The Starr Legacy

Yes, this is a legacy challenge. It’s not my first, but it’s the first that I’m going to post on this site. I think the name’s a bit generic, would’ve done something more, but I couldn’t think of anything that would be all that special. Anyway, I’m just going to lay down some rules that I either altered or added, and I hope you don’t disagree with them, because I plan on keeping this legacy for a while.

Rules:

•The family will move every three generations. No more, no less. The last generation may be moved out, but that's it.
•I will use cheats, but only for the benefit of the storyline. I don’t want a potential heir/heiress dying when they’re important to future events.
•I have a few mods, but none that would be considered cheating, just simple ones like Overwatch and Story Progression.
•The heirs must be regular sims. No werewolves, vampires, witches, or similar.

Other than that, I’ll stick to the normal rules. Some might be added as the need arises, but don’t expect many to come about during the first few generations. I might go beyond ten generations. Not by much, but just a warning.

And this is the founder:

Name: Katrina Starr
Traits:Snob, Socially Awkward, Genius, Mean-Spirited, Nurturing
Sign: Gemini
Favorites: Indie, Spaghetti, Gray
LTR: Scientific Specialist

Let's get this started.

Chapter One: Introduction
Chapter Two: A Long Way to Paradise
Chapter Three: Zombies, Llamas, and Katrina's New Job
Chapter Four: Back in the Game
Chapter Five: Forget Today
Chapter Six: Something Lost Yet Still Gained

                                                                                   There's a family tree now!
                                                                                      Follow the Starrs

The Starr Legacy: Introduction
« Reply #1 on: February 21, 2016, 12:41:39 AM »

A person only has this kind of house once, and that's usually because they are the founder of a legacy. Starting in a fairly basic neighborhood with less than a hundred simoleons is a great way to start it off, and things aren't looking all that bad, aside from the fact that Katrina is seriously unprepared for anything besides reading, which appears to be her strong suit as she is just swimming in wishes to read books. I don't remember one of her traits having to do with books, if she's going to get a running start in this, she's going to have to learn a few things.
And so goes the rest of our money, from some simoleons to nothing in just a few moments. Katrina doesn't seem to be complaining, however, and books seem better than actually getting the material for hands-on learning, which is out of the question money-wise. Actually reading the books is another thing, and so I settled Katrina down at the park for a quiet midday study session.

Yoohoo, Katrina? There'’s a guy over there.

"Not in the mood, Watcher, I'’m reading.” she whispered, not wanting to attract any attention that she hadn't called for. It was her first day in Sunset Valley, and being known as the person who talked to air wasn't in her plans.

Rude. But really, I'm serious.

“Okay, so what’'s he look like, then?” she said, raising her head slightly. She really wasn’'t in the mood for this kind of thing, especially when she had just barely gotten settled in to her new home.

Glad to see you're showing interest. He looks single and is undoubtedly rich. Your kinda guy, I think.

"That'’s not my kind of guy, it’s yours.” she replied, irked that she had been classified as that type of woman by the person who was supposed to be her guide. So much for first impressions.

Aw, I'm hurt. Just get over there and bust a move.

"Fine, fine. I’m going.” Katrina said finally, reluctantly placing her book down nearby as to pick it up later.

"So, what’s cooking, good looking?” she said, giving an awkward smile in hopes of starting a conversation. As much as she was unwilling to go for the first guy that walked on to the lot, she did want to appear nice. Well, nice in the respect that she didn't scare off the first person she'd have graced with her presence.

You just had to use that pick-up line, didn't you?

“No thanks.” flashing a ring. He had meant to say that he was married, but it didn't look that way to Katrina, who could only stare as he walked away, obviously peeved and the guy's attitude didn't do much to help.

"Blunt, isn't he?" she mumbled under her breath after a few awkward minutes dragged past. The man had long gone, and so Katrina had nothing to do but reflect on the situation.

Well, he was married…

"So? It'’s not as if that can’t be fixed!”

Okay, sure, just go with that. In the meantime, you up for more reading?

"Fine. Not that I like wasting time at the park, but I don't have much better to do."

Katrina read for a few more hours, managing to get a skill level in logic before another guy showed up, some paparazzi that managed to get lost on his way to the next big thing.

Pst. Katrina.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. Wish you'’d of told me the real reason we were going to the park.”

It'’s necessary, okay? You'’re jobless with only a few hundred simoleons in the bank. We don'’t really have a choice in the matter.

"That's your opinion." Katrina seethed, but made to talk to the unknown guy anyway.

"Well, hello there. I'’m single, who are you?” Katrina said, sidling up next to the man.

Another cheesy pick-up line. Jeez, Katrina, you got anything else up there?.

“Not in the mood, Watcher," she berated under her breath. She was bad enough at these kinds of things, she didn't need someone else telling her that.

The man, a redhead with a very distinct facial structure, looked surprised to see that someone had made an effort to talk to him. However, he did not reply.

Oh, look, now you’re scaring him off. Just great. I knew you weren't cut out for this.

"Oh, shut it!" she whispered harshly, but did not let her features waver from her forced smile.

"What?" was the man's sudden reply to the words that weren't meant for him.

“Katrina sighed, looking back towards him to do what she expected to soon become commonplace for her, "Nothing. Nothing at all."

You should probably leave this one alone.

"You're probably right.” she replied, trying to keep her voice down.

“The man continued to stare at her, confused, and Katrina soon made to escape.

"Goodbye!" she said, waving, seemingly grateful to leave.

Author's Note: Remember that little tidbit about The Watcher? Yeah, you might've seen that in other stories. I'm only using it because I like the idea, and I hope that no one minds.

Katrina had ended up staying at the park far longer than she had intended, scoping out the area and reading up on her future career choice. BY the time she had finished, it was late into the evening, and with nothing to do, Katrina settled on picking flowers.

What's up with the flowers?

"I like them, so? Stay out of my business." she said irritably, but stopped what she was doing anyway.

Don't bite the hand that feeds. Have you ever heard of that saying?

“Yeah, but I doubt it has any relevance."

Any potential in those guys you met with today? Some of them looked pretty taken with you.

"Even if there was, I don't want you to set me up with the first person that looks eligible. Let me decide for myself."

I won't tell you I haven't heard this before, but I'll leave you be for now.

“I'll take what I can get.”

In the meantime, we need some money to last the week. You got any ideas?

“A few, yeah.”

This has to be the worst idea I've ever heard.

“Take what you can get, Watcher." Katrina dismissed before ducking back into the trash bin.

Don't feed me that junk. What if someone sees you?

“I can handle it. Not many people are up at this time of night, y’know.”

Sure, but be prepared to take a shower at the end of this. A job wouldn't be too bad, either.

“I’ll get on it tomorrow, promise.”

You better not just be telling me this to keep me off your back.

Garden, anyone?

"I didn't come all this way just to be a farmer, did I?" Katrina groaned, but didn't protest the idea.

Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. Only time will tell.

"Ugh. Fine. Guess I can’t get away from it. But do you mind telling me where we’re going to get the plants?"

Well, I imagine a trip to the grocer’s wouldn’t be too out of the way.

“I’ve got the idea."

And so, after a quick trip to the grocery store, Katrina got to work on her garden.

You alright over there?

“Peachy.”

Trust me, you’ll be thanking me when you see how well this garden’s going to pay off.

Author's Note: Okay, so I realize this stories not the best, but it's the first one I've written, more of a trial run, really. I promise it'll pick up once Katrina gets involved in a romance, but can someone please comment or something? It'd be nice to hear a response once in a while.

Your story is good, but it would be easier to keep track of if instead of making a new thread for every chapter you could just reply to yourself or whoever has posted last so it's all in one place. Keep it up though, I just love having new stories to read.

Thanks for commenting! Also, thanks for the advice. I'm kinda new here, and I have yet to grasp exactly how this site works. You'd never have guessed, right? Again, thanks, and I'll be sure to continue the story.

The Starr Legacy-Zombies, Llama, And Katrina's New Job
« Reply #6 on: February 24, 2016, 04:56:16 AM »
Before you start reading, know that this is just a fun chapter I wrote in my off-time. I would've left it out entirely, but Katrina got a job, so I decided to put it in.

Katrina hasn’t had the best day. That much should be obvious. After her ordeal, I had wanted to treat her to something nice. A little pick-me-up to get her going. I sent her to the park, even got her some free food, too. However, I don't think it agreed with her. Doesn’t mean she can’t still enjoy her weekend, right?

See? She's happy!

But even zombies have to sleep sometime, so I soon directed her to park bench.

Which she was vacated from by a hotdog eating stand.

Maybe another day.

So Katrina stumbled home, mind fuzzy from lack of sleep. Today had been awful, tomorrow would probably be worse. So why not invite some random guy over to see if you had a match? I know, I know, bad idea. Nothing else to do, though, so why not?

She was met with this. However, one must not judge by appearances, and she decided to give him a shot.

That's what you get for trying to get along with a llama, Katrina. Those things are impossible.

Maybe you should focus on getting a job.

“You knew this wouldn't work out, didn't you?” said Katrina irritably.

Maybe, maybe not. Just hightail it over to the science lab. Let’s start working on that big dream of yours, eh?

“You aren't my mother, jeez.”

And so Katrina applied for a job at the science lab, and was extremely happy with the results.

"I knew I'd get the job. They can't refuse me!" she said, showing off a proud smile.

For once, I can't disagree with you. You deserved it.

“Aye, aye, captain.”

Can you fit some reading into your busy schedule, Miss Scientific Specialist?

“Had to start on'em sooner or later.”

Sorry for that. It was mostly useless babble. Then again, if you like useless babble, I'm full of it.

I'm going to be posting a lot of chapters, most of which I've already written on my Wordpress and just have yet to write here. So, yeah, expect about six more chapters on here within the span of 24 hours.

It was much too early when Katrina woke from her sleep. True, she had gone to bed earlier than usual, but it was still a bother to have to wake up before the sun even started to appear over the horizon. The garden, as always, needed tending, and, well, what can I say? I couldn't resist.

“It’s bigger than my house.” Katrina scoffed.

I know, right? You’ll see soon, gardens are pretty useful.

“You know what else is useful? A bed.”

But beds don’t make you money! Now get a move on, your ride to work’s here.

“Don't rush me."

It’s amazing how the right lighting can make even this car look good.

Even at work, Katrina still knows how to meet new people. Despite being a total flop at socialization, people seemed oddly attracted to her. Though I knew she didn't like it, it did wonders for getting to know others. She met the majority of those at her work place without a hitch, and even managed to snag a hold of someone Katrina actually liked, Boyd Wainwright.

Would you look at that? Love isn't dead yet!

“Yeah, but you will be when I'm done with you. He seems nice, is all.”

Sure, honey. Just don't do anything I wouldn't do.

"Ugh."

"Um, well, hello."

Smooth, Katrina. Real smooth. Where'd all that spunk go from before?

Okay, so this chapter was kind of short, but I promise I'll have an extra long one soon enough. Though, it doesn't really matter, since I'm putting these chapters out so fast.

So, I upgraded Katrina’s house. Nice, eh? Notice how Katrina's phased into the shower.

As it turns out, Katrina had been invited to a party, and, without my knowing, went to it in only a swimsuit.

“Would you stop? I’m a grown woman, and besides, this is a pool party! Can't I do anything without your permission?”

Uh, no. Where'd you get that idea? How about this, I let you go for a while and you get some time for yourself?

Or garden. Whatever floats your boat.

More house upgrades!

About a day after the party (a huge flop, by the way,) Katrina got a promotion. I can't say I wasn't expecting it, but, well, look at the girl! She's gardening every chance she gets, and I don't see how that could have a negative impact. Of course, I had my eye on bigger fish, such as the oh-so-elusive Boyd Wainwright. It wasn't that Katrina was shy, but she didn't exactly have a knack for this sort of thing. Or anything involving people, really. I swear, she'd be a recluse if I didn't make her go outside.

She didn't have much problem with the first part. Boyd was nice, and knew a bit about promotions. He was fairly well up there on the food chain, and who knows? Maybe he could help her with that. However, she didn't seem to like it much when Boyd got a little too close.

He's just patting your arm, hon.

"Shh...."

The two chatted like good friends, which they were at this point. Katrina, with her poorly hidden bragging and conversation skills, and Boyd, with his equally as awkward speech and talk of computers, made quite a pair. It was kind of cute, I suppose, but this wasn't going anywhere soon. She got a bit closer, started edging in on personal topics (though, trust me, she wasn't very good at it. Boyd just didn't have much talent for reading people). She was just making a bit of progress when-

"Boyd? I'm home." The sound of a door clicking shut and a female voice announcing her arrival wasn't welcome, and Katrina could put two and two together. Either that woman was the housekeeper, or Boyd was married. Seeing as how Boyd wasn't all that wealthy, it was probably the latter. Katrina had suspected it- how could she not? But she'd still been hoping it wasn't true. She wasn't all that keen on being a homewrecker, but now that she had him, she didn't want to let Boyd go. I personally didn't understand it, but it was obvious that the two had some kind of feelings for each other. Besides, I wasn't about to object.

A simple question was all it took, and they were heading towards home together.

Okay, so that's it for the flavorless chapters and boring characters! It's after this chapter that the real drama starts!

The Starr Legacy-Forget Today
« Reply #12 on: February 24, 2016, 07:18:59 AM »

The house after I was done renovating it with the money I got from Boyd. We're down to $47 simoleons.

The walk home with Boyd was quiet. Not an uncomfortable quiet, persay, but it was enough to put Katrina on edge. The crisp night air nipped at her bare shoulders, and she was tempted to huddle up against Boyd to get warm. She didn't, though. She doubted Boyd would take as anything other than a friendly gesture- he was like that- but Katrina was uncomfortable with the idea. She hadn't really thought much about what would happen after Boyd had moved in, just that he needed to. She still wasn't at ease with stealing him from his wife, although she was too far to back out now.

"Traline?" I pretended not to notice that she had used my name. Fake as it is, it was the first time she had ever called me by it. I couldn't help but feel my spirits lift, and as much as she needed me to be there, it brought a sense of trust. That was new. Through all my years, no one had called me by my name, whatever it happened to be at the time. I was always just the Watcher. I expected no less from Katrina, but, well, here we are. It was nice, at the very least.

Not a word, dear. I'm here for you.

"Yeah..." her voice trailed off at that point, and she escaped into her thoughts once again.

The walk home was strangely comforting, but I wouldn't let myself settle into the silence just yet.

They arrived soon afterwards, Boyd seemingly fine and Katrina feeling withdrawn and silent. Boyd didn't look all that happy with his surroundings. He had seen Katrina's house only once before, and though this was an improvement, it certainly wasn't very homey. There was no wallpaper, and the air was as cold as it was outside, if not worse. He sucked in a breath uneasily. He didn't know what he had been expecting to find, but it wasn't this. Though it was unrealistic, he might've expected...something. This place was barren and empty, completely dark with little else to see.
It took him a bit, but he eventually took notice of the discomfort of his friend. Her thoughts showed on her face, and as much as he knew, he didn't know what could've caused this. He wasn't stupid, far from it, but Katrina's behavior was confusing. Why would she be acting like this just after he had moved in? It didn't seem like Katrina. It wasn't as if Boyd had known her for that long, but from what he had seen of her, she a pretty okay kind of person, almost...sweet, maybe? Boyd felt a blush go to his cheeks involuntarily, but quickly shook his head. He couldn't deal with that now. His friend was still staring into the distance, and he could swear it was as if she was disappearing.

"Katrina? What's the matter?" he said, stepping closer to her so he could perhaps see what was troubling her. He didn't have many friends, and most of those that he did have were just trying to get higher in their career through him. To have one, and to have such a, um, sweet friend was completely new, and despite the state of the home around him...maybe he could get used to it here. First things first, however, and Katrina was actually really worrying him. It wasn't natural for a person to just sit there, silent and unblinking. Creepy, almost, but that wasn't about to stop him.
He grabbed her wrist. Not hard, but enough to jar her out of the state she was in. He didn't have time to think before she pulled him closed to her.

Katrina was tired. Of many things, yes. She had a garden, a half-built house, and few else. She was generally unknown to the neighborhood, still barely a resident at all. There was little opportunity here, and besides Landgraab Industries, there was little promise here. Sure, she could survive here, but what good was that? She could easily leave to a better place, a thriving place. Maybe one with more plants. However, Katrina was Katrina, and she was very determined. To do what, I don't know. She's never told me. But she did tell me one thing. Not with words, or phrases, but with actions and the meaningful glances that she cast Boyd when he wasn't looking. She loved Boyd. They had only known each other for a week, and it was hasty to be sure, but Katrina had already formed an attachment that wouldn't be destroyed anytime soon.
At least, that's what I'm going with.

What happened next was inevitable.

Er, I'd like some replies on my latest chapter. Was I a bit too dramatic or something? People say I have a problem with being overdramatic. I kinda just wanted her to get in a relationship already and make it work at the same time, seeing as how she'll be an adult soon.
