2C: Being a Mother
Last time, we welcomed our generation 3 heir, Kai Montero to the world.
"It's hard to believe that such a little thing can make you feel so much." Jewel looked down into her son's little face.
He's beautiful, Jewel. She's quite taken with her little boy.

She's not the only one. His father, grandmother, and aunt all dote on him. He doesn't cry for more than a few moments before someone arrives to take care of him. Though, for some reason, they are relucant to change his diaper. They always try something else first.

Still, no one has quite the same effect as mama does.
"There's my little man. That's a good boy."

There is some terrible news. After she got off the phone with her mother, Jewel rushed back to San Myshuno. "Oh mom!" The two hugged tightly.

The worst had happened. Diego had passed away. He had come home from work that evening, complaining of being tired. Without warning, he collapsed. There was nothing that could be done.

Jewel took her father's urn along with her mother and placed it in the graveyard of their family's musuem. The epitath was a fitting one for such a noble man: "No man can compare. As a father, a spouse, there is no equal".

Life must go on, as hard as it is. Kai was getting bigger, so Brock and Jewel decided to buy him something to play on.

Kai is certainly a cute little thing as a toddler! Jewel can't believe how big her little boy has gotten already!

"Come to mama, baby! You can do it!"

Oh dear, look at that grin! If that doesn't spell trouble, I don't know what does!

Kai wasn't the only household member to age up. His grandmother Hollie became an elder as well. Sadly, the watcher didn't get to make her a cake. (Bad Watcher, bad!) She decided she liked her normal hair color, so a bit of dye did the job well enough.

Kai is an angelic toddler. He is a good little eater, eating just about anything you put in front of him.

However, he certainly takes after his mother in many respects...
"Look at this mess! Kai, what have you done?"

Of course, that angelic grin of his normally gets him out of too much trouble. That and the way his voice quivers just a hint. "M-mama? Me wuv you!"
In the bath, he loves to splash and play around. Jewel doesn't have the heart to scold him for it. In fact, it takes all she can do not to start giggling.

Jewel loves to read him to sleep as much as she can. "The great spaceship turned on it's mighty engines and with a ground-quaking whoosh, it rose up into the sky!"

She did take a bit of time to herself. Each morning, she enjoyed a nice long jog, normally before the rest of the household went to work.

Of course, she had to be careful about taking too long. She returned a few mornings to this, when his dad's back was turned. "Kai! Brock! Look what your son's done again!"

He is certainly his mother's child! Angelic he may be, but messes seem to be his passion!

"What am I going to do with him?" Jewel despaired. Kai was finally down for a nap. She was exhausted. Keeping him out of trouble (and out of messes) was a full time job!
Hollie chuckled. "Your mama told me you were just the same!"
Jewel grimaced. "Are you telling me this is payback?"
"Of course! Grandchildren are a parents' favorite revenge!"

Jewel laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, that's what they are huh? So... I get to enjoy watching Kai run around after his own little monsters in another 20 year?"
Hollie nodded sagely, her eyes twinkling.
Jewel's grin faded and she stood up. "Thank you, Hollie. For everything. Truly. You guys have been an immense help. I-I don't know how you raised two kids on your own as you did." She hugged the older woman tightly. Her own mother had passed away a bit after her father. Sadly, until someone moved into the apartment, she would be unable to retrieve her mother's grave to add to the family cemetary.

"C'mon, son. Time for bed."
"B-but papa!"
"Now, none of that. Quicker you go to sleep, quicker you can get up!"

Isn't he such a cute little thing! I couldn't get over his facial expressions while I was playing him!

Author's Note: Ok, so, as much as I love this family, they drove me crazy during his toddler stage! They were all trying to be helpful, but so often, they would pick him up and put him in the highchair. Poor Jewel was exhausted more often than not because the whole family would interfere as she was trying to care for him XD At this point, they still don't have their first free day!
