moment but in the future...who knows... ;)
-
I want the okay on this before I go ahead and do it, though I'm fairly confident there won't be a problem.
One of my founders' favorite colours is absolutely eye-searing. This wouldn't be so bad if I weren't obsessive about using it in his wardrobe and a mixture of his and his wife's favorite colours in the house. If I keep the other personality traits random, can I change it to something a bit more reasonable? (Making them in CAS)
Well nevermind that. Sims crashed while I was editing his spouse's clothes. I'll have to start fresh with a new group of traits and everything after my computer's had a break. I swear this is the only game I have these sorts of problems with. I can play pretty much every other game in my bookcase for 8 hours straight with no problems; an hour of Sims and it's twitchy as.. as.. Um. My infant nephew...... >>
'Nother question, for future reference.
I have six towns, so obviously I'll be repeating them. AP, Bridgeport, HS, Riverview, SV, and Twinbrook. So, let's say, I roll a d6 and end up with... *rolls a d6* 3: Hidden Springs. Then when my heir moves out, I roll that d6 again. Is 3 a "reroll," or do I simply stay in Hidden Valley should it come up?
-
I lost my list of towns, but I had the first 4 memorized. Is it ok if i randomize the remaining towns, and #1 on the randomizer would be #5 on my town jump?
-

Yes, that's fine.

Sorry I missed your question :(.
I would re-roll for a different town.

I was looking through projects as it was suggested for someone and they sounded right for me, the legacies and dynasties are to strict for me. This sounds interesting, probably will start it up after IP is released and I somewhat know my way around.
Anyhow, what I was wondering is, with the problem of story progression, unless it is fixed, I am concerned how easy it will be to find a mate for my sim. Which had me thinking is, if we could move in a sim from another town to use. Example is George Dean from RV, I love this man (for mates for my sims), he produces beautiful babies, is a great husband and father. But, when I move my sim family to RV, he will be too old for the child they have to be a future mate (unless you can use the fountain of youth elixir). So, could he be moved to say AS to be a mate? I know from another time that an offspring from him, even though moved there from another game, he could not marry, so that removes him from the possible prospects.
I moved his great-great-granddaughter to RV to be a mate and the programming noted her as his relative and she couldn't go for more than a friendship.
Another question, how does the epic lifespan work? I am going from what I have read that the sims live a very, very, very, very long time. Wouldn't their offspring also live a very loooooonnggg time also? Same with aging off, doesn't that keep them from dying?
Can we assign a number and then roll dice, would that be random enough? With seven towns it should be enough to give a random choice.
As for story, if I can get my computer to let me bring up the photos, I will at least give some info, but I don't how good of a story I could write. I may want, wish to write, but reality is I would make a lousy author.
-
Janna, you can use elixirs if you want. I've never brought in sims from a different town. Part of the focus of the challenge is to watch the change of genetics from town to town.
The challenge is played on a "normal" time span.
You don't have to write a story but I'm sure you could do it! It couldn't be any worse than my writing.
Have fun with it!
-
I think I know why I was confused on the age aspect. I had read this one, went to another one and was reading it; during reading it my computer for some reason said the site was interrupted. So, had to get back online, come to this project I want to do and mixed the two up.
So, have to marry a sim from that town. Sunset Valley is the only town I really have had problems with in finding a decent mate.
I really like the sound of it, I will have to use the Fountain of Youth possibly, as I don't play on normal, have the ages changed to what I like so will have to remember to switch back and forth.
Note to self: Remember to write a note to remember to switch lifestages from other games for this game. ;D
Another question, what about the WA? How does that fit into the project? Can "monies" obtained from adventures be used, or not? My sim just returned from a trip to China, she left with $14,000 and after the metals and gems were smelted and cut she had over $260,000. A nice haul from metals, gems and books from China.
I'm figuring we can't marry a sim from a foreign country, so that leaves out one source of mates.
It sounds like a lot of fun, but as I stated, it will be after I have IP and have played for a bit to get used to the town, or should I say islands :D
-

Your sim can travel and use the monies obtained without restriction.
I'm figuring we can't marry a sim from a foreign country, so that leaves out one source of mates.
If your heir has aged up in his/her town, if they want to travel and marry a foreigner, the marriage should take place before the family moves to the next town.
-
okay, I want to clarify some things.
I can create my own founder couple, but their heir has to marry a townie. If they travel to a foreign country and meet someone there, can they invite them to visit and then marry them, that's still considered a townie.
I can use the monies made from visiting WA countries to get the increase of income, the goal is to go to seventh generation, not to make a certain amount of money.
If I decide to start the game now, before I have IP, then after I get that town I can redo the randomizing and add it in. Or do I just make it the last town to be visited?
What I am thinking of doing is having a type of story of two sims from another world will be transported to the sim world by an evil wizard they have been fighting. The dragons they ride have been changed to baby dragons and in order to return to their world they have to visit a set number of towns, perform a set number of tasks and when completed they will be returned to their world.
What I plan on doing is that even if DV isn't the seventh town, I can visit there after the project is finished to compete my story of being returned to their world.
Not sure if I can do a very good story, but I am thinking about it.
I'm figuring that my sims couple will have to be fae in order to live long enough to visit the last town, or use the fountain of youth elixir. Or save them to the bin and add them after the seventh generation is born so they can finish their story part.
Since the project and the cure for the curse will be to have seven generations, and as I have (with IP) seven towns, I can make the seven towns as part of the curse/cure. The LTW can also be a part, added as each couple is given their LTW.
Still bouncing around ideas in my head. I really want to do this after reading your story with the Crosby family. Something that I can do, enough of a challenge to keep my interest yet not overwhelm me with lots and lots of rules.
-
That sounds like a great story. Everything looks good to go. You can add your new town in anywhere you want. That what I'm doing with the Winterly Random Town Jump and Dragon Valley. I just can't leave it out ;).
-
Another question, sorry so many.
The founder couple, I prefer to make my own, but do I do a random on looks? I am figuring that I will need to do so on traits and LTW, but I would prefer to create the sims in how I like them to look, hotties :D
-

You can create the sim but please randomize the traits. You can pick the LTW from those that appear after traits have been chosen.
-
Hey judewright,
I'm starting my own Random Town Jump and I have a question? Is it OK if one half of the couple is a Supernatural, in my case, Vampire?
-
Sure. That would be fine...and very interesting!
-
I have a few questions, so sorry if they have already been answered.
1. Do the heirs have to complete their lifetime wishes before moving to the new town?
2. When moving, are we allowed to use the new method that came with the update for Island Paradise?
Thanks in advanced!

2. Yes. You can use the new method of moving if you wish.

I may have to change the LTW of my female founder. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but it is in all of my towns -- my sims can't sign up for the self employed alchemy career.
Frustrating, but hopefully they can fix it so that another member of the family can take that as a career, now I just have to decide what career would be good. Need to do a check and see what will come up.
I'm continuing to write the story, noting where pictures are to be at. Hopefully, I can figure out what is going on. Kids leave after the 4th of July, so if I haven't fixed it by then, I can focus more on it and yelling for help ;D .

Yell all you want, Janna. I'm usually around here several times a day. ;) Sorry you're having technical difficulties. I'm also having problems in Lunar Lake. My sim can't sign up for any job or part time job. Sigh. Maybe it'll fix itself after Island Paradise is installed.

Juderight, if you have a look at the Patch 1.55 (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,16462.0.html) thread on page 4 I also had that problem but it can be fixed by moving the rabbit holes back a few squares. You have to use moveobjects on to get the rabbit holes in a usable position.
Also, I've been thinking about starting one of these but after I finish a legacy or life states dynasty, it would be too much too write!
-
I hope they get these problems fixed soon. The problem with the combined rabbit holes where you can't go in, I was so glad that I had already bought the toddler books before the patch.
It's going to be the end of July before I can buy the IP expansion pack, if nothing else happens, that is. By then maybe they will have all of the problems taken care of.
They are supposed to come and fix my fridge tomorrow, hope they can fix it. The warranty runs out in Oct, glad I still have it but irritated that a new fridge, just five years old, it shouldn't have broken down once, let alone three times. Not going to buy a GE every again, both appliances we bought at the same time, GE, have had nothing but problems.
I just read the post of where you can move the rabbit holes. I am seriously thinking of just taking them out and using the ones from SV and making them single buildings. I have done that in MF, I hated those rabbit holes, they were so depressing looking, and no tables for dining outside. Told my sims before I realized it was like that to eat outside and they had to stand on the sidewalk and eat.
Took them out and added the Bistro, bookstore, grocery, spa and diner from SV and another town.
-
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
My fridge is fixed. The new guy who came not only had the part for the inside, the fan and motor, but also some thingamajig for the back. So I am trusting that it will now work, at least for more than just a year. He also fixed my dishwasher, which I am glad for.
I am enjoying this project so much I have decided to do a second story, working on it now. With this one I won't be doing one like the Guardian couple, where they have a curse to break, just the "regular" one, taking again a couple of aspects from some I have read here. Instead of sending emails, my female sim is going to write in her diary.
And another YEAH, my first roll was a town I was hoping for, so I can create a female sim and have her marry a sim that I really like and see what kind of offspring he will produce.
A question on something that we can do.
Are we allowed to let the heir and his mate have their first child in the town before they move and let the child grow to adulthood in the next town? I'm not keen on having a lot of kids, usually one in my normal games, although for this project I will probably have at least two. Anyhow, I am hoping that the first born will be the heir and want to give him or her a chance to age to toddler before I move so he will be closer in age to the kids in the new town. A better chance to find a mate as there is usually a couple of kids that are in toddler or child stage at the beginning of a game.
Another question,
With the story progression problem but the need (which I like), for the mate to be someone from that town, can we save to the bin a couple of families from that town, say the Bunch and Keaton families from SV that have kids?
Example would be, save those two families who have and are going to have children to the bin while the kids still young. When your reaches the same age as those children are, such as the ages of the Bunch kids, you can then move them back to the town from your bin. They are originally from there, but it will give your heir a chance to grow up with them and thus be able to find a mate when he or she becomes a YA. Or even an couple of the YA who have died from old age, or are too old to be mates, so they can find one. I am just wondering, I always think of the what ifs and would this work. Drove my family crazy when I was a kid.
Am I making sense? Probably not, but just wondering how to work around the story progression problem.

No, Sorry. That would defeat the purpose of randomness. The heir must marry a townie from his/her current town.

Thanks for fixing my formatting. I was on my ipad and it wouldn't split up the quote.

I have a question. Can we adopt children? Not to be an heir (I already have that one picked out) but to be a type of babysitter? I know that sounds bad, but my sims really need some help and I decided to adopt a child so they could have some help when needed, not considering if it is allowed.
I am planning on aging her up four days early so she will be a teen.
I am working on having some photos up about this family, the O'Shea's, sometime today.

Yes. There are no restrictions on who you add to the family. They just can't be the heir.

Curious,
What is the order of how you write your stories? Do you write the story and then get the photos to fit it, take photos and then write the story, combine or what?
With my memory problems, I am finding that if I play the game and then try to write the story I have forgotten things that happened and of course we can't backtrack. I have been writing ahead, and taking photos, but realized when I was setting it up to post that some things had been left out; such as I forgot to take photos of her in China picking cherries.
I have figured out what I am going to do to keep track which will work for me, ;D but curious what others do to keep on track.
-
I take notes in notepad on my iPad. I don't really tell a story...I just narrate what's happening. I write down when I take a screenshot and the circumstances around it.
-
I play the game, take screenshots, then work it into a story. I take notes on paper and don't play ahead of chapter posting so I remember what has happened. Sometimes, plan ahead if you want to get a special chapter that maybe just involves talking or normal everyday activities. Sometimes, these are the best chapters.
-
I like to take my screenshots first, taking notes in Microsoft Word as I go (I play with The Sims in non-fullscreen mode, which lets me refer to Word and my Screenshots folder). I find it easier to tailor my storytelling to the pictures than the other way around, so this method is what works best for me. :)

Falsely accused of cheating.
I posted this in Misc Help section (I think) but I wanted to ask here what to do if I can't remove the false cheating accusation. I won't give the details here as I don't want to double post, except that I have tried a couple of times to get to the RI (grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood family) and break it up and as soon as he sees her it comes up that he is a cheater and if he is near her she goes off on him and if he is near his wife she go off on him. Either way, the relationship seems as if it will be ruined.
Any suggestions on what I can do to save it? If I save them to the bin and move them back to another game in same town of DV would that remove the charges? Can I even do that? I just lost two hours of play time because of the stupid cheating charges. He left to visit his brother and when he walked into the door it popped up that he was a cheater and his wife is furious and after an hour I couldn't even get her to talk just a couple of minutes before she starts to argue with him and then would be in tears; I guess due to one of her traits being Childish she isn't handling it very well. Others are Flirty, Love of O., Perfectionist and Good. His is Brave, Handy, Athletic, Charismatic and Ambitious.
Or do I need to back track to a save before he was charged and see if I can play from there and hope he doesn't get charged again, or save to bin from there and move them back to a new DV town.
For those who have read it do you think it is worth saving or should I just start a new game totally?
*Sigh*
It seems that right now no matter what my game may be lost.
-
Don't give up yet. I believe there is a Lifetime Happiness Reward for "Clean Slate." Go ahead and do a cheat for 25,000 Lifetime Rewards to get the Reward. (Ctrl+Shift+C, then Ctrl+ Right Click around the Treasure Chest until you get that amount.) it should fix it.
Edit: You might have to put the Ctrl+Shift+C cheat in at the screen where you choose which family to play: Main Menu. I haven't done it for a long time so I'm not sure.
-
I've use that on testing games, you have to do it from the main menu before you go to your town.
I just wasn't sure if that was allowed, which I am glad that I can as I am attached to this family and I have created a plot that I think will be nice and have some twists to it. Or at least I am going to try to have some twists to it.

Did it work for you then? Cheats aren't usually allowed except to save a game. But, in a case like this it is fine.
-
Yes, it worked, I was able to remove the false accusation. The loss of relationship didn't return, so I adjusted it to what it had been before, use Control and then put the pointer on the meter at the persons photo and move it to the right to increase it and go to the left to decrease it. I moved Bri and Kearney's back to where it had been and then took the one with the false RI to acquaintance and everything was back to normal.
thank you for the help.
-
Glad it worked, Janna!
-
I am planning to do this sort of project using some of Metro's Life State Dynasty rules, as my computer also currently hates me and froze up twice while I was playing Isla Paradiso! :( I like having various life states in the household and also this project will help fix some of the freeze issues. Is it okay if I create this revised ruleset and PM it to you, jude?

Sure! I'll be around here off and on today. I'll try to watch for you ;)

Do we still have to move the same way with the new "Move into a different neighborhood/world" interaction? I'm not sure exactly how it works, seeing as I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to save the step of saving to bin and such...
-
You can use the new method if you wish.
-
I'm figuring that we can't do this, but I want to ask anyway, who knows, it may be allowed :)
Can we give the dragons magical powers above what they can do? Something that I am considering for my O'Shea story is that when a "bad man" show up one of the dragons, either red or black, will be able to make them forget things such as where they are, what and who they have seen. I could also use the elixirs to remove memories, put the person to sleep and have them forget what has happened to them, where they have been for a certain period of time or even sleep for a long period of time, such as a year and then not remember anything that has happened to them. Have a witch cast some type of spell that can be used to protect my sim family. Anything that could have a "magical" aspect to it.
Would any of these be allowed to use? If not I can up with other methods, but I would like to weave it into the story for the magical effect.
But I do have a backup plan, I just prefer to use the magical aspect if possible.
-
Sorry it took me so long to answer...I slept in this morning. There are no restrictions on elixirs. Magic your heart out! :)
-
Please, don't feel you have to give a quick answer, I can wait a day or two if need by. It won't keep me from working on my story as for now it isn't needed, but later on.
Does anyone know why sometimes the photos don't show up? I was adding another chapter to my story and I noticed that some of the pictures, that had been there before, are now not showing up.
That happens a lot on the showboat thread, I can't see a lot of the photos of homes or other building and it is frustrating that it is now happening on my story.
-
Where do you have your pictures hosted? The Gallery or somewhere else?
-
The Gallery, What has me confused is that the other day they were showing up, not it seems as if they aren't.
I can go back and redo them, just don't understand why they would all of a sudden stop being able to be seen.
I don't know if anyone else is not seeing them and just not stated it. Or not had the time to read the story and haven't noticed it.
-
I did take a look at your story and was not able to see most of the images. It is strange. I would've attributed it to a bandwidth issue if you used Photobucket, but since you don't, I'm not sure. You might want to make a separate thread on that, if you haven't already.
-
I'm going tomorrow redo the photos and see if removing them and then putting them back in will fix the problem.
If not, they I will go I guess to technical help and find out what to do.
I have seen this a lot on the Showboat thread, and it is frustrating, I want to see what a house, garden or whatever looks like and can't, so don't know if I want to download it.
EDITED: I couldn't wait to see what I could do to fix it. Please someone let me know if they are showing up.
I don't know why this would matter, but the only thing I can think that happened is that I was going through the photos in the Gallery and deleting some that has copies, I accidently uploaded it twice.
I guess in my deleting I deleted both copies for all of the ones that are not showing up are the ones that I don't have their photos anymore. I re-added them and then copied them as normally done to the story.
It looks fine to me, but I would appreciate it if someone could check and let me know whether or not they are there.
-
I only see two pictures not showing in Chapter 7.
-
You don't have to check right now, just when you feel like it, but I am seeing all of the photos in that chapter. Could you check again and let me know which numbers they are? I will just redo them even if I can see them.
-
Right after "For a wedding present I gave Kearney..." The first two pictures show up as red question marks.
-
I've replaced them, hopefully now they will show up right.
I am going tonight (I hope) put in where she gives birth and the fun that ensues. And I swear, I did not set any of it up, it just seemed to happen. Really, really weird, but cute.
-
One of the stories reminded me of a problem that many of us face in the town jumping, finding a mate for our heir due to the lack of pregnancies and births in some of the towns, such as in RV.
I am wondering if this might work. To start a new game, play a couple and have them have children, at least one if not more and then save them to the bin. When you move to the town you can move the family out (to the bin) and replace them with the saved family, who are original townies, but who have offspring.
Wonder if that would work. It could be done with several families.
I think I will try that with some of the families in RV to see how it will work. Set up a test town.
Edit:
I have my sim couple who have a possible heir. The problem is, she has aged up to a teen and has (at least to me) an ugly mouth, and neither of her parents, nor does her father's twin brother have the same mouth.
Can I please change her mouth? I searched, and unless I missed it, I haven't found anything that states either way if I can change her mouth. She isn't a very pretty girl, and I have already been considering having another baby with this family, but still, I really, really feel sorry for her to have such a mouth when the other members of the family doesn't.
-
The house I moved my family into, is having a ton of issues. There's a glitch where none of the lights will turn on, and a TON of routing issues. Can I move to another house in the town?
-

Yes, go ahead and move. I had to do that with my Crosby family once.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply! ;D

You can do as Ausette did in her story and get several townies pregnant before your family moves to that town. That should help provide a spouse for your heir.
I would rather you not change any features on your family. Part of the premise of this challenge is to see how the genetics change from town to town. My Crosby family had some very ugly family members...and some beautiful ones.
-
*Sigh* I guess Amaryllis gest stuck with an horrible mouth. It wouldn't be so bad if your face was big enough to handle it, but she had a narrow face and it looks as if from her eyes down all she is is a huge mouth.
I have started a new game in RV, even though it isn't my next town and am going to get several of the women pregnant. That way, there will be more young ones for my heir's child to know and find a mate.
I am going to confess that I am hoping I can find a way to have the heir marry George Dean. It will be a townie, so using nefarious methods, perhaps I can find a way to make it work. ;D

Is there a way to take photos/images off the internet and add them to a chapter in my story?
I want to add some photos for effects and the story plot to give it some umph. Can that be done? I have never tried to put images from the internet into anything. Printed out copies to be used a couple of times, but not add them to anything, especially like I would in my story.
I feel that my story is a bit bland, there is no sizzle to it. Things that I would like to add, that would give it some life I can't do because either I don't have the expansion packs that would let me, or I have no way to add them.
This, however, I think will help my story, fit in with what I would like to write for a chapter and to have for later chapters before my family moves to the next town.
-
There is no way that I know of to add a picture directly from the Internet to your post. You would have to save the picture to your computer and then add to the Gallery to put in the post. There could be copyright issues however with getting pictures from the 'Net.
-
The ones that I copied all states that they are free to be used. One site even asked that no links be given, he didn't have time to respond to inquiries so just to enjoy however wanted.
The others came from sites that also stated free and I have seen copies of them in other sites that have free ones.
Any that have a title, whether person, game, website or any other writing typed in or attached to it, I didn't save to my desktop.
Got permission once to use some photos in a newsletter I used to put out, years and years ago. I didn't want to break any laws accidently so found out what to do to be able to use the photos. Dennis the Menace, for a newsletter on children who have special needs in the area of ADHD, BP and other; all mental, not physical. They gave me permission to use four photos a year.
Anyhow, I was careful to not take any that have the least bit of copyright so as to not cause problems.
So I am gathering that with them saved to desktop I download them to the gallery same as I would any other photo.
Thanks for the help. My story needs some life to it.
-
I'm curious, wondering if there are some who are doing the jump but not posting their story.
Mine is bland, and I have reached a roadblock in being able to write what I want. Partly I can't do what I want to do to give it the umph that it needs. I don't know whether to toss it into the trash or just do it without writing it and then posting that I have finished, with a quick note on each heir for each town.
Are there others who are doing the jump and not posting a story?
-
I usually have three Random Town Jumps playing at a time and I move to a different one every couple days or so. I don't feel like I can really write so I just narrate the one, Winterly Town Jump. I haven't written on it lately due to illness.

Hello, I started this challenge with the Elson's in Starlights Shores, Frist Chapter is http://sims3randomtownjump.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/chapter-one-introducing-the-elsons/ (http://sims3randomtownjump.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/chapter-one-introducing-the-elsons/), I tried to do it in the forums but it's easier for me to do it on the blog

I saw that you have made a great start on this challenge and I have it bookmarked. Good luck with it!

Would I be able to have a spouse/heir be of a life state other than human? There is a vampire in town that I'm targeting for my heir, and I can cure him if I need to. I thought it would be interesting to have some vampboos.

Sure, that will be fine. I would be interested in how it works out.
-
sky,
I read the first chapter and I enjoyed it, especially the way you blended in giving their traits. I hadn't thought of blending them into the story telling and I think it gives an aspect of meeting someone and getting to know them.
I might borrow that concept for some of my sims offspring.
I'm not one for joining forum so I can post responses, but I will bookmark it so I can continue to read it. I'm not even big on posting responses, but do try to let the author know I am reading it from time to time.
-
I have seen other supernaturals such as fairies in a story, so vamps could be interesting.
I have a sim family that I have their story on hold with a male sim whose father was kidnapped by aliens and impregnated. I wasn't too happy, but oh well. The child was at YA stage when I set the story aside to do this project. I am thinking of playing him to YA, move him out and then put him in what I see as "cold storage" (the bin). When my sim family moves to that town, I may take him out at the needed age and see if I can work in a relationship. His grandfather was a townie who married a created sim, their son married a townie and he had just reached YA as I was deciding on him or his aunt to be the heir when he was abducted.
Talk about supernatural mixups, LOL. Founder a fairy marries a human. They have human (male) and fairy (female) offspring. Human marries a human has son. Fairy marries a werewolf and has son who is a were. The human offspring gets kidnapped and is impregnated.
All I needed was a vamp and a witch to marry into the famaily to round this story out for all non-human beings in this family. ;)
Good luck with the vamp joining the story. Looking forward to reading it.
-
I've a couple of questions.
My O'Shea family will be soon leaving DV. I have yet to decide if I will continue playing them but however I go, the twins are at the YA stage and so I will be needing to decide who will find a mate and what to do about the other one, plus the adopted daughter.
Either way, they are from a different Town Jump and so I am wondering if it would be allowed to take say Amaryllis and whoever she marries (say John Doe) and when she had children to set them aside and add them to the town when my Cage family moves there? Wouldn't they be considered townies?
Take her parents and give them the fountain of youth, have them get pregnant and then move them out, let Amaryllis and Byrom find mates and get them pregnant and when I go to move my family there, there will be plenty of children for them to pick out a future mate.
Even Fiona, who is a townie could be married and have a baby on the way to help add to the population. It doesn't mean that the heir will marry one of them, for there are some other children there, depending on the age of the heir's children when they move there.

I would really prefer to use the townies generated by the game. The challenge of this game is meant to be to see how EA townies in each world contribute to/change the genetics of the founding family. Creating or recreating "townies" defeats that purpose.
-
The heir will find a spouse before moving to a new town.
Just to clarify: the heir does not have to marry until in the "new" town, just as long as the spouse comes from the "old" town? Or does the marriage have to take place in the "old" town?
-

The heir can bring his/her fiancé with him/her and marry in the new town.
-
hummm,
Must have hit the wrong key
On the families, no big deal, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
I can get Gunter, Gunner or whatever his name is (can't remember) and his RI to marry and have kids. There is also the "Robin Hood and Maid Marion" couple and the "Red Riding Hood" and her hubby who can have kids which will add to the town.
I can also have the family stay long enough in whatever town they are in and have them have a baby, and let the kid be close to aging up to toddler before I move the family.
-
Curious,
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? In my Cage story, there are the triplets, Samantha, Sabrina and Jared.
What is weird is that one day when Jason was visiting at their home Jared walked up to Sabrina and did the flirt actions. They held hands, did the swaying back and forth and had the voice of two people flirting.
Two other times that Jason has visited and he was talking to Sabrina Jared walks up and has the popup that Jason is acting inappropriately, and if he continues he will need to leave.
I tried to have Jason flirt with his sister, and none of the romance actions came up, he couldn't hold her hands or do anything.
Is this just a weird glitch of that family? It's weird, Jared gives him the evil eye and Sabrina sends him love letters and gifts.
Never had anything like this before, so was curious if anyone else has experienced it.
Truthfully, I think it is one of those weird glitches, such as the maid fixing waffles.
-
Hmm, I'm guessing it's some kind of glitch. Are Jared and Sabrina still registered as brother and sister? If not, their (assuming it is) high relationship could be causing them to flirt. If they are still brother and sister... um, well that's just messed up! I've had some weird glitches before -- like in my DecaDynasty, I had two teens that got engaged, even though I don't have any mods that would allow you to do that.
As for the acting inappropriately... I'm not sure. Which social interactions in particular was Jason using? If he was doing mean interactions then that's maybe why. Sims find some odd things inappropriate. My Sim made tried to make the Altos a tasty meal and she got kicked out. If one of my friends came over and said "I'm going to make you Mac and Cheese", I'd be delighted! Sims, eh? ::)
-
Their not my family, so I haven't tried to see if I could find a relationship for them with each other.
Jason was talking at that time to Sabrina and she had the popup that she liked Jason, or something like that, no negative popup.
Same as with her parents, both had the like Jason popup I think either just before or after Jared showed his disapproval. He has never had any type of negative from either of them. They have wanted to throw water balloon fights, build snowmen, other type of interactions, but nothing that was negative.
Braden, now he has been different, but their neg ones have been when he was alone with them, Jason would be talking to either Jared or one of the girls and it is obvious toward Braden.
I think it is a glitch, was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen.
As for sims getting engaged, I need to check out the relationship with Samantha, I think he had the option to ask her if he could spend the night. I don't know if that is normal. Need to find how far it can go. They are both still in high school. She is two days ahead of him from how it has played out.
He went over one day and she was a child, two days later he went over and she was a teenager. Two days later he aged up and I had them start the romantic interaction, they flirted.
Been weird glitches with this game. Both Brigit and Marcus got stuck outside when I sent them to the Festival. I couldn't see either one of them, not even their plumbobs I think it is called (the green diamond shape over their heads). I could hear them yelling when ever I clicked on them, but that was all.
That was a time when I brought the game up to check on something and wanted to get a photo that I really needed but had missed as I was too caught up in the game. I had them on static, so I don't know if they would have died of not, it was two sim days they were stuck. No panel showed up for either one of them either. Just their photos. Weird
Tried resetsim several times and it didn't work, no click arrow to send them home, it was as if they were home but they couldn't do any interactions. Sent them to their dressers hoping that would work, nope. The only thing that did was when the bus came for Brigit and the car for Marcus then they broke free.
Weird

Hello everyone, I have another chapter for the Elson's,
http://sims3randomtownjump.wordpress.com/2013/08/08/chapter-two-happy-suprises/
I will now be updating on Thursdays
-
Another problem with my Cage family. I have had to do some blending and a slight bending of the rules to keep from losing my family.
For some reason, after they married, Jason and Samantha, I couldn't control her. I could tell her to go and get something to eat, shower, potty but that was it. I couldn't tell her to go to bed, to go anywhere.
Saved and tried again, same problem. Went to an earlier save before they married, had them do the romancing and marry again, thought that would help. It didn't. Married them and moved them out, that didn't work.
Desperate, I took the Singh family, from an earlier time when played where the triplets were teens and moved them to MV. There, I aged them up to YA and moved Samantha out, giving her the traits she had from the game in MF. Saved her in the bin.
Went back to the earlier save, before Jason had aged up to YA, and evicted the Singh family not putting them in another home. Moved the Cage family into the Singh home. Took Samantha and moved her into one of the starter homes. Sent Jason to meet her and while he was there had him age up there, wasn't sure if being aged up in his original home could be a factor.
Invited her over the next day, she comes over they romance and later on, he proposes and they get married. Played some more and no problems.
I took the traits that he had rolled from the first time and gave those to him. Didn't take any new photos, am going to use the ones from earlier times. Especially the second marriage attempt.
I'm going to have to go to an old save and try to find the house I remodeled for Braden and bulldoze that house and replace it with the remodeled one. I hope that isn't the game I deleted :(
Which I guess lets the cat out of the bag that he will be staying in MF. If he hadn't been a loner along with Insane, I would have given him more consideration for heir, but he was so stressed out all the time when around others then add in the insane aspect and I couldn't do that to him. He isn't like Luke is in his story; he has such a happy go lucky nature it works for him.
If everything is fine, then tomorrow I will be posting the birthday party, the romancing and marriage ceremony. I hope I can do them all tomorrow, anyhow.
-
YEAH! ! ! !
It seems fine, had the wedding at a "romantic" spot, no problems in controlling the bride and all seems to be working fine.
An interesting thing, though, not with this town, but with another. To take a break I decided to work on one of my "seed" families in another town. The male is coming home from being out late at night and as he goes up the walkway to the house he is kidnapped. No space rocks, no telescope for stargazing, I had just started the family and the female was pregnant.
He is returned and the female goes into labor the next day. Two days later he gives birth to a cute little girl. Now I have with that family so far one full human male infant, one alien female infant and I had the mother get pregnant again.
I don't plan on using the alien child as a mate, for me it would have an affect on the genetics, but just curious if it would be allowed. Plan on saving her to be used in a game sometime that isn't a project game.
-
I had that happen to me but I just let her live her own life when she grew up because I didn't want to mess up the townie genetics.
-
That's how I see it, I don't want to use her in this game, but I will definitely hold her back to be used in a non-project game.
This seed town is having some interesting events. First the alien baby, then another sim in the town that I switched to has a roommate, they both have other RI, but they start to put the moves on each other. Checked, and the female's RI is already at elderly stage, married and she has just aged to Adult.
The male, he is two days from aging up to Elderly and his RI is a vampire.
My new couple immediately got it on, married them and he gets a naughty reputation. Send him to break up with the RI and when he gets back to his new bride, he accuses her of cheating. Sheesh. ;D Peyton Place should be the name of this town. It took some sweet talking, but they made up. Babies are on the way.
I have three more towns to "seed" and I want to do another couple in one of the other towns and I think I will have all seven towns seeded.
And I need to focus on the next town to visit, instead of these other towns. I have to get it ready.
-
Hello everyone, I have another chapter ready. Also would anyone vote if I held an Heir poll
http://sims3randomtownjump.wordpress.com/2013/08/13/chapter-three-toddler-skills-and-baby-bumps/
-
Great update! You should actually create a new topic under Project Stories instead of using this thread. This one is for questions, etc. about the Random Town Jump. I like your blog. It looks good.
-
Curious if this would be confusing, frustrating or fill in the blank if when I start posting about the new town I put the Name there and then start the Chapters at one.
Example: Cage family Random Town Jump M. Falls, Town 2 Ch 1 (not sure exactly how I put the title, but it is close enough)
If I go by the order that I have now, it would be Chapter 15
-
That sounds like a good idea. Then, everyone would know how far the journey has progressed.
-
I am seriously considering going outside and beating my head against the brick wall of my house.
I just commit the one thing you should NEVER do when playing games, forget to save.
Six (6) hours of work lost. I sent her to China to get the stir fry recipe and she disappeared on me. Lost everything I had done because I hadn't saved once.
I will have to repeat it all, but I will add in photos of two events that most likely won't repeat.
Seems zombies now like to swim in pools. And of course, one had to die at the slide and the other just before she entered the yard.
I used to not have problems with them opening gates, they would stand at the gate and yell and moan, but never open it. Now, after the moaning and clawing motions, they just open up the gate and come into the yard.
Head straight for the pool with the waterfall and play in it or the slide. They don't change into swim suits, they jump in in their clothes.
-
Another question.
I have read remarks of the midlife crisis, I am wondering, is there a set guide on that, can we do it as soon as they get the points? Or have to wait a certain time to do so, such as when they are adults or elders?
What about changing just their favorites, such as colors, foods and music?
Another questions on LTW
In my Cage family, Marcus is a cop. He went for the International Spy. Could later down the line, if a sim wants to be a cop but wish for the DNA section, can he or she have that as a LTW? Or is that seen as the same and another LTW have to be chosen?
-

The midlife crisis reward can be used at any life stage...as long as as they have gotten the points...without cheating.
Different divisions of a Lifetime Wish are considered a separate Lifetime Wish.
-
It is confirmed, my Cage family has somehow been cursed.
I started back playing the family, saved it and sent Marcus to China for an opportunity. He didn't show up. No problem, I had saved it, right? Well, when I clicked to get out, out of habit I say yes to save town. That overrode my last save of just before he left, so now I have to go to an earlier save, which had bee over an hour and half back. A lot had happened in that time.
I have tried other families sending them to China and they make it there fine, it is just the Cage family for some reason can't go back to China. Which I guess will remove some of the LTW that require traveling to China *sigh*
I think it is connected to the sink hole in front of the house in MF. They had no problem in going to China before it happened. The after they came back it was quite often someone would sink into the ground there and just disappear. Resetsim worked to get them back most of the time. One time Brigit didn't come back with the reset, but when the school bus came to pick them up for school, off she went and came home, whole.
I'm keeping this family and going to continue them but am seriously thinking of buying a timer and doing another family where every 15 or 30 minutes I will be reminded to save.
And I want to do one where if I do use the Midas Touch it is very limited. Same with such items as life fruit and the Fountain of Youth. Such as if I use it when they become Elder and it takes them back to YA, then I think I can use the Instant age to take them to Adult, not sure so need to check it out.
I'm adjusting to the normal lifespan. I have always played on a much longer lifespan, YA, Adults and Elders had 45 days, teens had 25, children had 20 and toddlers had 9, one day for each book.
-
I'm sorry about your game problems, Janna. Did you notice Rule number 2: Normal Life Span?
Edit...sorry I misread what you said. You are on normal...bad on me.
-
Looking back, I worded it in a way that was confusing, so it is understandable you thought I wasn't playing on normal.
Finding it interesting to play with that "restriction".
-
Another wondering if this is allowed. I thought I had read somewhere what we could do in that area, but couldn't find it, so checking.
I am so frustrated with the Cage family, most of in MV is my fault, I keep forgetting to save and then lose several hours work.
Anyhow, due to being so frustrated with them, I am going to work on another family. Talk about being surprised, I rolled for the town jump to start in MV. Chose a couple that have a RI and are living together.
The only problem I see is that their home is so small, and there is no room to go up. It is a 20 by 15 lots.
Are we allowed to move them one time to a lot or a house that has room for another bedroom to be added?
Or do we have to keep them where they are and find a way to make it work? Can't find where it says what we are to do.
Hoping I can move them, but not going to hold my breathe ;D
I need to go to bed, can't stop yawning
-
Yes, you can move the Founding Family to a house...that they can afford...to accommodate a larger family. See the start up rules for adding any needed Simoleans.

Wow, you chose the Elsons too! I started my Town Jump just the other day and chose the Elsons as founders.
-
Just a few questions. My Town Jump heir is now a young adult but her spouse-to-be is still a teen. Can she wait for him to age up (He's no more than 6 days younger than her) or does she need to frantically find someone else?
Can we move family members out once we move to the new town and build the rest of the family an affordable house as well? What I'm thinking of is buying the heir and her spouse a house, bringing the whole family with them and going into edit town before I place them to build them an affordable house. Would I be able to do that?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Does the spouse have to be an original townie of the neighborhood or can it be someone who moved into town?
-
I'll give my two cents on it and Judewright can correct me where I am wrong.
For the heir, I would look for another mate while you wait for your chosen mate to age up. If you find someone, you can grab that townie and not worry about having a mate for your heir. You can work toward your heir's LTW, reading skill books or working on what is needed, such as athletic skills, that are required for the LTW.
I know that you can do either with family members, take them with you or leave them, except the parents, they have to go with the new heir and their mate.
I think you are allowed to move them to a temporary home, I did that, while the home I had planned for them was being finished. I had a home that I had built for an earlier game but needed some tweaking, so I moved them for a day to a very small starter home and then moved them to their new home. I had gone ahead and moved them as I wanted to get the female pregnant and was having problems in the old house (don't like moving pregnant sims).
Since they had over $300,000 I had no problem in finding them a home, just wanted to do some changes to make it easier to take photos. Put the house on a bigger lot (went from 30 x 30 to 40 x 40) which also allowed me to move the house to a better position, no longer in the middle of the lot.
You don't have to take your home with you, you can do so or find a new one, and you can remodel it at any time, as long as you have the funds and don't have to use the cheat to get the money.
Hope that is helpful to you, these can be fun to do, even though I am having trouble with one family and now lots of trouble with traveling; which I think is connected to installing IP, no proof except a correlation (which isn't causation).
Judewright can add in what I missed, correct me in any if I am wrong and I think it is okay for me to add in my two cents.

Thanks Janna, I think that's all of those answered. Can we move the parents out once we get to the new town?
-
Thank you, Janna! I believe you covered everything...and correctly :)
-
Thanks Janna, I think that's all of those answered. Can we move the parents out once we get to the new town?
The parents are kept in the home in the new town.
-
The parents are kept in the home in the new town.
Okay! That just means I'll have to wait a few more days before the heir can try for baby (5 kids, all younger than my chosen heir) but the second eldest is only a few days behind. Everything will fall into place.
-
A tip on the parents. While you are in your new town with them, they will at some point die. Put their tombstone or urn in your inventory and keep it with you so when you move you will have the whole family tree from founder throughout all the generations. You can see how much the genetics have changed, who looks more like a certain relative from various generations.
I would suggest that you leave them in the inventory, although you can set them out in the yard. Reason is, they will come out and interact with family members. Which can be fun, as it lets the kids see and talk to grandparents, but they also like to play tricks.
In a personal dynasty family I had the father-in-law enjoyed scaring his daughter-in-law. It affected the ability of my being able to choose the traits as she was scared so much by his antics that she didn't have a "good" pregnancy.
In the town jump projects we don't get to pick traits, but I'm not sure how much what the mother experienced while pregnant and what the sim experiences while growing up into an YA affects what traits they roll. Is it totally random or the programing goes with a good pregnancy, positive events during each stage can all lead to positive traits?
Someone here may know if these variables affect the outcome. Does a bad pregnancy cause the baby to have traits such as evil, mean-spirited and a good pregnancy to have traits such as brave, friendly?
Does negative events during each stage, being hungry, tired, getting into trouble, bad grades affect the traits that are given (rolled) for the sim?
-
I'm getting used to ghosts. The Jones' in Riverview have about five in their garden, so I'm kind of used to them. They're still really annoying, though.
A good pregnancy means you can chose one or both of the traits. The worse the pregnancy, the more likely you are to not be able to chose traits, and bad traits are more likely to be rolled.
Edit: Bad moodlets throughout the pregnancy and at birth determine the trait selection I think.
-
That's what had me curious. This is the first time I have played games that I didn't get to pick the traits, all of my sims pregnancies and at each stage I have had control and I am a goody-two-shoes, I never pick "bad" traits. So I was wondering how events factored into the traits.
One of my sim children for some reason hasn't been doing well in school, she has kept C's and only one B, so I am wondering how such events affect the trait choices. If she were to skip school, be out past curfew and such does it then roll only negative or middle ground traits?
I asked this on the discussion board as I am really curious, not concerned, just curious. I am always wondering the why and what ifs, drives everyone crazy at times.
-
I haven't been able to find anyone that is eligible to become the heirs spouse except the planned one, who happens to be still a teen. I remember him being a bit older than the game says and I think he may have been hit with a non-aging bug. On the 7th day after Luna's birthday, would it be alright to cake him up and keep track of his age (Providing he hasn't aged up). He's definitely not an NPC.
-
Yes, that's fine.
-
I have a problem (what else is new?). Due to the traveling problem with my game, it is affecting the LTW that is offered to my sims.
Example is that in my one family one of the kids who just aged to teen has the traits of neat, neurotic, easily impressed and disciplined. I did a test and saw that he would, with just those traits have the choices of
Physical Perfection (which requires Martial Arts from WA)
Martial Art Master (also from WA)
Alchemy
Bottomless Nectar (which requires WA)
and Astronaut (which is what his mother has)
So, that will leave him with just one choice. Alchemy
I can't due to the problems in traveling use any LTW that requires WA, but I don't want to uninstall the game. It is a hit and miss if my sims can go there.
I already have the dummy for practicing and benches to do the board breaking, but in order to do the sparing I think the sim would need to go to China.
My sims are having to turn down any opportunity for WA countries, write a book, paint a picture, write an article for school, which I find irritating as they are losing a lot of points this way.
What happens if I end up with no choices for the LTW?
The problem remains that there are some LTW, such as Great Explorer, Private Museum, Seasoned Traveler, Visionary and World Class Gallery need WA to be achieved.
So, back to my question, if it comes up with the aspect that there are no choices, how do we roll again to find a LTW that can be fulfilled?
I am sorry to be so much of a problem. It is really frustrating to have this happen.
-
Yes, you can roll again. No problem. Sorry it took me so long to answer.
-
I am 90% sure that this is allowed, but want to make sure, read the rules and can't find anything that says we can't do this.
The rules are that we can not repeat a LTW of the heirs, if the LTW to be a surgeon is rolled and chosen, it can not be used again.
Is that for just the heir? What about the heir's mate? If my sim choses a mate that has the same career as her mother, then what? Her mother isn't the heir, she is married to him but is that allowed? And if the heirs mate had the same career as previous heir, how does that work? Their LTW, careers have already been chosen for them by the time the heir marries them.
I have a sim who will be the heir soon and the sim I have chosen for her mate is in the military, same as her mother. She will have a different career, Alchemy. Her father, who is the present heir, is an author. Founder was in music (the Lombardi family) and I have already chosen Alchemy for her, she has shown an interest and has some of the required traits. Plus, it is one of the two possible choices, others involved WA activities.
I'm figuring that this is something that has come up and I may have missed it, but decided to still ask; it is only the heir's LTW that can't be repeated, not other members of the sim family, including the mate to the heir. Such as Hit Movie Composer was chosen for Gizetta, but she wasn't the heir. It can be chosen for a later member of the family, who will be the heir. Is that allowed?
*********************
On a side note, it seems that after removing SEA and all my old games, especially ones that had larger files, many of my problems with my game have stopped. I haven't checked out the WA ones yet, worried it could be connected so am planning on doing a check with the family after they jump to the next town. Will go to a couple saves in the old town and see how it works.
-
Only the heir LTW counts toward the restriction. Others may have the same LTWs.
-
I'm going to do some changes in my Lombardi family. I haven't found in the rules if it states we can't change who the heir is before a child is born. In my case, if Skylar was my heir and she had a child, then I could not change it to Garrett. But I don't see where I can't change it to Garrett and have him as the heir since Skylar and Joe don't have any children yet, nor is she pregnant. He had been my preference, but due to the problems I had had earlier, I was going with the first one who gets married will be the heir.
I believe the problems are fixed, removing SEA and almost all of my old games has stopped the weird events (I hope). Just too much for my computer to handle, is the only reason I can come up with.
It seems that several families that I seeded before I uninstalled SEA have had some quirks that stayed, such as the Hoppcraft, the sibling were romantically involved with each other, sisters kissing, so I am deleting them all and redoing my seeded towns.
With Skylar and Garrett, I had saved it, moved him out and then saved it. I just went to the save before he was moved out and played for a while. I was surprised at what had I had learned, at what had changed for him and especially the events that came about. ;D Pleasantly surprised
-
You can choose any child to be the heir.
-
I've been wondering, with Into the Future coming out soon, will Oasis Landing be an allowable world for adding to the cycle for town moves? Or will it just be considered another travel destination you can go to?
-

I don't know much about this town yet. In fact, I didn't even know that Oasis Landing was the name of it. It all depends on how EA has it set up. If it is like World Adventures towns (or University) it will be a travel destination. If it's like Ambitions (Twinbrook) it will be playable and thus be able to be used in my challenge project.
-
Well it does say in the blog post that unlike the WA locations and University, once you travel to the future world through the time portal, you can stay as long as you want. But I fully realise a final decision will have to wait until the expansion comes out and been played a little.

Yes, I read that also. It doesn't look like we'd be able to start in the new town. And, does it even have "townies?" I still have a lot of questions about it. I have pre-ordered so as soon as I get my copy you can bet I will be trying it out! The best I can say right now is, "At Your Own Risk." Oh. I just remembered that's my boyfriend's birthday. It might be a day or so later before I get it installed.
-
Heh it's okay. I'm still a few expansions behind anyway. And after getting a new hard drive, I need to do a full reinstall too.
-
Okay, so Cressida Wells didn't have any luck in getting a boyfriend or a husband. The option for trying for baby did not appear so it looks like this town can't be used for the jump at all. It's too bad they can't try for baby though.
-
Hi, I lost my previous family but I have re-started this again in Moonlight Falls with the Hopcraffts
-
Thank you for letting me know. I be watching for it!
-
Well my computer crashed losing all the data on it and I lost the Hoppcrafts but I started a new random town jump in Lunar lakes with the Goode Family.

I decided to try this. I just got some new towns that I haven't played yet and this would be a good way to explore. So what town did I roll first - Sunset Valley. Really?!?!

That's good isn't it? At least you'll have a familiar name throughout all of the moves ;). Good luck!
-
My computer died and I had backuped my saves but for so reason the ross's didn't transfer over, my other legacy did, I am going to start over and the frist town I rolled was barnacle bay, I have never used that town so it should be intresting and now I have 18 Gens to get through as I just purchased the new town.
-
Sorry to hear about your computer...and the loss of your family. Good luck with your new start.
-
The sim I plan to be the heir in my new town was born with only one trait. Is it okay if I send this sim into CAS and add another one? It would be randomized of course.

Problem with last town, will need to pick another town.
I am a bit frustrated as the last town is to be IP, as I had just bought it when I started this project.
I have been playing it to get the feel for the town and am having problems playing it, it is lagging so much that it has taken me an hour real time to play just a few minutes of sim time. Example, sent my sim to bed, it took fifthteen minutes real time for him to sleep, and to send him to shower just as soon as he got up it was three minutes from the bed to the shower, which should have taken maybe three seconds real time. He fixed dinner and it took an hour real time for him to fix mac and cheese and sit down at the table to eat it.
There is no way I can move a family of five or more to that town and play with a couple who must have a heir born who will be raised to adulthood. And to have the ending I want, one of my two "heirs" will have to find a mate, marry and have two children who will grow to adulthood, both find a mate and one of them move to the final town.
I am going to have to send them to another town. But to get the finish that I want, I will have to allow the first heir, after he marries and gets his heir, let that child age to adult before moving him or her to IP and find a mate there. The second "heir" will have to be moved to IP as soon as she is a YA and she will marry her (pre-chosen) mate; then I will have to move them to the replacement town. Then let them have their two children and move one back to IP and send the second heir, her mate and their heir to the final town.
Frustrating
Adding to that, I accidently deleted the save files of the founder family in MV and MF when I was cleaning out old files. I had kept the first save from them moving to that town, when a child was born and then the last two before the family jumped to another town.
hummmm, I think I have an idea; will have to mull it over, and see if will give me a better finish then what I have planned so far.
-
Not sure which is the best way to write the ending of the story, input will be greatly appreciated.
I am at my last town. The Lombardi family has arrived at IP and Tristan and Bella have their heir which is the ending of the story from the rules. Final town when the last heir reaches YA age.
My plans have for the main heir and mate, Tristan and Bella, to have a son (he has been born and he just now aged to child) and for my second heir, Skylar, to have found a mate and have two boys (accomplished).
In order to work out the story I want I am going to play them separately. As if they are two different games, the siblings, with their offspring will meet both randomly and at some planned events, but still be separate stories.
Here is what I am not sure of which is the best way to tell the story. Should I do Tristan and Bella's story with Keoni and after he reaches YA and finds his mate then switch over to tell the story of Skylar and her hubby and the raising of their two boys?
Or do I blend them in together as I play them, adding sections that are just of one family. Such as having a chapter that is of Keoni as he ages to child and starts to school and then the following chapter have one of the twins (Thomasso and Arika) as they age to child and start to school type of setup?
Most of you have written more stories than I have and so know which way will work best. I'm not sure which way is best, so feedback would be greatly appreciated.
-
I've seen people do it both ways. I personally think it would be better for the stories to be interspersed. That way, both of the stories are developing over the same period of time, instead of having a huge block of time with one family and then suddenly switch over to the other. I think it would be easier for the readers to keep track of the stories like that. I think it would be easier to have any cross-over stuff if the updates are blended together, if you ever wanted the two families to meet up at some point.
Congratulations on nearly finishing the town jump! :D
-
I had planned at first on finding a way to blend them in, but then realized that the only problem would be clothes and hairstyles. Yesterday I had Keoni at the park with his mom and he played tag with his grandfather. But off to the side was one of his cousins. He had no hair and was wearing an outfit that I would not have chosen; winter clothes in a warm climate!
To get them to fit, I think I will have to switch families after a birthday. Which can affect the opportunities, but not that a big of a deal.
Need to jump back to Skylar's family then, the twins had been born, were potty trained, learned to walk and talk and was getting ready to age up when I switched back to Keoni who was on day one of being a toddler.
-
Had to move my family from IP. The more I played it the lagger (not sure if that is a word ;)) it became.
I decided to roll for the town. I had considered SV for a couple of reasons but finally decided to roll and take whatever town was picked. It is MF so my two families are moving there.
As soon as the kids age to YA, I will move the families back to a new IP town. I have two choices in the area of future mates; take the kids who I had seeded, plus those who would be around their age, and age them up to YA. Or in the new and fresh town let them interact act with the residents who are already YA.
Suggestions as to which is the best way?
-
I am going to try this. I spend far too long in Sunset Valley and Riverview for my liking, and so this seems to be a good way to try other towns. (that doesn't mean that when I go to Sunset Valley that I won't be looking up Aggie, however
When I tried to follow the link in Jude's first post, it told me that site no longer exists, however I found one that does exist, it is
www.random.org
I've put in all 19 of my towns into random.org (I'm including Union Cove in it) and yay, my sims willl be in my newest town first up - Roaring Heights.
Boardwalks and Rollercoasters and Fixer Upper Cars, here I come.
-
Thanks for letting me know about the link not working. I'll fix it next time I go online. Probably later this morning.
-
Hi, well I got my computer back from the repair shop but wasn't able to transfer the darwins over as they had become corrupted, my computer is much better now and the graphic card has been upgraded so I will be starting a new rtj this time in Riverview with the Crosby, I will be summarise at the end of each Generation. I completed Gen 1, Here (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,19823.0.html) is the summary.
-
Does it matter when your founder gets married? I wanted Christopher Steel to marry Bebe Hart. It's Week 2 Day 6 in game and she STILL hasn't aged up. Could I cake her up when she's past the normal teen span?
Edit:
It's OK. I'd forgotten to change the life span from my last game. She just aged up.
-
I've heard of one and looked it up but couldn't seem to find anything. Help?

It's a project on our forum, made by our very own judewright. The rules are right here (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,12430.0.html).

Sure. I use one myself :)

Thanks for the quick reply and for sharing this project in the first place! I'm really enjoying it.
-
Before I start on this, I need a little clarification. So the heir in your penultimate town finds a mate and they move to the final town. They produce an heir who ages to YA and the project is complete. So does that mean that the genetics of the final town are not incorporated into the family?
-
That is pretty much left up to the player. Getting through all the towns in itself is quite an accomplishment. If you want to see how the genetics are affected by the final marriage, by all means go for it!
-
The final town I rolled is Isla Paradiso, so I'll probably decide if I should go for a final generation when I see how playable it is.
