Time passes way to fast in these games!
« on: August 10, 2015, 03:24:00 PM »
It's 7:00AM. I get a message saying that the school bus will arrive in an hour.  My kid's hunger bar is halfway empty, so I decide that an hour is enough time to have a quick bowl of cereal.

So, I pause the game (to make sure I can do all the input without any time passing), click on the refrigerator, select "have quick meal," and then "cereal."  My kid, who just got finished brushing his teeth, walks across the house to the kitchen, grabs a bowl of cereal, walks over to the table, takes a seat, and then ... the bus starts honking its horn. My kid has to set the cereal aside and go to school hungry!

This is because, even though time passes in the Sims at a rate of 1 minute per second, and a variety of activities (including eating food, changing diapers, changing clothes, and bathing) are sped up to compensate, walking is NOT sped up! People still walk around the house at the same pace they would if time in the game went by in real time.

So, it takes an hour for my kid to just make his way from the bathroom, down the hall, and into the kitchen.

Even if I have Mom make waffles, and have them ready by the time the kid gets his teeth brushed, that still only saves the kid about six minutes seconds.  Not enough time to actually have breakfast.

When the game says you have an hour until the school bus gets here, I'd expect I should have some time to do some more of my morning routine!

It's like I have to wake up at 3:00AM just to have enough time to shower, brush my teeth, and eat some breakfast! I should be able to do all of that stuff in an hour if I hurry!

I feel it! Are you open to using mods? Twallan's Relativity mod allows you to change the speed of the game. I can't go back to playing without it. I'm obsessed.  ;D

I recommend that mod! I have to get my sims up at five to get them showered and fed before school. It takes them a whole sim hour to walk outside to catch the bus.

It s a beautiful but dangerous idea in my own point of view, because it is easy to change the speed of the game i guess but it is not considering how the game was build around a specific speed. It s quite a crucial point in making a game or an expert in game programing should tell us i am wrong.

I use a similar one on TS4(cant play without it) but i avoided it for TS3 (way more easy to play, less to watch)

If some strange things start happening I will have a first guess from where it could come.

Since the game designers quite clearly had no idea what they were doing - hence Sims 3 became probably THE most heavily modded game I've ever played - I have no qualms about digging up whatever I have to to make it work PROPERLY.

Because taking an hour to walk down the stairs to the kitchen is patently ridiculous.  Without Relativity and all its kith and kin, I would never have played this game AT ALL.

As it is, it requires so much modding just to be playable, that I am unlikely to ever play it again.  Very few of those mods are still being maintained.  Known bugs in NRAAS have not been fixed in over a year (not that I blame them, its not like any of them, including Twallan, ever got paid).  I'm told the AwesomeMod won't even load any more.  I, too, like the game, am no longer NEARLY as young as I used to be.  I thought I might fire this up and take another shot - but it is just too much work to fix it.  I don't have the energy.  Not that that should stop any one else.  If only I had the energy, I would gladly mod it up and play some more.

Modded - almost endless playability
Vanilla - totally worthless.

Sims 4 is just right out altogether.  It is crippled even compared to Sims 2.  Makes me sad to see the death of a franchise.

I wouldn't say a non modded game is worthless, I never used mods until the end. Sure some bugs annoyed me like the fish disappearing bug, or the spouse not moving in bug. But they where fixed, by EA. Sure mods do help on the playability of the game. The Sims 3 engine was the first time EA had ever done an open world, The Sims 1 & 2 had Sims stuck on the house lot. A lot more resources go into an open world, as everything is running all at once. I still love The Sims 3, and always will, there is just something magical about it. Just like the first two in the series. I even like The Sims 4, sure it's lacking toddlers, which I don't care for to much. But it has it's charms, just as well.
We are of peace, always but this is war.
We are of peace, always.
We'll help build a resistance. We have to fight.

When all you've ever loved has been stolen from you, sometimes all you have left is revenge.
For the truly wronged, satisfaction can be found in one of two places,  absolute forgiveness or mortal vindication. This is not a story about forgiveness. When deception cuts this deep, someone has to pay.
