Title: Setting the Stage for Maximum Moodlets

Setting the Stage for Maximum Moodlets

Okay, I confess...I am not being very creative with this one since it’s basically a carbon copy of the 2010 Tournament season finale. But, it was creative then! :) Seriously, it’s a really different and fun kind of event and there has not been any event since that has focused on moodlets — they’re kind of a unique aspect to gameplay and there are a whole bunch of new moodlets in the last 2 years, so it will be interesting to see how players stack up to NancyJ’s performance in the old event.

Goal
7 different Sims each represent a snapshot of +mood for the 7 different life stages. Your research and planning will help you “set the stage” to achieve the highest total +mood possible.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=7534.msg154279#msg154279) always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules

Scoring
Scoring is based on total moodlet value of a Sim (remember to subtract negative moodlets too) at a specific snapshot in a life stage. All household members must supply one stage score, but no more than that. So, for example, let’s say you choose your firstborn (or first adopted Sim) Sim to supply the Teen score. That same Sim could not also supply the Young Adult score. The Young Adult score would need to come from a different Sim.

Multiple snapshots of a given Sim for a particular life stage is fine. It’s not a “one chance only” type of thing—if one Sim has a Young Adult score of 200 and the same Sim in the same life stage later has a moodlet total of 225, then obviously take the best score.

Also, you only count moodlets unique to each Sim. So, if 3 of your Sims all had “Having a Blast” moodlets at the time of their snapshots, you would make a choice as to which Sim gets that moodlet. You would not be able to add "Having a Blast" to the total for 2 of the Sims. As long as a moodlet has a different name, then that qualifies for it to be scored (i.e. Good Meal and Great Meal are different moodlets).

Post your results in this thread and I’ll update the table, but do not mention moodlets. Just total up the qualifying different moodlets for each life stage.

"If the town you want to play in does not have an empty lot to build a home, then you are free to use Edit Town to make that happen."

Does this mean that your 2 Sims cannot move into a pre-made home?

No, not at all -- your choice...empty lot to build or pre-made home is fine.

So once a + Moodlet is used (counted) it is essentially out of play to be counted for the any of the other sims in the household snapshots?

Right. You could have 2 different Sims both "having a blast" when their snapshots are taken, but you could only count one since they have the same name.

Are we able to move sims out of the house once we have achieved their desired moodlet score?

There's nothing in the rules preventing you from doing that. BUT...if you move someone out and replace them, then the replacement also has to provide a stage score. You can't pass over any household member for scoring.

Thanks! It's still possible to score higher ;); I planned for more, but the execution of this one is... tough.

  • Create 2 Sims to start—their starting life stage is your choice.

I am new to Tournaments and want a small clarification here. Can I use pre-made sims without creating my own?[/list]

As far as I know, if the Sim is just a 'shell' i.e. pre-made and installed as a Sim, that's ok since the appearance of your Sim isn't important for challenges (though I usually want mine to look good, or at least not so bad that they turn me off when playing, lol), they don't start with any inherent advantages (skill points, inventories etc) and traits or LTW can be freely selected in CAS. Using Sims installed as households, however, wouldn't be allowed as they may already have skill points, inventories, career/lifetime happiness rewards etc.

Thank you. I was actually wondering about using a sim in a pre-made household. So that is not allowed and it makes perfect sense. Gotta go play now!

I just edited my score I had put an extra zero into my young adult score thanks for responding or I might not have realised. That would have been a pretty sweet score though wouldn't it.

Lol! Okay, there was a voice inside my head wondering if indeed you had done that. Whew...what a relief. I was trying to figure out how to approach you on that score. Hahaha

Rats... Still a score worthy of the leaderboard. I said I wanted to compete at the beginning of the year, but Metro just kept making the challenges more challenging. Well, that's his job! ;)

Strategy is not my thing. You and Drift seem to have it down!

I think I'll try this one. Maybe I won't finish it on time since I have a lot to do in the next couple of weeks (including moving to the other side of the Atlantic again) but still, it sounds like a lot of fun! And I need an excuse to procrastinate packing, so it comes in handy  ;D.

And that's a wrap on Maximum Moodlets. Great job, drift and thanks to all who participated. Everyone is now free to discuss what they did.

I'm now in the UK, so I don't have a full record of exactly what moodlets everyone had, but this is what I can remember... This was probably the most difficult challenge I've played so far; the amount of planning is really, really heavy! For ease of reference, I named all Sims based on the age I would snapshot them at. I started by creating my Adult Sim, who was a Witch, and Elder Sim, who was a Genie (a pair of YAs).

Although the challenge was not worded in this way, if you think about it, what you have to do is equivalent to the following question:

Given a list of every moodlet in the game, how best might I split as many of them as I can (in terms of value, of course) across seven Sims - one in each life stage?

Baby
Babies are quite restricted in terms of the moodlets available to them, as you'd reasonably expect. What they can have, however, would include
I made it a point to get all of them, by having my Adult Sim reach level ten of the culinary career and my "Elder" (at that time a YA) reach level ten of Science. After getting all the possible moodlets after numerous experiments, "Elder" switched to Education while Adult did Film (for the Film career rewards, which I'll discuss later).

Toddler
This was actually done last. I managed to obtain

The Rest
I'll group these by moodlet rather than by Sim; it's easier. I referenced the Sims Wiki to get an idea of what I could do. Basically, I generated the list of moodlets I was aiming for each Sim to have backwards from this, and based on the length of each individual moodlet planned the exact sequence of events required out. I can't quite recall everything I did, so I'll just detail some of the trickier ones that I got and how I managed to get them.

Needs Moodlets
Hunger: Good Meal (10 - 20), Great Meal (25 - 35), Amazing Meal (40 - 50), Divine Meal (75)
Each Sim can only have one of these; so I tested various dishes until I found something that produced the maximum value of each moodlet, and stored the plates in the food replicator.

Energy: Slept Like A King, Queen, Princess, Prince (40 each)
This is a little sneaky - you need four different Sims for this. Sleep in the Sultan's Tabernacle (special merchant item). I had a male Elder, female Adult, female Teen and male Child contribute the four elements to this score.

Energy: Well Rested (30), Slept Like A Star (20)
Actor's Trailer is given for reaching level 10 in the Actor branch of the Film career. I had the Young Adult contribute these moodlets.

Social: Enemy! (10, with Mean Spirited)
My Teen was mean spirited and I had her become enemies with a grown-up Baby to get this moodlet.

Social: Charitable (50), Fiendishly Delighted (25?)
Have a Good and Evil sim respectively donate to support / undermine charities.

Social: Awesome Party (20), Threw a Great Party (30), Sweet Venue Party (15)
Had these during my YA sim's Wedding Party. Legendary Host LTR and the party animal trait is what you'll want.

There are quite a few more for Social and Fun you can get like the Mechanical Bull or VR moodlets but I didn't manage to get them.

Life Status Moodlets
Spa: Nice Nails (15), Smooth Skin (30), Relaxed (75), Rejuvenated (100), Completely At Ease (75)
Get these from the Day Spa, but ALWAYS use the most expensive option to get the highest value moodlets. I had my Teen do all of these.

Sauna & Massage Table: Refreshed (20), Recover like a Sports Star (20), Inner Peace (20), Loose and Limber (20), Finding Nirvana (20), Pebble Prepped (20), High Fertility (20)
Just know which option corresponds to which (and know that some of them give the aforementioned spa moodlets too; don't use those!) I carelessly missed out one or two of these, from what I recall.

If you have the basketball hoop there are 70 more points available from that.

Work: Neighbourhood Hero (50)
I held my Adult Sim at level 9 of Ghost Hunting until it was time to shoot her snapshot. 2 or 3 days before that, I had her make the transition to level 10 and attend the ceremony.

New Objects: New Stuff! (30)
Have a Snob do this. Because of the Nectar moodlets, I had all my Sims be Snobs anyway (see later).

Self: Feeling Lucky (5)
Sure, it's only five points; but every point counts, and while this is random for Lucky Sims, a witch's Good Luck Charm hits the spot too.

Career: I Am The Greatest (25)
You need one of the Sims to reach level ten in the Thief track of the Evil career. I used my Adult for this.

Wishes: Fulfilled (40), Very Fulfilled (75)
The former is obtained by fulfilling a chain of wishes quickly as the moodlet starts at 15 (I think?) with a six-hour timer, but if you complete another wish within the 6 hours, the timer resets and the value of the moodlet goes up by 5. I saved up a bunch of easy wishes with my Child Sim and cleared it. The latter is obtained by completing a LTW and I used my YA to do that. Swimming in Cash is generally quite easy to fulfil "on-command"; before aging up, buy an expensive object and sell it back when you want to finish the wish (of course, be mindful you don't accidentally clear it partway!)

Laundry: Fresh Clothing (15), Very Fresh Clothing (32), Clean Sheets (10)
Use the laundry machine (upgrade it to score the bigger moodlet). Clean Sheets is obtained when sleeping in a bed after doing laundry (or apparently, a tent...)

Hot Tub: Ooo Buuuuuubles! (30), Exhilarated (20)
Have a Sim upgrade the tub with improved jets to push the bubbles moodlet to 30, and skinny dip in it to get Exhilarated.

Midlife Crisis: Supremely Fulfilled (30)
Use Young Again and Age of Instant about two weeks before it's time to do Adult's snapshot. Then do the midlife crisis properly.

Spectrum Moodlamp Stuff: 5 colors (5 each)
Didn't get all of these in the end (forgot a few). Don't do Blue as that gives a negative moodlet instead.

Full Moon: Lunacy (40)
The Child's snapshot was the most flexible so I waited until he got it (used permanent fullmoon cycle) and then used it. I think the moodlet triggers if fun is below a certain level and mood is below a certain level, so once the full moon came up, I used the moodlet manager to get rid of the negative moodlets and motive mobile to give him what he needed to to work properly.

Celebrity: Got Recognised (20), Had Star Tantrum (25)
The former is obtained by buying stuff at the consignment store or elixir shop and getting a discount; the latter from throwing one in the Actor's Trailer (level 10 film career reward).

Romance: Great Kiss (15), Kissed under Full Moon (20)
Permanent full moon makes the latter easy, and Great Kisser helps the former.

Romance: Newly Engaged (50)
Let's just say that an Adult and Elder can be newly engaged! In any case, if you need to refresh this moodlet, have the Sims break up and make up...

The Wedding: Wedding Day (40), F/M of the Bride (40 each), Parent's Blessing (20), Just Married (50), My Love! (20), Enchanted Love (10), Public Woohoo (20)
This entire chain is obtained by having the Young Adult sim throw a wedding party with the "Teen" sim (who has already been snapshotted and has now been aged up to a Young Adult), who is the daughter of the Adult and Elder.

Baby, Baby Oh: It's a Boy (80), It's a Girl (80), It's Twins (80), It's Triplets (80)
Yep, you can get all four of these - all on the Young Adult sim! Four days before the wedding day, you need to seduce a number of ladies and Try for Baby with them. There are special ways of getting each - but anyway to be safe, I had 7 illicit liaisons, with two aimed at fulfilling each of the first three and one at the last one.

I ignored the entire Imaginary Friend and school categories; found it too meddlesome.

Environmentalism
My Teen was eco-friendly and in the last few hours prior to her snapshot, she did the various things like using the expensive washing machine, clothesline, sitting with a family member in the car, gardening etc. I missed out one or two of the moodlets though.

Vampirism: Sated (15), Sanguine Snack (50), Vampiric Vigor (15), Sparkly (5)
Adult Sim took a vampirism elixir a few hours before her snapshot. I did the scan, threw Jar of Potent Friendship on the target and bit. You get Sparkly from the Vampiric Sunscreen elixir. I could have scored 40 more here, though; I didn't know that you get +20 for drinking from a fairy, and also the weakened moodlet for a Sim that has been drunk from.

Werewolves: Werewolf! (30)
Young Adult Sim drank the werewolf elixir immediately before snapshotting to get this.

Fairies: Pollen Punch (50), Aura of Soothing (40), Flight of Felicity (20), Energized by Moonlight (40)
I didn't know there are a few more moodlets than this, though. Aura of Soothing starts at 20 but goes up as the Fairy gains magic skill.

Fountain of Youth: Wish Come True (50), One Day More (30)
Genie Lamp: Peaceful (25), Miserable (25), Eternal Joy (25)
Voodoo Doll: Smitten (20), Blessing (30)
Just do the necessary for these.

Alchemy: Golden! (15), Feeling Cured (25)
Midas Touch and Potent Cure elixirs respectively yield these moodlets.

The gypsy caravan and moondial apparently have moodlets but I didn't even think of using them.

Surroundings, Community and Abroad Moodlets

Fire: Torched (50)
You need a Daredevil Sim. Have a witch cast Fire Blast, and hope for the best! If it just singes the Daredevil Sim, quickly use Ice Blast and then a Fire Blast again.

You can get Read a Masterpiece for 20; I wrote one to be used but forgot all about it when it was time to shoot the snapshot.

Comfort: Comfy (80)
Sultan's Tabernacle + Couch Potato yields 80 points.

Lot: Beautiful Vista (50)
Ah, this was a tricky one. You must use Twinbrook - the Aerie Supply lot for some reason has a 50-point Beautiful Vista moodlet attached to it.

Nectar Moodlets: Astonishing Aroma, Breathtaking Balance, Commanding Complexity, Fabulous Finish (35 each; got 3), Full of Life (50), Sugar Rush (15)
Snobs seem to gain a 10 point boost, so use it. Each Sim can only have one, so I tested various nectars until I had the moodlets I desired.

Travelling: Visit Egypt, France and China (15 each), Boosted Courage (25)
The three moodlets are different, so you'll need to settle them separately. Boosted Courage is obtained from drinking a Liquid Courage which is available from the special merchant.

All in all, a very tough challenge especially in terms of execution; you have to nail it quite precisely to maximise your score in most cases; and I leaked through at least 600 points (compared to the original plan; I think I had about 4900 planned points.)
