Inspiration
« Reply #1 on: March 11, 2018, 06:48:57 PM »
12/3/18
The inspiration really came from @dethdukk - thanks, I think! Dethdukk came up with the idea of playing with just the base game and going back to how it was in the beginning. We were reminiscing about how the game play mechanics worked before we got all the DLC that brought in longer buffs and quicker methods of getting those buffs and then somehow the idea became us doing another ID.

I don't know just how long I will play with just the Base Game installed but any changes I make I will document in this post.

First impressions: well I really miss the CAS content. Going from all the expansion packs, game packs and stuff packs to none of the packs, is quite the shock. I caved and threw in some CC clothing and then had to spend a few hours trying to hunt down the broken pieces as I'm so used to just throwing anything in I forgot that some CC is heavily reliant on certain DLC. *face palm* In the end I ditched the save, deleted all the CC and started again. I couldn't cope with townies that were just floating heads.

The items I miss the most are the coffee machine from Get Together +1 24 happy buff, the Spa day baths and incense buffs and well... most of the Build catalogue items that came with Cats and Dogs.

You know how it goes.

People to meet.

Skills to learn.

Advice to take.

Lady: …and always listen to your watcher, she’s wise and all knowing.
Watcher: *Smug grin*
Jax: Yes maam

Partays to throw.

Dennis: If you keep eating at this rate my boy, you’ll soon be the size of a house.
Jax: Oh this is for later.

Glitches to curse at.

Watcher: omg GAME please, just accept that there are at least three sims dancing at the same time for carl’s sake.
(Despite having 3, 4 and 5 sims all dancing at the same time the party requirement refused to check...a rage quit was considered.)

Places to Visit.

Watcher: You know trainer dude, I’m not sure you’re advice is solid.
Jax: Don’t be so darn rude. Ignore her, I need all the help I can get.

More people to hunt out for helpers meet.

Malcolm: Go away watcher.
Bob: I wonder if I should have another pancake.
Malcolm: They’re burgers Bob, burrrgaaahs. Fps

Zoe: Hi watcher, your boy seems a bit distracted there.
Watcher: Yeah… put food in front of him and you could run him over with a train and he wouldn’t notice.

Muscles to gain.

Things to fish.

People to woo.

Girl: I could give you my phone number…if you like, you know, just in case.
Jax: YES, err..sure. That would be great.

Insane people to ask to join the house seeing as my game refuses to spawn a gardener.

Jax: Whaa? You want me to ask insane people to move in?
Watcher: Trust me, I know what I’m doing.

Lady: You better not be up to any shenanigans young man.
Jax: Oh no, heh, not at all.

Jax: My watcher just thought you’d like to move in so you don’t have to sleep on benches anymore.

Places to explore:

Vivian: That’s it, just keep watering and I think you’ll discover something rather wonderful.

Jax: This place sucks.

Watcher: What is it?
Jax: Candle.
Watcher: You’re right, this place does suck.

People to invite over

Watcher: Wait! What? No, we’re not ready, I haven’t built anything. She’ll run a mile!

Jax: What are you doing?
Watcher: Lining you up so the lighthouses ray looks like it’s shining right through your empty skull...in one ear and right out the other…

Girl: Brother? Oh no, lol that’s my son.
Jax: Sson? Oh!
Watcher: You’re an idiot. I knew it. smh

Another Play story!  Woo!  Oh my 0.o Only base game... I don't think I could do it XD If only for the build mode items alone lol and the clothing.  I mean, I did the Challenge using only base game, but it was so hard!  Jax is a cutie, as always lol

What a bold move to go "Basegame only."
Yesterday, I was just thinking that I haven't been using much cc lately because Maxis has been releasing some nice hair and clothes lately.

Jax is gorgeous, which isn't at all surprising, considering his watcher!
I'm so excited you're writing a new story, Play! Yay!!!!

P.S. None of the "Do x at the same time 0/3" party goals register for me lately. *devil horns

Oh! A surprise single mom! That always makes things interesting.

I'm very excited you're writing another story, and the basegame-only twist is a great one. I'm really interested to see how it goes! I want to say I read a Sims 3 dynasty awhile back that started with base game and then added a pack every generation, so that might be a fun option if you find down the road that you can't live without spa day (I know I couldn't!). It would be interesting to see which packs are the most vital.

Your founder is gorgeous (naturally!), and I'm really enjoying his adventures so far!

Going base game only sounds sorta like playing in hard mode 😂 You're doing great so far good luck!

Thank you everyone, it's always so lovely to wake up to all your comments. I don't have as much time to play as I did when I completed my first dynasty story but I'll try to have regular updates. I guess I also won't be crafting as much of a story around the dynasty as the Hollingworths but rather an attempt to summarize the important bits.

@Shewolf13  I'm really missing the build/buy content so much! I caved as I was building the house and added some more cc in as I just really couldn't cope with the BG kitchens.
@LenaLJ  well had to make it harder some how and this seemed like the perfect way, get some notes on BG only content and increase the difficulty.  :)
@MarianT  let's just hope I actually finish the story on this one!  ::)
@oshizu  well so far it's ok, obviously the hardest part is getting those situational emotions correct. It's far more time consuming getting sims into the 'correct' emotion and then the buff wears off so quickly.
@FrancescaFiori  I have considered that and it's a good way to introduce packs back in but then again I am also enjoying the difficulty level. I dare say a few gens in when the grind hits I'll really have to think about stay BG Only or not! If I do add some packs in it's going to be quite a tough decision as to which ones. I really do miss the dance skill, the sims look a bit 'weird' with only BG dancing.  ;D
@wa-wa-world  thanks! I guess it is like hard mode but I think short life span would truly be considered hard mode. I did very briefly consider that option but dismissed it really because I didn't want the nail biting stress of watching my sims career promotions inch towards filling that green bar each work day. Least this way there is no real hurry and plenty of time for everything to get done with some time left over for just general play like visiting neighbors and fishing etc.

« Reply #11 on: March 13, 2018, 06:25:47 PM »
Well the house was built in a jiffy - 'jiffy' meaning 3 restarts on building (hitting the back arrow while still in build mode) and a lot of scanning house pics on google for inspiration and then a day sulking around because everything I wanted to build looked nasty with just BG.  ::)

Kourtney: Come on Dale, you've got homework to do, less chit chat.
Jax: I'll give you a hand if you like.

Marion got to planting some important plants.

Homework was done, friendships were made.

Watcher: Well, enjoy doing that 'cos it's the last time you'll ever be doing homework again.

Then it was time for mother and son to bond over their hearts desires.

Dale: How did you know that I've always wanted to live my life chained to a PC writing books non-stop?
Kourtney: Silly question son, the same way the watcher knew I wanted to spend all my time painting.

Work requirements were met.

Jax: Seems weird that being a mixologist requires me to max my cooking skills too don't you think?
Watcher: *cough* Oh no, that seems logical to me...
Jax: Hmm, maybe I should take a look at those work requirements myself.
watcher: No need, I've got you covered. *blush*

Kisses happened.

New beds were admired.

Jax: That's not what we're doing! Go away!
Watcher: I know that dummy, I was keeping it PG. Sheesh.

Confetti happened.

Kourtney: Yas!
Watcher: Congrats.

Good News was shared.

Jax: Really? Wow!
Watcher: *rolls eyes*

Watcher: Ahh, there you are Marion, it's so lovely and peaceful out here.
Marion: It's lovely actually. I love being alone.
Watcher: Wow, that's some straight talking there.

More skilling.

Watcher: That looks disgusting. What is it?
Jax: Beats me, it was the hardest recipe I knew so I just went with it.

And Jax took off, with a spring in his step for his first day at work.

Jax: You're so corny.
Watcher: You're so dead of you don't bring home a promotion. *laughs*
Jax: And you've got a really sick sense of humor too.

Pregnancy suited Kourtney.

Kourtney: Thanks watcher.

And the two lovebirds couldn't keep their hands off each other. It was sickening.

So I sent them on a date to the museum so Kourtney could stare at view some paintings.

Watcher: Got your three drinks made yet?
Jax: Yep.

Too mushy and "romantic" to say much more *fake retching sounds* but a gold medal was awarded for their behavior.

Daily life rolled on with everyone surprisingly happy. Occasionally Jax secretly thought that Kourtney talked a little too much.

So he'd change the subject subtly.

Eventually it was time.

Jax: .... whatdoidowatcherwhatdoido?
Watcher: err, I think the correct question would be 'what did I do'.

Aww, welcome gen 2, Brendon McConnell

Dale finally managed to start publishing his books.

Watcher: Grats Dale.
Dale: Thanks.

Then promptly sacrificed himself at the Alter of Cow to celebrate.

Which in turn greatly aided Jax's next promotion.

Watcher: So you're officially a mixologist now?
Jax: Oooo *having brain wave* (Apparently.)

Some things broke so Dale called a repair person.

Jax: So you have maxed the handiness skill?
Maia: Well yes, that's my profession you see.
Jax: Hmmm....

And some habits are just too hard to break. *sigh*

I was so confused by that shot of Marion fishing and thought, "Did Jax move to WIndenburg? Didn't he move to Oakenstead?"
Then, I realized it's the house you built, Play. It looks amazing! (of course)

I like Dale's new hairstyle! He looks edgier now, lol.
Good luck on this challenging challenge. You know I'll be reading. :)
