Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen

Goal
You might say this challenge is unrewarding...literally — no rewards can be purchased. Bad things will happen — in fact, misfortunes are exactly the things that will boost your score. So, good luck to your sorry Sims.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create one Young Adult.
  • No adding to the household.
  • No moving.
  • No purchasing any Satisfaction rewards.
  • Intentionally killing any Sim is not allowed.
  • You are allowed to use the Buydebug cheat for the sole purpose of purchasing a satellite to prevent abductions.
  • You are allowed to add one Maxis-made spa venue to Willow Creek, Oasis Spring, Magnolia Promenade, or Newcrest.  Choose between these four: Perfect Balance Spa, Center of Center Massage, Aham Ashram Yoga Studio, or Luxe Health Club.  Choose wisely which spa venue you want to add, no changing after you start your game.
  • This challenge ends when your Sim turns Elder.

Scoring

Scoring is a little more involved than most events, but plug everything into Lena's spreadsheet and you'll be golden.

Skill — After your Sim unlocks a skill (level 1) for every additional skill level your Sim achieves: 1 pt.

Asp — For every Aspiration Milestone your Sim achieves: 2 pts.

Job — For every job promotion your Sim achieves: 3 pts.
Promotion to a level in a career can only be counted once in that career.

SM — This is your Stats Multiplier. Everyone starts with a 1.00 multiplier and can add to it depending on Misfortunes which are nicely tracked in the Stats section of the Simology tab. Anything in the Misfortunes section adds 2% (.02) to your multiplier.

Total — Add together Skill, Asp, and Job. Then multiply that by SM.

Example: This event's scoring is a little more involved than usual, but as always Lena has come through and made a spreadsheet to help everyone out. Thank you, Lena. So, your Sim turns Elder and you pause your game. At that point you have achieved 20 skill levels (not counting the initial skill unlock at level 1). You have also attained 12 Aspiration milestones, and received 14 job promotions. Next, you open up your Stats panel and note a total of 20 Misfortunes.

20 Skill levels X 1 pt = 20
12 Aspiration Milestones X 2 pts = 24
14 Job promotions X 3 pts = 42

SM (Misfortunes): 20 X .02 = .40
Final SM = 1.00 + .40 = 1.40

Total = (20+ 24 + 42) X 1.40 = 120.4 (drop the decimal when posting)

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, LenaLJ, Trip, and MarianT) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

What exactly qualifies as a misfortune?  ??? What I mean by that, is it something that gives your Sim one of the qualifying emotions or does it have to be more specific, like a botched opportunity at work, or something like that?

If you look in the Stats section of your Simology tab (where your sim's traits are), you'll see one section for Misfortunes (bladder failure, passing out, getting singed, etc.), and one for emotions. All the emotions are covered, but you'll just take the numbers for the ones listed.

Oh, I didn't even know that existed (The Misfortunes section that is) as I never bother to check out a Sim's stats, thanks for that. :)

So if something bad happens to my Sim & it doesn't show up in the Misfortunes section of the Simology tab then it doesn't count right? I'm guessing the game has to recognize it as a Misfortune for it to count, am I correct?

Yes, we have to go by what's in the stats. The misfortunes should be straightforward; for emotions, the negative emotion usually has to be the dominant one to register. For example, if your sim has a +2 Inspired emotion and a +1 Sad, the Inspired emotion will be the dominant one.

Any object or article of clothing (e.g., hat) that gives an emotional moodlet is banned.

If the emotional aura is disabled, can we use these objects?

I am still not sure if i come in, so afraid to go back to the regular speed.
I will give a try i think at least.

I am going to say "no", but let's hear it from the team.

Let's just keep it simple and say no to all emotional aura objects - then we do not have to qualify in the rules that disabling an aura is okay.

ClayMask PM'd the team with a suggested rewording to the rules covering what objects should be banned - so I updated that section. Thank you, ClayMask.

The Uncomfortable emotion no longer qualifies to add to your multiplier:

SM — This is your Stats Multiplier. Everyone starts with a 1.00 multiplier and can add to it depending on Misfortunes as well as negative emotions — both of which are nicely tracked in the Stats section of the Simology tab. Anything in the Misfortunes section adds 2% (.02) to your multiplier. In the Emotions section the following emotions add 1% (.01) to your multiplier: Tense, Sad, Embarrassed, Dazed, Angry, and Bored.

I have lost count on the number of inquiries the team has received in the last five days concerning emotions in this event. Putting things in place to avoid exploits is making the rules to complicated. So, emotions are no longer a scoring component at all. I want to single out team member Marian and say thank you for the original idea for the negative emotions. I think we all loved it and it fit with the theme, but perhaps this will be easier now - I hope. Hehe.
