Marketable Trait
« on: May 23, 2015, 02:55:41 PM »
Can anyone explain exactly what this reward does and what skills it effects. I seem to be getting quite random results from a variety of skills and I can't pin down what it is doing just from game play.

Marketable increases the value of your product by multiplying it randomly, probably up to three times it's original worth.  I know it effects paintings, woodworking sculptures, and baked goods and cupcakes from the cupcake factory.  It probably also affects any other things your Sim cooks.  Not sure if it affects the prices of drinks made with mixology.

@ClayMask  K, thanks for the answer. Do you know if it randomly effects EVERY item a sim makes or does it randomly effect random items?

Every item of the types mentioned.

@ClayMask  I guess that question wasn't very clear. If my sim makes 10 items using the woodworking bench, will all those ten items have a random price due to the marketable trait or is it just randomly allocated i.e maybe 6 out of the ten items would be effected by the marketable trait?

Marketable affects all the things your sim creates. The randomness part is only in multiplier value (it will always result in higher prices but we don't know whether it will be 1% or 300% or something in between). You will always get an increase with marketable

Looks like marketable doesn't affect mixology drinks.

Except for drinks, it doesn't work for mixology.
I don't think books have been mentioned. It definitely works for writing.

@Tixxis It didn't work when my Sim made drinks with mixology.  Do you mean it only works with specific kinds of drinks?

No, ClayMask. The marketable trait does not effect the price of the drinks at all. If you were interested in mixology only, you would never ever buy the marketable trait.

I wish there was a way of making the results of the marketable trait less random...like using moods too consistently get the higher values. Obviously I've tried everything I can think of but the results stay random. The only thing I have found that is helpful is that the longer a sim stays making (say for example) woodworking items without a break the more likely it 'seems' to be that the higher value will be allocated. Could just be my wishful thinking too.

So made a test file in which my sim stayed very focused and made woodworking items non-stop for over 6 sims days (used cheats so he could just keep crafting without a break apart from topping up his mood). By the end of day 6 most items where 4K in value with only a few at 3k.
Made another test file where I didn't use cheats so the crafting sim had to take breaks to drink a moodlet solver and to top up his mood. His items by the end of the 6th day where still quite random, some 4k some 3k some 2k and a few 1k.

So, it still could just be the randomizer doing it's job... or maybe continuous time spent = higher value.

I still think the RNG kicked in again. I don't know how exactly this game generate RNG but my speculation is every different action you do with a sim, a new RNG kick in. This is probably why when I hack and fail, and try to cancel and hack again, I still got failure from result.
