"Look at how big you are getting!" Johnny said.
"Thanks?" I said.
"Are you still feeling fine?"
"Other then the backaches, yeah I'm okay."
I was getting more excited and more nervous the closer the due date got. I was ready to be a mom, but could I do it? I still wanted to be successful with writing my books. Was I horrible for worrying that my kid may interrupt that? Speaking of writing, the back aches were killer. Every time I was sitting down for more than thirty minutes I would be in so much pain. So I would have to stand up and walk around for a bit before repeating the process.
"How is book writing going?" Johnny asked.
"Slowly." I told him.
He walked over and kissed my forehead.
...
Johnny was at work, and I hated him for it.
"Ow! OW!"
Something was wrong. I was in extreme pain, it started after my shower when I was putting my hair up. I heard the front door open and close and Johnny saying something about getting off early.
"BABE!" I screamed out.
At this point I was on the bathroom floor. He threw the door open and his eyes went wide when he saw me.
"Kaylin! What's wrong?!" He gasped.
"It hurts!"
Thirty minutes later we were at the hospital. We were waiting on tests, but the doctor thinks that I was going into early labor. I wasn't in any more pain right now and just for the safe side I was put on meds to stop the contractions.
"What if something is wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing is wrong." Johnny said squeezing my hand.
I looked around the room, the walls were painted this white paint that seemed boring. There were paintings spread across the room and the typical medical supplies laid on carts. I had my hands on my stomach and kept checking the clock. The door finally opened and the doctor stepped in with the nurse.
"Well, it seems you were trying to go into labor." He said.
"Was that it?" Johnny asked.
"It seems to all check out otherwise."
"So nothing wrong with the baby?" I asked.
Johnny squeezed my hand.
"No, but there is something else." He told us.
"What?" Johnny asked.
"Were you guys aware that you are having twins?"
My mouth fell open.
"T-Twins?" I gasped.
"Yes."
I looked at Johnny, but I couldn't tell what his face was saying.
...
We walked back into the house. The car ride was pretty silent as both of us were in shock by the news. I tried making small talk but it was like Johnny wasn't actually there.
"You can go relax, I'll make you a snack." Johnny said.
"Okay." I said sadly.
I walked over to the couch and turned on the TV.
He came back with a sandwich and chips for me. I smiled as he walked back into the kitchen. Was he not happy? I sent a quick text to my mom telling her the news and that I'd call her later. I ate my sandwich alone and in silence as I watched the TV, but I wasn't really paying attention to it. After the sandwich I turned the TV off and went to grab a book off the bookshelf. It was slowly soaking in that we were having twins. For some reason I was more excited now, it could be a fun challenge to have two babies. I was still worried about the being a mom thing but I could do it, I just wish I knew what Johnny was feeling.
"So, how are you feeling?" I asked.
We were getting ready for bed.
"Tired." He said, pulling back the covers.
"I meant about the news of the twins." I told him.
"I wasn't expecting it, but we will figure it out."
I looked at him.
"Are you happy?"
"Of course."
He gave me a small smile.
...
"Uh, babe!" I called.
I was in the laundry room catching up on some laundry. It had been about a month since the scare at the hospital.
"What?" He called.
"I think it might be time." I told him.
He walked in to see me standing in the middle of a puddle of water that did not come from the washing machine. We quickly called a cab and headed to the hospital to have the babies. I squeezed Johnny's hand as the contractions came. We finally got to the hospital and we walked into the entrance.
"Hi, I'm having a baby." I told the receptionist.
"Okay, fill out this form and the doctor will be with you shortly." She said.
I took the clipboard and we went to the chairs and sat down. I could tell that Johnny was nervous because he was barely talking and he generally only did that when he was nervous. I filled out all the information before we were brought to the room.
"Will it hurt her?" Johnny asked.
The doctor smiled, "No, your wife will be perfectly fine."
He nodded.
Hours passed and we were home with the babies.
"Do you need anything?" Johnny asked.
"No I'm fine." I smiled.
I was extremely tired but I couldn't stop staring at them.
"Johnny?" I asked.
"Yeah?" He said.
"Are you truly happy?"
He looked at me.
"I'm scared, we weren't expecting twins." He said.
"I know, but we can do this." I smiled.
He smiled back and nodded.
"Besides, we have two beautiful daughters now. Isn't that right Stella and Abigail?" I cooed.
The downstairs was now fully done. It had a bathroom, the nursery, a playroom for the girls when they got older, and their own little library and study area. I loved it!
"Stella please." I cooed.
She fussed as she turned her head.
I hummed lightly before rocking her.
"Please take the bottle." I told her.
I sighed defeated.
"You must not be hungry." I said.
I rocked her and looked down at her little cheeks.
"You are so pretty."
"Abigail is changed." Johnny said.
"Thank you!" I said.
I smiled at him.
"I'm going to go work on laundry, are you okay here?" I asked.
"Yeah, uh, I'll be okay." He said.
I walked towards the door, peering back to look at him. He looked so lost and confused on how to handle one of them.
He would get the hand of it, wouldn't he?
Twin girls! Oh my!
