Lag and freezing

I've been having a problem with lagging or freezing. After I start a town, make my Sims, and build my house I will go to play the actual family and every few moment the game lags or freezes and a few moments later its back and then its stopped again. This is an all the time thing now and I'm getting frustrated. Should I uninstall my games and start all over or is there something I can do to get it to stop lagging every few seconds during gameplay.
