What about Wishing Well, Ambrosia or Book of Life for keeping spares alive and/or younger?  Same for founder and heirs.

Wishing well is okay for anyone but the founder and heirs -- although you take a risk when you use it. I don't think Book of Life affects the sim's age. You can either resurrect someone with it or use it to fill a sim's needs. And there's no rule against ambrosia for spares.

Actually, unless you move in an elder, your spares are probably going to be fine. Once you move the heir out, the rest of the household won't get any older.

The only age-lengthening item you're allowed to use for the founder and heirs is 1 Potion of Youth.

Oh I am so excited about this because I have a sim I want to keep alive. Didn't even think about the wishing well. However, I know there is a risk but as he is near death anyway if he doesn't make it then more for my storyline. I didn't realize teens couldn't move on their own into another house and had to move one of my founder's spouses so that the sister could move also. I knew this meant the father would eventually pass away but as the time comes near it has been making me sad.

I have written 7 more pages just need to get the pics ready and will be posting a lot more tomorrow. Didn't realize how much work this would be. However, very nice looking back and remembering how far my story has come.

Is it normal to be afraid that people won't read it or like it? Lol

I've been reading the rules of this challenge a few times now, darn it's mind boggeling! however it sounds like a very fun challenge beside the immortal dynasty one. Since it's my third time doing the immortal dynasty it has become fairly easy, so I'm in for a new extra hard challenge Gonna set up my game file and see how it goes.

With the new changes in gender customization, we've added the following rule:

If you want to customize the gender of any of your sims, you may do that once, as teen or YA. Gender changes are irreversible, however. And keep in mind that your heirs need to be able to reproduce.

You can always use whatever hair and clothing you want.

The new restaurants look like they could be a viable business.  Could our Retail Sims be a restauranteur?  Don't know if "perks" could be acquired this way.  Might be fun though to take the founder, when all else is done, or a spare and do an added story with the restaurant thingie.  Any rules/restrictions re this new pack?

@Joria, I just started playing around with it myself, and I don't know if the others on the team have had time to look at it. We'll be considering whether to have it as part of the retail option or a separate option, and what the requirements will be, but it's too soon to have any rules.

Thank you, Marian.  Unless owning a restaurant also gives the required perks I would think it would have to be a different blood line or requirement some how.  Sure looks like fun.  Just think of all the different kinds of restaurants!  I saw Japanese, Italian and more so you could go ethnic or whatever.

Alternatively, if you have the Dine Out game pack, your sims in the Retail option may choose to run a restaurant. To complete this option:

1. Your restaurant must be able to sell for $100,000 or more.
2. It must have a 5-star rating for at least 3 days (need not be consecutive).

Marian there's a lot of problems with owning or going to a restaurant.  Have you seen this from crinricht?

Restaurant/Retail store corruption

Problem

    My Sim owns a retail store/restaurant but when I go there it says I don't own anything. On the map it still shows as owned.
    Some employees don't show up at my restaurant
    I have a random employee showing up at my restaurant that I never hired. They are just standing around.
    I can't close my restaurant. It just goes Bling.

Cause

Unclear.

For retail make sure to close your store manually before you leave the lot.

It's possible that incompatible mods can cause these issues. Simply removing doesn't fix the issues.
Solution

The solution is a bit unsatisfactory as you'll loose your employees and the money in your store/restaurant.

    Go to the map and click on your restaurant/retail store.
    Choose Sell retail store/restaurant.
    The money for the lot is being transfered in your household funds
    Rebuy the lot (cheat money if necessary)
    Bought perks and earned perk points should be still available

Personally I'd hold on doing an actual restaurant for the RDC.

Thanks for the heads-up @Joria. I didn't have any problems with my test restaurant, but that was in a new file. I'll have to see what happens with my store the next time I play that family. If mods are the cause, they're not allowed in the challenge, so people should be okay.

I did ran into 2 of the problems above on my test restaurant runs.  For the first problem I just fire them then re-hire someone else.  For the second problem, I use resetSim "name" and that random employee end up leaving my restaurant after that.

I get updates from crin in my email which is a huge help and blessing to me.  All of them lately have been about multiple problems with the restaurant stuff in one way or another.  Fortunately, EA is not only aware of the problems but working hard on fixing them.  For me, no restaurants until it's fixed.

Apparently the patch for Dine Out introduced a problem for rotational players -- if you rotate away from a family with an infant, there's a possibility that the parents' relationship with the baby will decrease to 0, causing the social worker to come and take the baby the next time you play the family. I'm hopeful this will be fixed in the next patch, but in the mean time, players have permission to check on families with infants once a week rather than waiting two weeks before they return. If the relationship has decayed to acquaintance, you may also spend some time building it back up again.
