It was Autumn and the rain had been falling ever since I landed in the airport. The taxi honked as he pulled away from the curb and drove down the street. I watched him for a moment before picking up my bags and walking up to the fence. I took a deep breath before closing my eyes and pulling myself back to a memory.

"What's stopping you?"

I looked at Ryan, my perfect boyfriend.

"No one thinks I can do it." I told him.

"Then show them you can."

"Ryan, I'm the pretty popular girl who happens to be blonde. You really think anyone would take me seriously?" I asked getting up from my desk.

"So what, you're going to sit still and look pretty for your whole life?!"

I looked at him and sighed.

"I have dreams and feelings, but people don't see past that. I didn't ask to be pretty and popular."

"Then you go out and you show them your dreams! Babe, you can do this!"

I smiled at him, he motioned back to my laptop and I slowly walked back to it. He pushed my chair back in as I laid my hands on the keyboard.

"I cannot wait to read you first book." He smiled.

He kissed me softly before leaving me to it.

I smiled thinking about Ryan.

He was my first boyfriend, we had been together for three years at that point. He died on his way home, a drunk driver hit him from the side and he died on impact. I never got to say goodbye. I went into a whole of darkness for almost a year after his death. I stopped eating and lost a bunch of weight and I refused to touch my laptop. He inspired me and encouraged me to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. It's been three years since he died, I had graduated high school shortly after and worked at a grocery store. It wasn't until last year when I decided that Ryan wouldn't want me to give up everything. Not after he worked so hard to get me to write and show everyone that I had dreams. So I began to write again, and I found a publisher, and I even wrote a first book! It was on grief and how to get over the loss of someone special. I was no where near an expert on the subject, but I wanted to tell my story.

I then decided it was time to leave home. I lived with my mom who was a single mother, my father decided that he wasn't ready for a family and left us when I was three months old. I moved to a different city for a fresh start. So here I stood in front of my little trailer house. It wasn't much, but it was all that I could afford at the time.

I should mention that my name is Kayiln and I have dreams and feelings.

My dream is to become an author. I loved writing but never had the courage to act on it. I was the popular girl at school, nothing like the movie Mean Sims, but a lot of people looked up to me. Boys flirted, and nerds drooled over my looks. Everyone thinks that being popular was a breeze, but it was honestly exhausting. Having to play the role of someone who you were never going to be or even wanted to be. By the time I realized that though it was too late so I just kept going. Not anymore though, because now that I was a young adult I was going to become a writer.

The first thing I did once inside was unpack all of my clothes and such. I set up my laptop on this small desk, I opened it and opened the notepad. I stared at the blank screen before placing my fingers on the keyboard. I was working on a children's book, my publisher challenged me to step out of my comfort zone.

"Children's book..." I whispered.

I lightly tapped my fingers on the keyboard as I drew a blank.

"Show them you can."

Ryan's words filled my head as I began typing.

Before I knew it I had been writing for two hours. My stomach grumbled with hunger, I saved my work and closed my laptop. I stood up and walked into the kitchen before pulling out the things to make mac and cheese. The kitchen was small and it didn't have the best equipment or the best wallpaper. I'd eventually replace them once I had more money to do so. I slowly stirred the mac and cheese.

Living alone was lonely. I talked to mom once a week and she seemed to be adjusting to not having me there pretty well. She missed me of course, but she was doing okay. She was worried about me, but I told her that I was fine even when I wasn't sure myself. She told me that I should get a cat or a dog so I wasn't so alone, but I wasn't sure if I even wanted an animal. The house came with no washer and dryer which kind of sucked. Instead I had this washing bucket, so it was back to the old days with me. It was actually hard work!

I might get a side job so that I could afford a washer and dryer!

So my story begins here, in this little trailer. I was excited to see where the future was going to take me. But until then, I was going to sleep!

It is kind of short! But it's a start!

I decided to get out of the house.

I needed to find some kind of inspiration for a second book, and what better place to do it then a new town named Strangerville? I packed a small bag with some pencils and a notepad to take notes with. I took a taxi because it was quite a ways away. I decided to stop by a local bar once I got there and asked some of the locals what was so strange about this town. I jotted down the answers even though they were quite vague.

"Is anyone sitting here?"

I looked up to see a guy standing there.

"Uh, no!" I said.

"I'm Johnny, are you new here?" He asked.

"No, I actually live a few towns away." I told him.

"What brings you here?"

"I'm writing a book."

"You're a writer? That's neat!"

I smiled.

"What is your name?" He asked.

"Oh! Kaylin."

"Well hello Kaylin."

As the night went on more and more people showed up.

"The military troops come here a lot to wind down." Johnny told me.

"Are you from here?" I asked.

"No, but I come here a lot. There's a lot of cool people."

I nodded.

It was a cozy place.

"Well, I should get going. It's getting late." Johnny said a few hours later.

"Yeah, I probably should head home as well." I nodded.

"It was nice getting to know you, I would like to do that a bit more." He smiled.

I blushed.

"Here is my number." He said, writing it down on a napkin.

"I'll give you mine too."

I tore a sheet from my notebook down and wrote it before handing it to him.

"Awesome! I'll text you later!"

I smiled and called a taxi.

I normally didn't give my number to strangers, but we talked for hours and he seemed like a nice guy. I needed friends from around here, then maybe mom would worry less.

...

I miss Ryan.

I still have fleeting moments when I forget that he is gone. He was my one true love and I was going to marry him one day. Mom loved him to bits and loved having him around the house. He would help her with a few things that needed to be fixed. The drunk driver got life in jail, I remember going to visit him once with mom for some closure. He apparently just got served divorce papers from his wife and needed a night out. He thought he was fine to drive, but failed to see the stop light and hit and killed Ryan. I left the prison in tears, I thought by seeing him and hearing his story that it would help, but it didn't.

I chose to work through my grief by starting the mystery book.

What makes Strangerville so... strange?

I chuckled at my clever first chapter title. I opened my notepad and went over my notes before quickly typing away. It was such a relief being able to get passed my writers block and just let the words flow.

I had the first three chapters done in a matter of an hour and a half. I took a deep breath and stretched before going to work on more, until my phone buzzed.

Karaoke bar just opened, you in? -Johnny

I read the text three times before replying.

I'm down.

I saved my work and closed the laptop before locking up and heading to the new karaoke bar in town.

"You made it!" Johnny greeted.

"I told you I would!" I said.

We had to talk a little louder because the music was so loud the walls were vibrating.

"Want a drink?" He asked.

"Sure!"

"There's this new mint drink! It sounds gross, but it is actually pretty good!" He told me.

He ordered it at the bar and she handed it to me.

"Wow! That is actually good!" I agreed.

"I told you!"

We walked over to the karaoke machine, there was a woman on it already and I wish I could tell you that she was good. I smiled through it as she finally finished the song and stepped off of the machine.

"We should go." Johnny told me.

"What?" I asked.

"We should take a turn!"

"Oh no, I don't sing!"

"Come on! It'll be fun!"

Before I could argue he grabbed my hand and pulled me over to it.

"Johnny, I can't sing!" I panicked.

"You'll do fine." He told me.

"But-"

"Sing!"

The song started and I was freaking out. The last person to push me out of my comfort zone was Ryan.

We left the machine laughing.

"See! That wasn't so bad!" Johnny said.

We sat down at the bar.

"It was really fun!" I told him.

"So, that pearl. What does it mean?" He asked, motioning to my necklace.

"It was my grandmas." I smiled.

"It's beautiful."

"Thank you."

A Month Later

"Everything is so pink." Johnny noticed.

I giggled.

"Well, it is a romance festival." I told him.

"Yeah, I didn't realize that before now."

Johnny and I have been hanging out a lot. He was actually pretty hilarious. We liked to go exploring new places whether it was in town or in another town. We've been to Strangerville a few more times for more research for my book but still haven't cracked the mystery of it. I wasn't sure I even wanted too really because now we were starting to see people walking funny and I didn't want to... catch that.

"Oh my god." I gasped.

"What?!" Johnny asked.

"That is not Abigail Smitherton!"

"Who?"

"Oh my god it is! She is one of my favorite authors!" I shrieked.

"You should go get an autograph!" He told me.

"No I can't."

"Yes you can! Go!"

I stood up nervously before walking over to her. I awkwardly introduced myself and asked her if she wouldn't mind giving me an autograph. She was really nice and did it without complaints.

I almost skipped back to Johnny.

"I got her autograph!!" I screeched.

"See!" He laughed.

"I'm going to hang it by my laptop!"

He smiled.

"Tonight was fun." I said.

"It was, but I think we should head home. It's suppose to rain soon."

I nodded.

Once back home I immediately hung up the autographed picture by my laptop. I could not believe that I got her autograph! I talked too her! To make things even better I also applied for the writers career! I didn't realize that was even a job! So I could work on my own books and have a career doing other things with writing as well! New wall paper here I come!

Longer chapter! Hope you enjoyed the first one!

I finished the book on Strangerville but I wasn't sure if my publisher was going to be pleased with it. I felt like it was probably the worst ones of the ones that I have written. I texted Johnny about it once I sent it in.

I'm sure it was fine -J

I don't know, I think it's not going to sell very well. I couldn't get any information out of anyone there.

They're private people that's for sure -J

I'm going to go for a run.

After the run I got back home and took a shower.

DING!

I picked up my phone.

Bowling? -J

I smiled and told him that I'd be down for trying it. I went to the bathroom to finish drying my hair and reapplied my makeup. Johnny had become one of my best friends, I told mom all about him and she said that he sounded nice. I could tell that she was relieved that I had at least someone to talk too. The doorbell rang and I stepped outside closing the door behind me. I smiled at Johnny who had a taxi already waiting. He opened my door for me and I climbed into the back. We got to the bowling alley and it was decently busy but thankfully we found an alley that was open. After we changed into the ugly bowling shoes they give you we started playing.

"You want to go first?" He asked.

"No, you can go." I offered.

Truth was, I never really bowled before.

He got a spare, which wasn't bad for the first turn.

"Your turn!" He announced.

I walked over and grabbed a bowling ball.

"Have you done this before?" He asked.

"Not really." I awkwardly said.

He walked over to me and showed me how to hold the bowling ball.

"Now, there's these dots on the floor to kind of help you line up the ball." He pointed out.

I nodded.

"Then just wind up your throw and release!"

I swung my ball behind me and threw the ball down. It hit the wood floor with a loud crack and I was certain that it was going to burst right through the floor. I watched as the ball quickly moved closer to the gutter before going in.

"Darn it!" I said.

I turned around to see Johnny on his phone.

"Everything okay?" I asked.

"No, actually. I hate to do this but there seems to be an emergency at my house. One of my neighbors just texted me, I have to go." He said suddenly.

"Oh my! Of course! Let me know how it goes!"

He smiled before rushing out of the bowling alley. I put the bowling balls away. He had slipped off his shoes before leaving and I bent over and picked them up before heading over to the counter and returning the shoes. I put my normal shoes on before paying and heading home.

It was a few hours before I heard the doorbell ring. I walked over to it and opened it revealing a distraught looking Johnny.

"Hey." I greeted.

"Hi." He said.

"So, what happened?" I asked.

"My house burnt down."

I gasped.

"Oh my god Johnny! That's awful!"

He nodded, "I have no where to go. I'm going to try to see if I can find a hotel room, but they're so expensive."

I bit my lip.

"How long would you have to stay there?" I asked.

"Until I could save up for a new house." He told me.

I thought about it for a moment, it may be moving too fast but he was homeless. What could I do?

"Well, I mean I don't have another room and I might not be able to find room for a bed, but you can move in here if you want." I offered.

"You would do that?" He asked, shocked.

"You don't have anywhere else to stay, and a hotel would be ungodly expensive. You might have to crash on the couch though."

"I'd sleep on the floor, thank you Kaylin! Are you sure about this?"

"As long as you help out around the house."

"I have a job! I'll pitch in I swear!"

"Then we'll see how it goes!"

"Thank you!" He said, hugging me.

It turned out that he wanted to be a musician. Weirdly enough the last people to live here left behind a guitar so he practiced as much as he could.

"Have you played all of your life?" I asked.

"Ever since I was a kid yeah. My dad taught me how to play." He smiled.

"What about your mom?"

"Never knew her, she left when I was a baby."

My eyes almost popped out of my head.

"Not really funny story, but it's the opposite with me. My dad left when I was a baby."

"Small world." He chuckled.

I sat and listened to him play for a bit.

...

"Have you always wanted to be a writer?" He asked.

I nodded, "Yeah, but I never really pursued it until Junior Year of high school. My boyfriend Ryan convinced me to try."

"Did you guys break up?"

I looked down at the floor for a moment.

"He passed away, drunk driver."

"I'm so sorry."

"Thanks. I was always the popular girl, so I was afraid people would see it as a joke if I admitted that I wanted to write. Ryan convinced me to try and so I did, but after he passed away I stopped writing. It wasn't until a few years after that until I started writing again."

He smiled softly.

"Did you always want to be a musician?" I asked him.

"For the most part, I'd be happy doing whatever though." He told me.

I nodded.

"Oh my, it's already midnight." I gasped.

"Time flies." He said.

"Well, I will let you get some sleep. I hope the couch is comfortable enough."

"I'm sure it will be fine."

I watched him lay down as I walked to my bedroom and closed the door behind me. Was I crazy for doing this?

Thanks for reading!

Dear Kaylin,

I read your book on Strangerville.

I hate to break it to you that you were way off on my town. I've lived here all of my life and it saddened me to see such misinformation. There is more to our town then that bar, and I'm curious if you even spent time there. If you had done your research past the local drinking spot maybe you would have realized that this is a wonderful town. If you are ever in the area again I would be happy to inform you a bit more.

Sincerely,

A "strange" neighbor

"What?!" I gasped.

Johnny looked up from his paper.

"What's going on babe?" He asked.

My eyes widened and looked at him as he realized what he had said.

"Uh, sorry. Um, what is it?"

"This letter! Someone said they hated my book on Strangerville and said that my information was all wrong! I think they accused me of being an alcoholic!" I gaped.

He walked over and read the letter over my shoulder.

"Your first hate mail, I wouldn't read too much into it."

I huffed.

"I'm going to get a snack."

I decided to stay positive as I sat down with my chips and salsa.

I was bound to have hate mail from time to time. After I was finished and Johnny left for work I went outside to catch up on the laundry. Have I mentioned how horrible it is to do this in freezing cold?! As I washed the clothes I thought about what Johnny had called me earlier, he called me babe. But it wasn't the word exactly, it was how comfortable he was to call me that, like it was second nature. The more I thought into it I wasn't sure if it was how comfortable it was for him to call me that or the fact that I didn't mind him calling me that, that scared me the most. I secretly was starting to develop a crush on him. Now that he was living here we spent more time together talking and getting to know each other. We both had a lot of the same beliefs and we both knew how it felt to lose a parent by them leaving us. I was going to see where it led us, maybe it would work out to where we would start getting to know each other in a different way.

"I told you that your boss would love it!" Johnny said.

"It was the way that she said it too! Like she was proud of me!" I beamed.

"Did you call your mom?"

"Yeah! She was so happy to hear it."

"Well I hope that with this promotion you get to learn more about writing! Not that you need it, but I know that you are going to be one of the best authors the world has known!"

I blushed.

"Thank you, that means a lot."

He smiled, "You're welcome."

He was doing well with his career as well. He spent most of his time practicing the guitar and he was even slowly getting into writing his own stuff. I told him that it was a good thing to have before he got further along so that it would impress more people.

...

"GAH!" I groaned.

"Sink broken again?" He asked.

"No! This house is so small! I have nowhere to put things!" I huffed.

"Maybe it's time to think about moving."

I looked at him.

"I don't have that kind of money." I told him.

"We live together, remember? I can help too." He offered.

"I wouldn't expect that. I just wish I could fit at least a bed in here for you."

"Maybe that could be your resolution."

Tonight was New Years, and he told me that he already had his resolution picked out. I usually didn't really participate in any of that ever, but for him I was humoring him and told him I would think about it. We went out to the store to pick up some food and drinks. We planned on staying in tonight because we didn't feel like dealing with any parties. Were we getting old?

"I think we have everything." I told him.

We walked back into the house, arms full of bags.

"I'll help you put things away." He said.

"No, go find the channel for the count down." I told him.

He nodded as I started to put things away.

"Cheese okay?" I asked.

"Sure!"

I threw in a frozen pizza that we bought and set the timer before joining him on the couch to watch the program on TV.

"....6...5...4...3...2...1!!"

"Happy New Year!"

I cheered.

"Happy New Year!" I told Johnny.

"Happy New Year!" He replied.

He smiled awkwardly.

"So, what is your resolution?" He asked.

I groaned.

"I guess a new house would be cool. What's yours?" I asked him.

"For you to become my girlfriend..."

Bum bum bummmmmm

A Few Months Later

Johnny and I have been going out for three months. I never planned on having another boyfriend, or even thought that it would ever happen. Ryan was my last boyfriend and I was scared to give my heart away to someone else. Everything was going wonderful so far. We were getting along better than ever. Well, except for today...

"What do you mean?!" I scolded.

"Well I thought it was a way to bond better! I had found out in one of your books!" He told me.

"So you felt lying to me was a way to get closer!"

"I just wanted to connect!"

I was sure that the look that I was giving him could melt even the biggest of ice bergs in a matter of seconds.

"My father leaving me was the most painful memory that I have, and you chose to deliberately lie to me about your mother leaving?!" I screamed.

"I'm sorry." He said, defeated.

I shook my head and turned towards the room.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"To bed." I snapped.

"Where am I going to sleep?"

"The couch."

I slammed the door.

I couldn't believe that he lied to me and he had both his parents together. He wanted to connect with me?! I was so mad that I paced my room for an hour that night. I didn't get much sleep either because once the anger went away the guilt crept up, but I couldn't go out there and admit that. He was probably asleep anyway. So I waited until the next morning where I would talk to him. I decided to get out of bed pretty early the next day and found him already awake and sitting at the table. I bit my lip and slowly walked over and sat down.

"I'm sorry." I said after a bit.

"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lied to you about it especially since it is a tough subject." He told me.

"Can we go back to normal?" I asked.

"Of course."

"One thing though."

He looked at me curiously.

"No more lying."

"None. I will never do that again."

...

"I want to take you out tonight." Johnny said.

"You do?" I asked.

"Yes, I figured it's been a while since we sang." He smiled.

"Oh god no."

"It'll be fun!"

I groaned.

"Go get dressed!"

"What?"

It turned out he wanted to be fancy while we sang, well while he sang and while I screamed like an injured animal. I was horrible at singing and had no notes in my body. But it was fun to do as long as I had him to do it with. So I went into the bedroom and changed into my red dress, I slipped on my heels and we were off to the club.

The one person who actually gave time to listen to us sing surprisingly liked it. We sang a few more songs for him before heading to the bar.

"Two red wines please." Johnny ordered.

"Kind of a slow night tonight." I mentioned.

"We normally are a lot busier." The bartender commented.

"Slow nights aren't always bad." Johnny said.

"Not at all." The girl said smiling.

I made note to leave a decent tip tonight.

She poured the wine into wine glasses. I was honestly shocked that a club had wine, I pictured wine being more of a fancy dinner beverage.

"So, how is the books coming along?" Johnny asked.

"I've hit a block. But my boss gave me a website to check out that might help relieve that." I told him.

"That's good, I hope that it helps."

I smiled.

"Ryan would be proud of you, I know that he would."

I don't know why but him saying that brought tears to my eyes. I blinked back tears and thanked him. I wasn't expecting him to mention Ryan tonight or really ever but it was sweet of him to say that. It would be weird if he felt threatened by a person who was no longer here. Ryan would always be a special person to me and I think that he knows that. I took a sip of my wine before holding the glass up.

"This is really good wine!" I exclaimed.

"It's our most popular of our small wine selection." The bartender told me.

"Delicious!"

The next morning I woke up with a smile on my face. I walked outside to get the laundry from the line before spotting Johnny walking up the walkway.

"Where did you come from?" I asked.

"Went for a walk." He told me.

"Everything okay?"

"Yeah, just wanted to get some air."

"It is cramped in the house. I thought when I first bought it that it was going to be enough room, but even for me it is small."

He smiled.

"Hey, I had a really good time last night." I told him.

"I did too."

I had work in a few hours so I went to catch up on laundry before taking a shower.

"Okay, I am going to leave a bit early to beat traffic." I told Johnny.

"Have a good day at work!" He told me.

I gave him a kiss goodbye before heading out of the door. He was grabbing his guitar to practice more. All the hard work was paying off because I got a promotion!

It came with a fancy white button down shirt too!

Almost a hundred views! Thank you to my silent readers! I hope you are enjoying it so far =]

WHO ARE THE FIRE STARTERS?!

Another fire was discovered today making it the fifth house in a week to be vandalized. Local police officers and detectives are working hard to catch the criminals responsible for leaving five families without homes. Luckily, each of the families were covered with insurance, however they were still left without their homes. Temporary housing offered to those with no where to go as well as food programs. Locals have also reached out and volunteered their time to help those in need. Any donations of food, clothing, and other household items can be donated at the local police station! Be weary of your surroundings and please watch for any signs of these criminals. More information will follow when we have it.

"Did you guys have anyone who may want to hurt you?" The officer asked.

I shook my head, "No."

Johnny rubbed my back, I sniffled into the used Kleenex in my hand as the officer jotted notes down in his pad.

"Well, I'm terribly sorry for your home. Please take this card for information of resources available and here is my card. Please call me if you have any questions or leads or if you need anything!"

"Thank you." Johnny said.

Behind us stood our home, or what was left of it.

It was burnt almost to the ground, everything was ruined and it was now unlivable. I turned around to look at the house and I started crying again.

"It was small, but it was my home. The first home that I moved into!" I cried.

"I know honey." Johnny comforted.

"What are we going to do?! We have no where to go!"

"Well, I have been just looking at houses for fun this week. I think I found a few we might enjoy."

"Johnny we don't have the money!" I scolded.

"Hey, hey. Don't get mad. It's going to be okay. We have the savings and we'll be getting money from the insurance."

"Is there a cheap house that could still have what we need?"

"There is one that's the cheapest out of the few."

So we called the realtor to show us the house.

It looked nice from the outside with pretty lights on the roof and the fence. It wasn't necessarily big, but it wasn't incredibly small either. We did a walk through of the house with the realtor before she gave us a few minutes to talk about it. Johnny showed me what room he had imagined being the bedroom, their wasn't really a space for a computer but he would buy me a brand new laptop. I didn't need a fancy computer to write my books anyway so a laptop would do. I would prefer that anyway because laptops are mobile so I could take it anywhere if I needed too. The last room he showed me almost made me want to cry which is probably strange. The last room, tucked into the corner of the house, was a laundry room. There would be no more washing clothes in the snow and rain!

"So what do you think?" The realtor asked once we stepped outside.

I looked at Johnny and nodded.

"I think we'll take it!" Johnny said.

"Awesome!"

We filled out paperwork in the kitchen and she handed us the keys.

"Welcome to your new home!" She smiled.

"Thank you so much!"

Our own home!

This week had been a roller coaster of every emotion that you could think of. It sucked that we lost the trailer, but we had been talking about a new home anyway so maybe in a horrible sense this was just moving that plan along. It really was a cute little house and I couldn't wait to add small touches to make it a home. It was like a clean slate!

"What are you most excited about?" Johnny asked.

"Laundry!" I grinned.

He busted out laughing and shook his head.

I was incredibly ready to be able to wash and dry clothes inside. Though I was still happy that in the backyard there was a clothesline to hang up clothes. In the back yard there also was a pool, a grill, and a picnic table. It was a cozy backyard and I couldn't wait for nicer weather to enjoy it!

I was ready to get back at it though.

I had taken some time off of work, as well as Johnny, to take care of everything. Our bosses were extremely understanding and gave us as much time as we needed. Unfortunately it was unpaid, but I had some royalties from my books coming in to make up for that. I didn't have a set place to set up the laptop so I settled for the dining room table. It was a cozy spot and I could glance over the counter to see my beautiful new kitchen. I couldn't believe that I was living here, it was really nice!

"If I work on practicing, will I distract you?" Johnny asked.

"Of course not!" I told him.

"Yes mom, mom I'm fine!"

I was talking to my mother who had just found out about the fires.

"No, they haven't found out who it was. No, mom don't come down here. Johnny is here."

She then went on to gush that she couldn't believe I had a boyfriend. I smiled as I looked at Johnny across the room, he was watching TV.

"I go back to work tomorrow, yes. Yes, yes mom. I've been working on writing books, yes. Mom!"

She was worrying again.

"Mom, I love you for worrying about me but I'm okay! Yes. Okay, I love you mom."

I clicked the phone and put it on the counter.

"I swear she is a handful!" I said.

I walked over and sat next to Johnny on the couch. He swung his arm over me and we cuddled.

"She's your mom, she cares for you." He smiled.

"I know."

He was watching some cooking show on TV that he had been obsessed with.

"Be right back!" I said.

I hopped off the couch and walked to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror deciding to freshen up.

I was feeling very confident, and I was ready to make the next move in the relationship. Maybe tonight would be the night that we stepped things up.

New house HYPE!

"You're not allowed to laugh at me." Johnny said.

"I won't laugh!" I said.

"Promise?"

"Of course!"

"Good, because I worked hard on these but they turned out ugly."

He walked around the counter carrying a plate of cookies shaped like something looking like hearts.

"Aww! Heart cookies?!" I gasped.

"Well, kind of hearts. They didn't turn out right."

I took a bite out of one but didn't have the heart to tell him that they were kind of horrible.

"They're good babe!" I told him.

"You like them?" He asked.

I nodded and smiled.

"Are you sure about this?" I asked later that day.

"It'll be fun!" He said.

He was always getting me to try new things. Today, it was rollerskating.

"Oh god!" I said.

I slowly stepped on to the smooth wooden floor of the rink. It was a nice Spring day at the park and families were out having picnics with their kids. Johnny seemed to be a natural at it though.

"EEEP!"

"Careful!" Johnny said.

"How are you so good at this?!" I gaped.

"I'm not, you just think I'm good at everything." He chuckled.

Two seconds later he was the one almost falling.

I chuckled.

"I told you." He said.

"HELP!"

A sudden scream came from the tree behind us. We stopped skating and looked to see a mother panicking. We quickly removed our skates and ran over to her. On the ground seemed to be her toddler who wasn't moving.

"What happened?!" Johnny asked.

"I don't know, we were eating our grapes. I cut them in small pieces and everything! He just stopped breathing!" She cried.

Johnny looked around unsure of what to do. I could tell that he was panicking a little bit. Before I time to react Johnny picked up the child and started to give him the Heimlich maneuver.

"Oh god! Please!" The mother cried.

At this point there was a crowd standing around us. I covered my mouth and watched as Johnny tried to get the grapes free of his airway. I was about to suggest the hospital when several pieces of tiny grapes flew out of the child's mouth and he started to gasp for air before crying. Johnny carefully handed the boy back to his mother who cried and hugged him tightly.

"Thank you! Thank you so much!"

"Don't mention it! Do you need a ride home?" He asked.

"No, I think we're fine now!"

He smiled before we turned to walk home.

...

"I can't believe you saved him." I said later that night.

"Honestly? I can't believe it either." He told me.

"I was scared, I thought we were going to have to rush him to the hospital."

"Same here."

I leaned my head against his shoulder.

"Can you believe we've been hanging out for almost a year?" He asked.

"Has it really been that long?" I asked.

"Time flies."

"It sure does."

I closed my eyes for one moment.

"Tickle monster!" He shrieked.

I jumped as he started tickling my sides.

"Stop!" I shrieked.

He kept going.

"NOO!"

The tickle fight ended in me having to rush to the bathroom before I ruined our couch.

"That was mean." I told him laughing.

"You enjoyed it."

He was waiting for me outside of the bathroom.

"We should get to bed." I told him.

"Sadly we should."

I smiled as he grabbed my hand and led me to the bedroom.

Thank you for reading =]

"I had such a crappy day at work." I groaned.

"I'm sorry babe, want to talk about it?" Johnny asked.

"No, I just want to be with you."

He smiled.

"I have something that may cheer you up." He said.

I looked at him for a moment.

"I've been wanting to do this for a while, but didn't know the right time to do it."

"Do what?"

He suddenly got down on one knee. I gasped as he pulled out a ring.

"Kaylin, we started out as friends which quickly led to you becoming one of the best friends I have ever had. We get each other, and I have no doubt in my mind that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you please do me the honor of marrying me?"

My eyes teared up as I quickly nodded my head.

He slid the ring on my finger before kissing my cheek gently.

"I have to go call my mom!" I gasped.

...

"So I think I have a story idea." I said, biting the tip of my pencil.

"Yeah? What about?" Johnny asked.

He was cooking us a roast, which was smelling amazing.

"Two teenagers who fall in love, but one of them falls ill and can't see the other one anymore."

He nodded, "Sounds interesting."

I jotted down some notes before pulling my laptop closer to me.

"So how do we want to do this wedding?" He asked.

"We don't have much friends, so we could just do a private one." I told him.

"That would be nice."

It had been a month since he asked me and I was ready to become his wife already. I had a dress picked out and everything. I smiled at him before going back to work on the rough draft of the first chapter of my book.

"We could do it tonight?" He suggested.

The thought made my heart jump.

"Let's do it!"

Before we knew it we were standing in the park where we skated.

"It's a beautiful night." I mentioned.

"It is, but not as beautiful as you." He smiled.

"That is extremely cheesy." I giggled.

He smiled.

A few moments later we started saying our vows. We exchanged rings and I couldn't help but let a few tears slip.

"I love you." I told him.

"I love you too." He said before kissing me.

We were now married.

Things were going fast, at least it felt like it was, but I was ready to start my new life.

Funny story, for some strange reason Kaylin kept refusing his proposal three times! I had no idea what was wrong haha, but finally she accepted. Sims are strange sometimes.

It was one of the last few nice Fall days and Johnny was at work. I stepped out of the taxi cab and tipped the driver before walking up the gravel pathway. I took a turn and walked through the grass before stopping at a headstone. I laid my blanket down before setting my backpack on it and sitting down. I unzipped my backpack and took out a few books laying them carefully in front of me before removing my laptop and opening it. I touched the keys lightly and smiled before looking up to the gravestone.

"Hi Ryan, it's been a while I know."

I looked around the cemetery, there wasn't a single person here. It didn't surprise me though because it was one of the more private ones in town. I took a deep breath and looked at the sky, it look like it might rain but I had an umbrella in case it did.

"Writing is going okay, my publisher seems to really like the book that I just finished. It's a cheesy teen book about two teens falling in love, but one of them gets sick and they can't be together anymore. It seems to be doing well on the shelves."

I turned my laptop so he could see the numbers, I knew that he wasn't here and couldn't see it but the act of "showing" him made me feel better. I touched a few of my finished books before telling him what each of them was about. I really didn't even know what I was doing here, I hadn't planned on coming here anytime soon. Deep down I was feeling a bit guilty about marrying Johnny and moving on.

"I guess I feel guilty. I'm moving on with my life, and as you know Johnny and I got married. You got robbed of so much time, I wanted so much more for you. You're not mad at me for moving on, are you?"

I waited for some kind of sign, but I got nothing. It was silly to think that I would even get one to begin with. My phone buzzed and Johnny sent a text message wondering where I was. I texted him and told him that I was on the way home. I packed up my backpack once again and told Ryan that I'd be back sometime soon knowing that I may not keep my end. I knew that he was with me and that even if I didn't visit his grave that I could still talk to him.

...

I had been having the worst head aches and nausea for about a month now.

"Did you go to the doctors?" Johnny asked.

"Yes, they're running tests." I told him.

"Good, because I don't like that you are in pain."

I smiled and kissed him, he was so sweet.

"I'm going to go practice." He told me.

I nodded as I picked up the laundry basket and walked over to the clothes line. We had a dryer, but I enjoyed hanging the clothes up and only using the dryer if we had too.

I walked inside, Johnny was at the piano writing down some things before playing it. I smiled and opened the fridge getting out the things for dinner.

"What would you like for dinner?" I asked.

"Anything is fine." He answered.

I figured he would say that which is why I started making it before he answered.

"How was your day at work?" I asked.

"Slow, but I picked up some extra shifts!" He told me.

"Awesome!"

We were actually doing pretty awesome with money, we had a lot of it saved from the fire at the old house still. We sat down at the table once dinner was ready and ate together talking more about our days at work. Afterwards I took a small nap because I was starting to feel sick again.

It felt like I was only asleep for a moment when my phone went off. It was the doctors office. I picked up and talked to the nurse on the phone, she told me the results and I had to have her repeat them a few times before I hung up. I walked into the bedroom where Johnny was sitting on the bed.

"Babe?" I asked.

He turned around, "What's up?"

"The doctor's office just called.."

"And?"

"I'm pregnant."

"What?!" He gasped.

"Yeah." I said.

"Wow! Wow, okay. Well, ready or not."

He smiled before getting up and hugging me. I hugged him back feeling a million and one emotions all wrapped into one. I was excited, happy, scared, nervous, all of it. I called mom to tell her and she seemed to be excited. We made plans to have her come up once the baby was born.

"Are you okay in there?" Johnny asked.

I gasped, "Yeah!"

I groaned again as I wiped my mouth and stood up shakily. I brushed my teeth before walking out of the bathroom and laid down on the couch.

"I'll call your boss and let her know you will be working from home today." Johnny said.

"Thank you."

He kissed my forehead.

...

I was showing now, the second trimester was treating me better than the first. Though I think that the cravings were driving Johnny insane when they woke him up in the middle of the night. The recent one was strawberries and pickle juice. It made Johnny gag with how gross it was, but it made me happy. When it wasn't strawberries and pickle juice it was simple chicken tacos.

"Are you doing okay?" Johnny asked.

"Yeah, the tacos are amazing." I smiled.

"Good."

He smiled at me, he was very attentive to me and making sure that I had everything I needed. I knew that he was nervous but he wasn't showing it very often. We took some money from savings for some remodeling. Our home was only one floor and we didn't have anymore rooms to put the nursery so we hired someone to build us a basement with a few extra rooms. It would take a bit for it to be finished, but I was excited to see the outcome. It was either that or move into another house and I didn't want to do that. We just moved in here a little bit ago and it was slowly starting to feel like home. I loved being able to work from home and have that option, now that I was pregnant my boss was giving me the option to work form home more often. I just needed to make sure that I got the work finished before the end of the day.

It gave me and excuse to stay in my pajamas a lot more that's for sure.

I couldn't wait to see what we were having!

Baby on the way! Hope you guys are enjoying!

"Look at how big you are getting!" Johnny said.

"Thanks?" I said.

"Are you still feeling fine?"

"Other then the backaches, yeah I'm okay."

I was getting more excited and more nervous the closer the due date got. I was ready to be a mom, but could I do it? I still wanted to be successful with writing my books. Was I horrible for worrying that my kid may interrupt that? Speaking of writing, the back aches were killer. Every time I was sitting down for more than thirty minutes I would be in so much pain. So I would have to stand up and walk around for a bit before repeating the process.

"How is book writing going?" Johnny asked.

"Slowly." I told him.

He walked over and kissed my forehead.

...

Johnny was at work, and I hated him for it.

"Ow! OW!"

Something was wrong. I was in extreme pain, it started after my shower when I was putting my hair up. I heard the front door open and close and Johnny saying something about getting off early.

"BABE!" I screamed out.

At this point I was on the bathroom floor. He threw the door open and his eyes went wide when he saw me.

"Kaylin! What's wrong?!" He gasped.

"It hurts!"

Thirty minutes later we were at the hospital. We were waiting on tests, but the doctor thinks that I was going into early labor. I wasn't in any more pain right now and just for the safe side I was put on meds to stop the contractions.

"What if something is wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing is wrong." Johnny said squeezing my hand.

I looked around the room, the walls were painted this white paint that seemed boring. There were paintings spread across the room and the typical medical supplies laid on carts. I had my hands on my stomach and kept checking the clock. The door finally opened and the doctor stepped in with the nurse.

"Well, it seems you were trying to go into labor." He said.

"Was that it?" Johnny asked.

"It seems to all check out otherwise."

"So nothing wrong with the baby?" I asked.

Johnny squeezed my hand.

"No, but there is something else." He told us.

"What?" Johnny asked.

"Were you guys aware that you are having twins?"

My mouth fell open.

"T-Twins?" I gasped.

"Yes."

I looked at Johnny, but I couldn't tell what his face was saying.

...

We walked back into the house. The car ride was pretty silent as both of us were in shock by the news. I tried making small talk but it was like Johnny wasn't actually there.

"You can go relax, I'll make you a snack." Johnny said.

"Okay." I said sadly.

I walked over to the couch and turned on the TV.

He came back with a sandwich and chips for me. I smiled as he walked back into the kitchen. Was he not happy? I sent a quick text to my mom telling her the news and that I'd call her later. I ate my sandwich alone and in silence as I watched the TV, but I wasn't really paying attention to it. After the sandwich I turned the TV off and went to grab a book off the bookshelf. It was slowly soaking in that we were having twins. For some reason I was more excited now, it could be a fun challenge to have two babies. I was still worried about the being a mom thing but I could do it, I just wish I knew what Johnny was feeling.

"So, how are you feeling?" I asked.

We were getting ready for bed.

"Tired." He said, pulling back the covers.

"I meant about the news of the twins." I told him.

"I wasn't expecting it, but we will figure it out."

I looked at him.

"Are you happy?"

"Of course."

He gave me a small smile.

...

"Uh, babe!" I called.

I was in the laundry room catching up on some laundry. It had been about a month since the scare at the hospital.

"What?" He called.

"I think it might be time." I told him.

He walked in to see me standing in the middle of a puddle of water that did not come from the washing machine. We quickly called a cab and headed to the hospital to have the babies. I squeezed Johnny's hand as the contractions came. We finally got to the hospital and we walked into the entrance.

"Hi, I'm having a baby." I told the receptionist.

"Okay, fill out this form and the doctor will be with you shortly." She said.

I took the clipboard and we went to the chairs and sat down. I could tell that Johnny was nervous because he was barely talking and he generally only did that when he was nervous. I filled out all the information before we were brought to the room.

"Will it hurt her?" Johnny asked.

The doctor smiled, "No, your wife will be perfectly fine."

He nodded.

Hours passed and we were home with the babies.

"Do you need anything?" Johnny asked.

"No I'm fine." I smiled.

I was extremely tired but I couldn't stop staring at them.

"Johnny?" I asked.

"Yeah?" He said.

"Are you truly happy?"

He looked at me.

"I'm scared, we weren't expecting twins." He said.

"I know, but we can do this." I smiled.

He smiled back and nodded.

"Besides, we have two beautiful daughters now. Isn't that right Stella and Abigail?" I cooed.

The downstairs was now fully done. It had a bathroom, the nursery, a playroom for the girls when they got older, and their own little library and study area. I loved it!

"Stella please." I cooed.

She fussed as she turned her head.

I hummed lightly before rocking her.

"Please take the bottle." I told her.

I sighed defeated.

"You must not be hungry." I said.

I rocked her and looked down at her little cheeks.

"You are so pretty."

"Abigail is changed." Johnny said.

"Thank you!" I said.

I smiled at him.

"I'm going to go work on laundry, are you okay here?" I asked.

"Yeah, uh, I'll be okay." He said.

I walked towards the door, peering back to look at him. He looked so lost and confused on how to handle one of them.

He would get the hand of it, wouldn't he?

Twin girls! Oh my!

"Would you please stop crying?"

I walked in the nursery to  see a distressed Johnny trying to calm down Stella.

"How are things going?" I asked.

"She isn't stopping crying." He told me.

"She needs a diaper change." I told him.

"Of course."

Things were tense at home. He was still struggling with the babies and work for him was getting harder because five people quit so his load got bigger. I was trying to be patient and understanding but at times I felt like I was a single parent. I didn't have any friends to talk to or to help out. He changed Stella's diaper as I walked over to Abby, I picked her nickname out. I cooed at her as I scooped her up in my arms and rocked her. A lot of the times Abby would cry because Stella was crying and there wasn't actually anything wrong with her. I would just have to rock her and she would calm back down.

"You're being a stinker." I told Abby.

She just looked up at me and smiled.

"Now go down for bed time sweet pea." I smiled.

I walked over to Stella who was just kicking her legs in her bassinet. I bent down and picked her up.

"What are you doing bunny?" I asked.

I called her bunny because kicking her legs was one of her favorite things to do.

"I know daddy is struggling, but he's trying." I told her.

I couldn't believe that they were already going to be toddlers soon. I climbed the stairs after putting the girls to bed hoping that they'd stay asleep through the night because I was so extremely tired. Johnny was waiting for me in the bedroom, I smiled at him and kissed him goodnight before we headed to bed.

CRASH!

I gasped and sat up straight.

"Did you hear that?" I asked, shaking Johnny.

"No, go back to bed." He groaned.

I looked around before laying back down, I'm sure it was just the wind.

But five more minutes later there was a loud crash and I could hear the front door crash open.

"Johnny." I gasped.

He was already out of bed.

"Stay here!" He whispered.

"But the girls!" I cried.

"Stay. Here."

He grabbed something to hit whoever might be out of there with. He opened the door slowly and I watched him disappear through the door from the bed.

It had been a few minutes, and I wasn't hearing any noise. Should I go out there?

"Johnny?" I called.

I looked around the room before deciding to get up out of bed. I threw a robe on and opened the door slowly and quietly.

"Johnny!" I cried.

He was laying on the ground passed out.

"Johnny!"

After a few moments of shaking him he finally groaned.

"What happened?" He asked.

"I was going to ask you the same thing." I told him.

He looked around.

"Do you remember anything?" I asked.

"I remember going out of the bedroom, and seeing a guy standing in the living room..."

"What?!" I gasped.

I got up and ran downstairs to see the girls sleeping soundly in their bassinets. They were safe. I went back upstairs to see Johnny now sitting on the couch. I walked over to him and sat down before noticing a bite on his neck.

"Oh my god!" I gasped.

"What?" He asked.

"You have a bite!"

I pointed it out to him, he touched him gently and winced in pain.

We just looked at each other, puzzled.

...

"I'm sick of you constantly being on me Kaylin!" Johnny screamed.

"What?! Constantly being on you for what?!" I screamed back.

"You're claiming I don't help you when I do!"

"Yeah after I have to ask you!"

He huffed.

"I shouldn't have to ask you to help with your own children!" I hissed.

"I'm tired."

"AND I'M NOT?!"

"Here we go, down the same rabbit hole."

"Do NOT start with that. Johnny I know you are trying and I know work is rough right now, but I need help. I need you to show me that you actually are happy!"

"I've told you time and time again that I am happy!" He screamed.

In the background Stella was screaming her head off, but I was dealing with Abby's explosive diaper so she would have to wait.

"Your body language says differently, and you get angry at them for crying!" I told him.

"I'm sorry it's not as easy for me to handle them as it is for you!"

I cleaned up the mess from the diaper explosion and threw it in the trash. I was fuming.

"I've showed you how to do things, I've tried to tell you what each cry usually means, but it's not like you are even trying to grasp anything!"

"I am trying!" He screamed.

"Well then will you please take care of your daughter who has been screaming for five minutes now?!" I screamed back.

I left him to handle Stella, I felt bad for that but I needed out of that room. I hated myself for screaming so loudly in front of the girls, but I just lost it when he provoked me. I walked into their bathroom and closed the door, locking it behind me. I started the bath water and sprinkled some lavender into the water. I climbed into the water and instantly felt better as the hot water relaxed my tense muscles.

The next day happened to be the twins' birthdays! My little girls were now toddlers!

"Happy birthday girls!" I smiled.

I picked out all new outfits for them.

Johnny and I weren't speaking. Both of us probably waiting for the other to apologize. I'm sure it wouldn't last too much longer, but I wasn't ready to apologize because I didn't think that I was wrong.

"Oh you two look beautiful!"

I took a few pictures of them and sent them to mom.

Here was to a new adventure!

Toddlers! Things are about to get hectic! Also Almost 100 views! Thank you so much! I hope that you are enjoying the story.

"Oh god why is this happening?!"

I screamed while sobbing and hitting the floor. I hugged my knees and cried into my hands.

"Not again!"

A Few Days Later

"Abigail! Do not smash your hands into those peas!" I scolded.

She already had her hand mid smash. She looked up at me testing to see if I was serious.

"Abby." I warned.

She made a grunting sound before putting her hand down.

"Thank you. I said.

Once the girls were done with their food I let them out of the high chairs.

"Mama is going to be upstairs for a moment. Play nice!" I told them.

I walked upstairs. Johnny was sitting at the table using my laptop to research some things. The arguing has gotten worse lately, and I kept telling myself that it would get better but I knew it wouldn't. Maybe I was imagining that he was happy about becoming a father, or maybe he was pretending to be because he thought that it was expected of him. I was mad at him for whichever reason it was because I thought he wanted this. I sat at the table across from him after I had gotten some food.

"So how do we handle this?" He asked out of no where.

"Handle what?" I said.

"This?" He motioned.

"What? Be a parent?"

"Kaylin are you kidding me?!"

"No! I'm not! But apparently you were when you told me that you wanted this!" I screamed.

"How many more times are we going to go over this?!" He snapped.

"I understand that we weren't trying to have children, let alone twins, but you could have told me that you didn't want them when we had this conversation!"

"I thought I did!" He screamed.

I looked at him.

"But it's hard! Okay?!"

"You don't think I know that?!" I hissed.

The girls started crying from downstairs. I just got up from the table and walked downstairs.

"Mama!" Abby giggled.

"Hey sweet pea!" I greeted.

"Pay!" She said pointing to the doll house.

She meant play, but her communication skills were still being worked on.

"Is sissy playing?" I asked.

Abby nodded.

I looked at the clock.

"Are you girls hungry for a snack?" I asked.

"Yes!" Abby said.

"No." Stella answered.

I picked Abigail up and carried her into their room. I placed her in a chair before pouring her a bowl of dry cereal.

"Now remember, no messes or stuffing your face!" I told her.

"Righ!" She agreed.

Later that day the girls experienced snow for the first time. It was the cutest thing ever. Neither one of them wanted to go off of the porch for some reason. So they'd scoop up the snow before throwing it over their heads and then they'd giggle once it sprinkled over them. I sat on the porch bench watching them. Johnny was at work so the house was peaceful and there was no fighting.

"Stella you are goofy!" I giggled.

She smashed some snow on the top of her own head.

"Cold!" She shivered.

"Well no wonder silly girl!"

Abigail walked over and bent over to grasp hands full of snow.

"Alright girls, let's go in." I told them.

I got them inside and changed into their nice warm pajamas before setting them on the couch for some dinner.

"Eat that, and mama will be right back."

I wasn't really sure if they could understand me, but I wanted to be vocal with them. That and they were the only people I had to talk too now a days, kind of a sad thing to admit. I went and put their winter clothes into the washer while they ate dinner. Next up was bath and then bed time, I was getting used to their routine.

"Goodnight guys." I said.

I shut the door to the girls room and walked upstairs. I won't go into detail because I couldn't remember really what was said that fight, but Johnny and I got into it big time.

Present Day

"I don't think I can do this anymore." Johnny said.

I stopped what I was doing.

"Do what?" I asked.

"This, us, the girls, all of it." He motioned.

I looked at him, not sure that I heard him right or not.

"What are you trying to say?" I asked, my voice shaking.

"I'm saying, that I'm moving out."

This couldn't be happening.

"Johnny don't be ridiculous." I huffed.

"I mean it. I'm moving out tonight, I have my bags packed."

I was raging now.

"You had this planned?!" I hissed.

"Kaylin don't lie and say you didn't see this being the end result. It's been months and we've barely talked and when we have it ended in a fight. There is no fixing this, I thought I'd be happy and I really tried but I'm not."

I felt the tears slip down my cheeks.

It was happening again.

"Fine." I managed to get out.

He walked past me and into the bedroom before coming back out with his bags in tow. He stopped at the front door, leaving his key to the house on the table. He turned around to face me, his face was distant.

"I'll, um, I'll get in touch with the lawyer. Get the divorce going, and I'll have him draw up custody papers saying you get full custody of them." He said.

I just looked at him before he opened the front door. I watched him close it without looking back for one second. I could feel my heart racing and not in the good way as my lungs struggled to breathe on their own. I gasped as I turned around and went into the now very empty bedroom.

"Oh god why is this happening?!"

I screamed while sobbing and hitting the floor. I hugged my knees and cried into my hands.

"Not again!"

I cried into my hands some more, letting the loud sobs rip through me. Stella and Abigail were going to know how I felt when my dad left me. How it felt to be unwanted and unloved by one of the parents. Was this how mom felt? Would I be able to do the same? I would have to be both parents even though I had been doing that anyway. I couldn't afford this house by myself, there was no way. My brain was just going in circles with everything that had just happened. I would have to move, again. I would have to readjust, again. Not only that, the girls were effected by this and it was my fault, again.

How was I going to survive this?

Bum bum bummmm

"Yes, I'm calling about your listing at 1245 Baker Avenue. Yes, yes I'll hold."

I sniffled and wiped away some escaping tears as I waited to talk to this Shawn Huston, the owner of this rental trailer I found.

"This is Shawn Huston?" He answered.

"Hi, I'm calling about your listing at 1245 Baker Avenue. Is that still available?" I asked.

I was trying to make it seem like I hadn't been crying all morning.

"Let me look here..." He said.

I waited as I heard papers shuffling.

"Yes, it looks like that is still available."

We spent twenty minutes discussing budget. I told him that I needed a place right away so I was hoping that would help.

"May I ask why you need a place right away? Are you in danger?" He asked, his voice becoming soft and caring.

"No, not really. Um, I just got divorced and I need a place for my girls and I." I told him, not even sure why I told him all that.

"I see, how many children?"

"Two, twin girls."

"Oh my, well sadly this is only a one bedroom trailer."

"That will be fine, I will figure it out."

"Okay, meet me there at 3 PM and we will sign some papers."

"Thank you so much!"

By 4 PM that evening we were moved in. Shawn had a bunch of his friends help move the heavy things and I was so thankful for that. I never had a realtor go so far to help me like this. I made sure the girls were safe before stepping outside. Shawn and his men were packing the truck up to leave for the night.

"I just wanted to say thank you one last time." I told him.

"Don't mention it, one of the things I strive for is helping those in need." He smiled.

"Well you did help out a lot!"

"Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!"

I smiled and nodded as I waved goodbye and headed into our new home.

(Ignore the mailbox in the middle of the entryway, I honestly have no idea how it got there.)

"New bed!" Stella cheered.

"Yes! New bed and new house." I smiled.

"House!" She said.

"It's only temporary until mama can get us in somewhere better! A BIG house!"

"BIG!" Abby screamed.

I giggled.

I left them to their toys, sadly I couldn't bring much from the house with me seeing as the size of the trailer. So they got a toy chest and their beds which were placed where the living room would be. I hated that they couldn't have their own room. I walked into my small room, I managed to buy a cheap computer and by cheap, I meant cheap. I sat down at it before opening my email and sending my boss an email stating that I would be returning to work now that I was settled in. I took some vacation days off that I had saved for an emergency and this counted as one. After that I decided to get a jump start on a rough draft to my next book.

A new chapter of my life meant new things. Like hiring a babysitter for the first time ever.

"Okay girls, this is Charles. He's going to watch you for a bit while mama goes to work!" I told them.

I gave him a list of foods that they would eat and my cellphone number before leaving. It broke my heart as I closed the door to Stella looking at Charles confused and scared and Abigail crying out for me. But I had to work so that I could make money and pay rent all while saving for a better house.

My first day at work was awesome! Everyone seemed to miss me and offered help whenever I needed it. It was nice to know that getting a divorce didn't slap a big ol' doomed sign on your forehead. I was scared that people would treat me differently like I was damaged goods, but it was the complete opposite. I even had something exciting happen! My publisher contacted my boss and they wanted to make one of my mystery books into a movie! A movie! How exciting was that?! After signing a bunch of paperwork and going through the legal rights and such it was officially in the works. I got a bonus from my boss and the director as well so that would help tremendously.

"I'm home!"

I couldn't wait to see my girls.

"How were they?" I asked Charles.

"Absolutely delightful!" He smiled.

"I'm glad, here's a small tip. I wish I could do more." I said offering him his payment.

"Thank you ma'am."

I closed the door behind him and turned around to Stella giving me the cheesiest smile.

"What is that for?" I giggled.

"Miss you!" She said.

"I missed you too!" I said.

I bent down and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Where is your sister?" I asked.

"Backyawd!"

I walked outside.

"Abigail, where are you?" I called.

I walked around to the back to see her dumping things onto the ground.

"ABBY! No!" I scolded.

She looked up at me and tilted her head confused.

"Bad girl!" I said.

"Mess!" She said.

"I know, and we don't make messes!"

Thankfully it was outside though.

I put her back in the house with Stella.

"Stay inside! Mama will be right back!" I told them.

I watched as both of them sat on the floor and babbled together. I wondered if they could actually understand what they were saying as if it was their secret twin language only they could understand. One of the things I was dreading going back too was washing clothes. That's right, back to using the good ol' washing tub. I sighed and got on my knees and started scrubbing the dirty clothes. There was a lot more clothes to wash now that I had the girls. At least now I had this pretty blue bird feeder to watch the birds while I washed clothes.

"Okay girls, it's early but it's bed time!" I told them.

"Nooooo." Stella said shaking her head.

"Come on." I said.

"NO!" Stella shouted.

"Stella please, mama has some work to get done."

She huffed and waddled to bed, Abigail followed and crawled into her own bed.

"I'll read you a story to make up for it." I told them.

I was trying my best to stay strong for them. I just hoped that I was doing enough for them, you know? I don't know why but it made me a bit sad that they didn't even ask about daddy at all. I guess that should be a sign that things weren't as they seemed to be. All we could do was take it one day at a time and be thankful for people like Shawn who helped out a lot when he didn't have too. I was lucky to have called that number when I did.

Over 200 views! Thank you guys!

"How are the girls doing?" Amanda, a coworker, asked.

"They're doing well I hope, their birthday is coming up." I told her.

We were at our desks which were right across from each other. We talked often so she knew the whole situation.

"I cannot believe they're going to be children." She said, shaking her head.

"Right?!"

I sighed thinking about how fast it seemed to go.

"So, are you going to talk more to this Shawn guy?" She hinted.

"No, he just helped me with the house." I told her.

"Come on! You said he was cute!" She pushed.

"Amanda, I have no time! When I'm not here, I'm at home with the girls, and when I'm not with the girls I'm writing and then sleeping."

"I think you're afraid."

"Of course I am, can you blame me?"

I didn't let myself think about dating anyone else. I was happy with the girls, and I wasn't about to risk their happiness for anything.

"I don't know, I still think you should give it a try."

...

Later that night I sat on Abby's bed and caught up on some reading. I was working hard for the next promotion in order to make more money an hour. The girls were already down for the night so now was my chance to catch up on reading.

I woke up to the phone ringing. I groaned and uncovered myself, the girls were already awake but they seemed to be keeping themselves busy. I walked over to my cell phone ringing and answered it before looking at who was calling.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey Kaylin, did I wake you up?"

"Who is this?" I said still groggy.

"Shawn."

"Oh! Oh, sorry! No, you're fine. How can I help you Shawn?" I asked.

"I was just checking in on how things are going." He told me.

"They're okay, I'll mail in rent tomorrow." I told him.

"No rush, you've been on time with them and I appreciate that."

I smiled.

"Well, I will let you go. I just wanted to, uh, call and see how things are."

"Thank you."

We talked for a minute more before hanging up. I walked out of the room to see Abigail playing with her tablet.

"Good morning girls." I said.

I got started on making them breakfast. They were now at my feet in the kitchen playing with each other and babbling.

"Charles is going to be here today to watch you." I told them.

They just looked up at me.

"It'll be a longer day, so mama might be late."

"Work!" Stella said.

"Yep, I would rather be home though."

I looked over to see the girls hugging, they were so cute.

I hated leaving for work because there was a thunder storm going on.

"Don't go!" Abigail cried.

"I have too!" I told her.

"Pwease!" She sobbed.

Charles picked her up and I waved to her and left.

"How about we read a book?" He asked.

I looked through the window before leaving.

"MAMA!"

Stella ran up to me and I grabbed her and picked her up.

"Did you have a good day?" I asked.

"Yeah!"

I smiled and squeezed her tightly.

...

It was the girls' birthday.

"Be careful Stella!" I called.

The girls were taking advantage of the nice weather and playing outside. Abigail started chasing Stella with fists full of grass and then trying to throw it at her when she was close enough. I watched as they both giggled and played around. I smiled as I sat on the porch and just looked around.

"GO!" Stella said.

She took off running but tripped and almost landed face first.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Good!" She said.

She stood up and brushed herself off.

"I'm going to go make your guys' cake!" I told them.

"Cake!"

That was enough to drag them inside.

Before I knew it, they grew up to be children!

Stella is on the left and Abigail is on the right.

New chapter here we come!

Happy Birthday Stella and Abigail!
