Chapter 10

Life was good. Friends visited, Vin came by most days. Tales were spun and jokes were told.

One night, not very long after, a very strange noise woke me up.

I was so pleased to see Perry again.

We hugged, just overwhelmed to be together again.

I instantly asked her if she could stay and not go back to wherever she had been, not really thinking ahead or considering consequences.

Something magical began to happen.

Perry looked amazing! I wasn't exactly sure about what was occurring but it was incredible.

As soon as her feet touched the ground she grabbed me and kissed me.

I suddenly realized what we were doing and recoiled away from her embrace.

No! I was horrified at how I'd forgotten myself and been caught up in the moment.

I tried to explain to Perry that since she'd gone I'd had to find a way to move on, to keep living... living without her. I told her about Kacey. It was awkward.

It was a relief to slip under the covers. A chance to have some space and time to think about what had just happened.

The next morning I told Kacey about the unbelievable night. She understood and said the it was perfectly normal under the circumstances. After all, anyone would have been overjoyed to see their loved one back. I remember holding Kacey close and thinking how lucky I was. I noticed Perry standing in the corner.

We went into the hallway to talk. I guess we had some boundaries to out in place. She wasn't really in the right frame of mind to talk...

I was more surprised than anything else really at her slapping me. I feel badly for Perry as I can see she still feels as though we are married. The whole situation was very difficult.

Perry ran off, well... floated through the wall and gave herself a pep talk in the mirror, trying to calm down. I took that as a good sign as before her death she probably would have laughed in delight at my discomfort.

Chapter 11

Kacey and I headed out, over to my family home. I thought that maybe Perry could do with some time out, to adjust and familiarize herself with the house and to be honest I didn't fancy being slapped again.

I left mum and Kacey chatting away in the kitchen and went looking for Vin.

He was pretty incredulous about Perry coming back and was full of questions.

He seemed to think it was a really good thing which took me back a little. I'd half expected him to slap my forehead for not thinking the whole situation through.

Until he started laughing about how I now had two women in my house and how I was a sucker for punishment and all those other 'hen-pecked husband' jokes. Ugh. Not  particularly amusing from where I was sitting.

I headed out to see dad. I really needed him. It was so difficult.

On a whim I took a quick look inside Gran's mausoleum. Thinking back, she'd had quite a few spouses too. I wondered if it was some sort of family thing... I couldn't quite put my finger on the source of my unease...

There was nothing out of place, nothing unusual. Just this vague sense of something important that I couldn't remember.

I went back inside and asked mum about Gran. She couldn't really tell me anything just that back in those days accidents were more likely because work situations were more dangerous.

That made a lot of sense and the more I thought about all our family tragedies, as I fixed some faulty plumbing for mum, the more I realized I was just being paranoid.

I took Kacey for a walk down to my favorite part of the river. It was peaceful sitting there in the sunshine, comfortable with each other's silence.

It wasn't long before we both gave in to the lure of the water.

Some time later I headed off for a quick run, leaving Kasey blissfully fishing, hoping to land 'the big one' with every next cast.

I came back energized and asked Kasey on a date.

We both agreed we'd been away from home for long enough so agreed to a romantic night in.

Kasey was my best friend and my soulmate. A combination that doesn't come along often and I was aware of just how lucky I was to have her in my life.

We headed outside to sit in the moonlight.

Everything was perfect, the company, the soft moonlight, the romantic mood... The ring was burning a hole in my pocket and I couldn't wait to ask Kasey....

I knew what was coming, time seemed to slow down and go in slow motion. Behind me I heard Kasey gasp...

This time I was angry. So was Perry.

I sucked it up, determined not to let Perry ruin the moment. I took a deep calming breath and asked Kasey if she would marry me.

With no hesitation she squealed and said yes. I was ecstatic.

I knew without a doubt that Kasey and I would never let anyone come between us. We were partners for life.

Unfortunately, being practical I headed inside to break the news to Perry leaving Kasey to her customary night time swim alone.

Chapter 12

Officer Fischer: Back to the board eh?
Detective Parker: Yeah. Do you believe in the Supernatural Officer Fischer?
Officer Fischer: Sure, there's more out there than we know, you know.

Parker: Hmm, I wonder....
Officer Fischer: You should check out the old log-in computer. That still has some of the old files on the segregated hard drive. Be careful though as I haven't got round to backing them up yet. It's on my 'to-do' list.
Parker: What's on there that would be useful?
Officer Fischer: Just those old 'X-Files' that the cold case guys couldn't crack. Makes for some hair raising reading I can tell you.
Parker: Hmm....

Parker: Jings, Fischer's right, this stuff is crazy.... wait a minute... that's something on the Moody's....

**CRASH**
Parker: What the blazes?!
Officer Durham: <flinging the door wide open> Those pig headed perps... they are doing my HEAD IN!!! *Rant rave* <Stomps off slamming open every door between here and the Chiefs office.>

Parker: Oh for crying out loud! The hard drives fried!

Parker: How the hang am I supposed to access those files now?
Front desk Officer: I can hear your temper boilin' Detective... deep breaths before you blow a gasket!

Parker: My life! *Deep breaths*

Parker: Please let this fix it, please let this fix it...

Parker: This isn't fixing it... *Grinds teeth*

Parker: Dog nab it! The things completely dead! All those files, gone.

Parker: Oh gawd.... This whole case is starting to drive me nuts. *Frustration overload*

Chapter 13

The next morning I had another chat to Perry. I'm absolutely set on keeping our friendship alive...errr. I needed her to realize that we were still friends and that although I was in love with Kacey I still loved her deeply, as a friend. I think she is beginning to understand.

I sorted out the bin and cleaned up the rubbish. This was becoming a regular chore.

As was fixing the plumbing.

Then Kacey and I hit the gym. It felt really good to put in some extra effort. Good stress reliever.

Vin checked in with me. The gym trainer kept pushing me right to the very limit. Vin just laughed at my claims of pain and told me to suck it up. Easy for him to say when all he needs to do is swim a few laps of the pool to keep fit.

I suggested to Kacey that we head out for a massage. Half selfishly as my muscles were screaming but I also wanted to pamper my girl.

We opted for a hot Stone Massage each. Pure unadulterated bliss.

It was probably the combination of the hard out work out and the soothing massage but afterwards we both felt like our bones had melted.

We headed home for a much called for nap.

My sore muscles woke me up sometime later. I hit the bath ignoring the broken plumbing, gross as it was. I lay there half blissing out at the hot water, half grossing out at the spewing toilet. Seemed like an illustration of my life I thought as I lay there. Can't have the good without the bad.

Just as I got out the bath I spotted Perry dashing towards the fishing spot sporting one of my pumpkins! I remember shaking my head and wondering what on earth was she doing? I guess it was a ghostly thing and had to remind myself that some things were inexplicable.

Later, Kacey explained to me that Perry had pretty much stalked her around the fishing spots, probably wanting to annoy her but because the pumpkin was admitting a focused aura her presence had actually helped Kacey score some really good fish. I had to laugh at that. I think Kacey has Perry sussed out pretty well. Bodes for a good future together as a somewhat, unusual family dynamic.

Ooo! That's what a sim ghost wearing a pumpkin does? Neat! I have been wanting to try that out but don't have any playable ghosts at the moment. Neat! Great story, too. I love the bath with the broken toilet shot as a a metaphor for his life.

Chapter 14

We put aside a whole day for each other, with Kacey's help I was ahead of my fishing quota and could afford to take the day off.

Spent the day swimming and chatting, just generally relaxing and enjoying each other's company.

Kacey declared a race, five times around the pool, loser cooks lunch.

I pretended not to know what we were going to do that afternoon. In reality I had it all planned out.

I told Kacey of a little spot high up at the back of the park that I wanted to show her.

As we sat there, looking down on the vista I knew the moment had come.

As I took Kaceys hands my heart began to race. I was so excited to be asking her to marry me.

I told her how much she meant to me, how beautiful she was and how my heart sang when we were together.

She told me how without me she was only half a person and how much she needed me and wanted to be with me and that only old age would ever separate us.

As I slipped on her wedding ring the setting sun caught the diamond and set it on fire. We both caught our breath and with tears of joy in our eyes stared at each other like we could see into the very depths of each others soul.

Back home I wanted to bake a special cake for dessert.

Kasey wanted to run and have a few quick casts in the spot where she had seen a few angelfish jumping last night. She asked me if that would be ok. I remember replying with surprise, of course it would be ok. Just be careful not to trip over in the dark! It hit me then that since being with Kasey I hadn't felt jealous or angry. She had calmed my inner demons!

I mused about that as I finished preparing the cake. The wind of fortune had finally decided to bless me.

I was so exhausted that I gave up waiting for Kasey. I headed for bed utterly content with my life.

Sometime later Kasey woke me up, too excited to wait until morning to share her fishing tales. I loved watching her talk when she was like this.

She'd caught this strange little seed that neither of us had ever seen before. I agreed we would plant it together, but in the morning! I was still exhausted. Kasey gave me a quick kiss and promised to join me as soon as she'd showered.

@Ferretmania yeah, lol... I'm having to grant a lot of whims so as to have enough points for the necessary Potion Of Youth as Soul Mate glitched out and won't actually register them as Soul Mates despite both relationship bars being filled. Kacey gets whim after whim when she's out fishing... so off she went... on her wedding night.. lol  :P

Lool..sounds like something I would do..if I ever got married that is..all though I would probably not go fishing, but go sit by my computer and play sims or do some crocheting while watching tv.

Ouch not fun when the game decides to pull a glitch on you :/

Chapter 15

The next morning Kacey was awake before me. I half watched her swimming about as I got in my boxing practice for the day.

The first sign she was in trouble was a little bit of splashing. I thought that seemed like pretty strange behaviour from Kacey so I stopped what I was doing.

In the few short seconds it took me to sprint over there she had already slipped under.

Oh No...no... I couldn't lose Kacey. I couldn't bear to live without her.

This had to be a dream, a nightmare of gigantic proportions. I pinched myself and then slapped my face trying to wake myself up.

Grim appeared.

I tried to beg him not to take her but I couldn't speak for uncontrollable sobbing.

I thought for a second he was resurrecting her. A small seed of hope was planted.

Only to be crushed underfoot as the realization that Kacey had been taken from me forever began to sink in.

I didn't understand what had happened. I asked Grim for advice. He said that she must have taken in a mouthful of water and drowned trying to cough it back up. 'But it happened in seconds,' I cried. Grim just nodded and told me not to take it personally. I don't even know what that means.

I crawled into bed and stayed there most of the day.

The next morning I felt even worse. There was no point in me even breathing if I didn't have Kacey beside me.

The gripping pain in my chest was real. My heart really was breaking apart.

I remember that I couldn't even think what to do next. I stood in the bedroom for ages trying to figure out what it was that I normally did. What normal people did with their day. I couldn't think of anything.

I remembered that I had been carving pumpkins, until I then realized that they had all been for Kacey.

And now she would never see them.

Even Perry was too sad to garden. She just stood sighing and weeping. Stuck in a perpetual cycle of sadness.

I found my way to the only place I could think of going.

I told mum about Kacey as my voice broke and I lost the last thread of self control.

Mum grabbed me and held on. Eventually I calmed down enough to talk.

I asked mum straight, were we cursed? Because I couldn't understand how Kacey had died, or Perry really.

She sighed heavily and told me that she had often felt the same way and that had mourned the loss of her 9 spouses deeply too. She didn't know if we were cursed but she said that it certainly felt like it at times.

Later Vin basically babysat me while he watched me eat. Each mouthful threatened to choke me but I did feel slightly better for it. And then he said something that gave me my hope back. He thought that if Perry could come back then maybe Kacey could too.

Chapter 16

Parker: Look Chief unless I can get something more substantial I'm going to have to rule these first two deaths as Accidentals.
Chief: Is that what your guts tellin you?
Parker: Nope.

Chief: I want you to ask someone some questions.
Parker:K

Chief: You need to go ask the first deceased spouse about the drowning.
Parker: Eh? ?

Parker: You want me to go interview a ghost that might not even exist? O...Kaaayyy then.

Parker: What's today's date?
Chief: October the 6th.
Parker: K, so it's not April Fools then.
Chief: Look Detective an unusual case demands unusual tactics wouldn't you agree?

Parker: Anything else 'unusual' you want me to do, like fly to the moon or something?
Chief: *Yelling* Get your rear end out on the streets man and don't come back to me unless you've got some real evidence that will make a difference!!!

Parker: Yes Sir!

Officer Thorpe: Got both barrels in there I hear. *Snicker*
Parker: Yeah *wry grimace* Might have pushed him a bit too far... yeah..

Parker: *Thinking* If anyone finds out I'm interviewing ghosts I'll have no cred left* <Sweats>

Detective Parker: *Quietly* Hello is that err... Mz Perry McCarty?
Perry: Yes.
Detective Parker: I'm Detective Parker and I'm wondering if you could come down to the Police Station tonight to answer a few questions?
Detective Perry: Of course. I could come right now....
Parker: Oh no... umm... 7 O'Clock tonight would be better.

Parker: The clue must be right in front of my nose and I can't see it! Ugh. What is it about these old crime scene photos that I'm missing? Parker: Hmmm, the urn's right there where everyone was... that places everyone at the scene in the 'right' places... *Sigh*

Some hours later...

Detective Parker: Thanks for coming in.
Perry: Where is everyone else?
Detective Parker: Oh it's just the night staff here now and they're upstairs on a break. So... Could you please start by having a good long look at these crime scene photos that were taken at the time of Mz Kacey Simpkins death please?

Perry: Oh I remember when the house was like this. It's all changed so much now though.

Detective Parker: Take a good close look please, especially the pool photograph.
Perry: Everything looks just as I remembered it. Poor Kasey, it's so sad... of course Kurt demolished the pool soon after this. He said he couldn't even stand the sight of it anymore. He left the fence though, although it does look a bit different here.

Detective Parker: Right, well I'm sorry in advance if you find this upsetting but I need to know if you actually saw Kacey drowning?

Perry: Yes I happened to be brining a drink out to Kurt as he was working out in the sun and so I saw everything. I saw Kacey making some very strange splashes and then saw Kurt race over and then... and then... Kacey just slipped under.

Perry: Kurt didn't even have time to grab her hand... she just slipped away and the look on her face. *Sob* She was so desperate and staring right at Kurt.
Detective Parker: Oh! *Gulp* That's terrible.

Detective Parker: I have to ask this.... did you see *pause* anyone push Kacey into the pool or back into the pool as though she had been trying to get out? *Thinking* <Well if any funny business was going on between jealous spouses this will be the time some fake anger will show> *Crosses his fingers*

Perry: *Sobbing* Oh no... NO Detective Parker, nothing like that. Poor Kacey...

Perry: I don't think I can talk about this much more now, it's too upsetting.
Detective Parker: That's ok. I'm sorry to have made you remember all this again Perry. Let me walk you out.

Detective Parker: Sorry for making you use the back entrance. just if anyone saw me talking to you they would think I'd lost the plot, no offense.
Perry: It's ok. Sort of. I'm glad I could help anyway.

Parker: Hmmm. Thats IT!!! I can't believe I didn't notice before... the fence! it doesn't surround the pool. My gosh! Maybe it really was another accident!
